Thanks for Watching!!!
Of course you're in it to make a living. Most of us wish we could live our hobbies like you do. That's why we watch your content.
Thank you!
When I hear a 7300 with the 318 it reminds me of the neighbor growing up he had one with a cherry bomb glass pack for a stack I can still remember that sound of him revving it up to this day!
The model 535 became the 7300. When this combine first came out it was a honey of a machine as it walked circles around the Massey Ferguson 300 of the day plus the sample was the best with very little loss out the back. Cockshutt had the best patent of the day in thrashing mechanism plus the best and easiest adjustment to accommodate different crops and conditions. This was such a great machine it just made sense for White to pick it to be be relabeled as the 7300 for the small farmer who had 50 to 100 acres of crop to harvest in the 1970s and 1980s. Brandford Ontario’s pinnacle of success was the White 9700 Axial Flow combine which came out in 1979 in conjunction with the 8900 in 1979. The two were the largest combines in the world in 1979 ( one conventional and one rotary). John Deere was tripping over their own shoe laces to buy the 9700 technology whenever White was filing chapter eleven however the Ontario government (who had provided a $300 million loan guarantee to White to keep them afloat) said no to John Deere but did approve the Massey (Varity Corp.) purchase of the White 9700 combine. There wasn’t any combine capacity measuring equipment available at the time to properly measure the capability of the 9700. It came out with a 26 foot grain head at the time it could of handled a 35 foot header platform as was determine later when they had the proper testing facilities to determine that. That 9700 was away ahead of its time. Their are a number of them still running today
Thank you for keeping Oliver going 😊
Thank you for watching!
Even our new heads get covered in old motor oil when they are put away in the shed...makes the first spin alot easier.
I'm new to your channel. You're very prolific so I'm watching everything from new to older.
Awesome!! Welcome aboard!
My father in law bought a 7600 in the early 80’s 4 row wide corn head and 13’ bean head. The thing would eat corn as fast as you could feed it. That old Chrysler just a barking. I know we replaced every belt & bearing on that thing over the years. We kept the drive wheels and tires off it. And it went to the scrap yard unfortunately.
Yeah, a lot of the combines met that fate just because they’re so hard to store. As soon as they were obsolete people got rid of them.
What the heck kinda fine feathered freinds,,, pterodactyls or something or Eagles wow , almost tree limbs lol thanks BigAl California
I remember dad n grandpa working on them when I was a kid. 545 s still have them stuck in the lean to shed . Gramps bought a gas 6600 deere combine was cheap because it was gas was a good combine dad then bought a 6600 diesel we had it forever they were wonderful equipment air and heat is nice lol also after dad passed grandpa and I bought a 7720 had it 8 years then a 9510 and now a 9570 it's like sitting in a office yes iam spoiled but spend alot of time in there farming has changed so much from riding in the wagon n dad picking ear corn to running a space ship lol . Wish ya was closer have a bunch of parts belts ect . From turkey creek farms be safe n thankful
First, if you would have spoken in rooster and sheep, the combine would have started faster.
Second, it's my luck to plug up the combine before even starting it. Better check the straw walker crank. Don't want to break it.
I had to patch my grain pan too. Welded I think 1/8 flat stock staggered for a patch.
That 318 still purrs. Excellent MOPAR product. 👍👍
It’s a sweet runner for sure! Thanks Tom !
That's a cool little combine
Thanks!
I think that’s the battery from that pretty red Massey you worked on the other day 😂😂. Great video Ross ,see ya tomorrow .
Thanks Ross great video! So glad you saved it from the scrap yard!
Thanks Scott!
I use thread tape also. If you put it on right it won't cause problems
That’s what I think. Used correctly it’s great.
Sounds like you’re making the correct decision hiring your harvest work. Don’t worry about what everyone wants to see.
Glad to hear that beast run!
Thanks!
We used to clean out using an air compressor and air gun with a long piece of brake tube on the end.
I'm with you. You made headway and it ran and drove. You will get it back in shape so you can play with it. Might be next year before you get to play, but that gives you plenty of time. I don't think some people understand that some of your machinery is more like toys rather than how you make your living. It's nice that you try to use some of it for something. It helps keep it in running condition..and it is fun to play with, lol. Keep up the good work and I'll see you in the next one.
drain the gas tank pour in a little more gas to rinse it out then put the gas back in with funnel with a screen.
Nice video Ross
Thanks Larry!
Demolition derby for this one m lol they have those back in that country right, thanks BigAl California
Nice video, Ross. Like you say it's just a plaything. I sure am glad you saved it. It did sound good. Guess you'll never run out of projects. Be safe.
twin sister to Cockshutt 5542-which was originally a Cockshutt 431-431 had a flathead six-these later moels had 318 Chrysler V8s
The V-8 is a sweet machine I’ll tell ya!!
Ross It should be fantastic if Hooters would sponsor your channel by providing Hooter girls to assist you work on things in your videos,
Oh cool back to the fun combine... are you gonna get back at it
Hopefully you can find the time to work on it a little along and if not this harvest season then mabe the next one we can watch it work in the feild. Whats wrong with the other two?
For your belts try the V belt guys they are much cheaper. Foreign made but a 4th the price.
I’ll have to check that out! Thanks!
I think those old combines are fun to play with. You are so lucky to rescue another rare treasure. I had a JD 55 EB that wound up in a combine demo- derby. Wish I still had it.
great video hope have better luck with another belt😊
Well Ross, we all know combines are a never ending work in progress. But the biggest detriment to them is sitting out side in the weather. I too love them and have saved a few oldsters from the scrap. Did find a few pull types and an old MF 82 and a MM model S self propelled from the early 50s. The model 18 Oliver is like the one the family had back in the day. I always felt that the 18 was likely one of the best pull types on the market at the time. These are in the dry and I have used them in the past, except for the old MM. It is in a similar condition to your 7300, needs a bunch of love. Like you, my problem is getting time to do all the things I want and still make a living!
Like how you combine this with other vids , thanks for sharing 👍💨💨
Thanks Darren!
Ouch you hit me in the head with that stick,,, lol it’s just ridiculous lol 😂
I totally understand your situation Ross ! 100 plus bearings, 20 belts ( kinda) and a whole lot of time just to make it happen. Got one sitting in the yard with hydraulic issues ( gets extremely hot ) waiting on tech manual. Plus the new variety produce more than the ole combine want to handle.
With all the big combines that are in the field today it is amazing that crops were gathered and people were fed with combines of that size for a lot of years. Didn't know anyone put a small V8 engine in those or any other combine. Usually 4 or 6 cylinder inlines were used. I really enjoy your videos but I have to say you are one of the most long suffering folks I think I have ever seen. Seems it is always something that keeps you down but you keep a good attitude and always get it done.
Your bad luck explains where our Black Cat goes when it is outside. It likes Purina cat food so send it back home well fed. Getting combines ready to go for the harvest was always a profitable thing for the dealers. Sorry that you do not get to run that unit with the header row spacing not matching the rows. The 7300 was definitely a 4 row capable combine. Keep up the entertaining videos.
Ross, the combined seems to be a money pit, maybe the next time you can get it running 🤣🤣🤣 thanks Michael
A fithwheel hook for semi-trucks would be handy for pulling out your straw debris
Hey now I got my old pull type going you need to get her going
Take the plugs out of it and screwed scored some oil down in it and let it come oil and transmission fluid and let it sit for a little while and if I don’t work come back with PB blaster and some yeah whatever else and let it sit for another few days or few weeks and then come back and get in
Combines can be a real adventure owing to the number of shafts, bearings, belts, chains, etc. Maybe with a little(lot) of parts swapping several can become one. Amazing how these critters transform from useable harvesting machines to salvage yard relics that become donor machines. Some aren't very old due to fire damage, etc.
I've spent several hours in a 525 and 545 and I really enjoyed running the Oliver combines. I'll stay tuned and hopefully get to see you play with it some in the future but im pleased to see you saved it from the scrapper
Thanks Johnny!
To stop animals go to a hardware store get 1/4 inhardware cloth fasten it well over any holes good luck
O
Thanks Michael!
Quite entertaining! Progress made, but yeah quite a ways to get it field ready. Great running engine!
Thanks Jeff!
My dad hired a neighbor to help harvest years ago and he had a 5555 Oliver. I was only 9 years old but it seemed huge compared to dad's 55JD
Cool! I’d like to find one of those. I never saw one around here.
Thanks for putting the effort in for us to see. Love seeing the old iron being worked on.
How do you like that knife blade style battery disconnect you have installed on at least 1 of your tractors? Is it still working and is it on a tractor you use often? They look super convenient but price just seems so cheap to have any quality, at least the ones I see on the jungle store
Hey Ross, I noticed below the gas tank, the ball bearing with the flanges on the inside of the combine. Now I know where MF got that idea from! I think the engineers met every morning for breakfast and dresm up the idea of the day to make a farmer/mechanics day harder! That day they decided to put the flanges on the inside so when the most simple, and easiest bearing on the combine to get to, is a 2 day job to replace! 😢
🤣 thanks Jim!
I just stuck with my corn picker. It's easy to keep in working order. I could never get anyone to come and custom harvest soybeans so I don't grow them. Just enough corn to fill a couple of wire cribs.
That’s is very true. The combines are a playing toy. I got a 7600. That is about the only combine or one of that size that Oliver made that pay to use.
Man I was hopeful do you have any vids of the other ones going through corn
I haven’t given up hope yet. I’m hoping to film some in the next week or so
Our 7300 Oliver combine always had racoon crap on top of the engine.
Great video. A combine was built to keep a mechanic in business.
There’s certainly a lot of stuff on it that’s for sure.
thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Hi Thanks for the updates. Combines are like boats it don't matter how old they are they are all still money pits if you own 1 or more, new ones really aren't any better either with wear and breakdowns . I can only imagine what the Oliver grain pans like to swap after the one in our 750 Massey rotted out and the frame broke in it this harvest. That wasn't any fun at all, and we had a hard time finding a used one that was better than the one we had. in the end we found one that wasn't broke in half and had less holes in and patched it. It seems like there are loads of the Masseys still working around Canada but we're loosing all our local used parts yards . so we either buy another one if it's any better, or change brands and head to a 77 or 8820 Deere with way better availability locally , but that's gonna hurt as we like the Massey too much. Take care.
Little work running good maybe needs bit lubraction I'm getting trouble my cars too wrong clutch bell so annoying
What years were the7300 combines produced?
The pull type version is even rarer 545
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a pull type version of the 500 series combines! That would be interesting to see!!
Combines are cool, but they're one-function machines. It's not like you're going to be using it to haul, till, plow snow, etc.
And harvest time doesn't give a guy much time to fool around with repairs. You're usually in a time crunch to get the crops in before it rains, snows, etc. Ain't nobody got time for that. 😯
🤣 thanks Jack!
Now I'm going to start pestering you again about the 6rn corn planter 🤣
I see another project on the trailer, what's up with the stove?
🤣🤣🤣 I did move it the other day
Ratchet set an impact??
Might help
thoe ire for the fuel pum routed that ay i beyoud dun it i tuoid.
You said it!
They left me some of that straw stuff. Now mixed with hydraulic leak! Yeah!! Party! 🤬
Ross combine sadness is a special kind of sadness
Osha approved scaffolding.
🤣🤣🤣
If it my combine I would flush out tanks run garden hose water clean tank out
Then I’d never get the water out knowing my luck 🤣
👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks!!
👍👍👍
Thanks Paul!
There i only one other thing other than bird thatr make meon equipmnt that i turkey they hit all over everything.
Yup
I have faith in you Ross. Youll get her going... youll have to stop working on Orange tractors...
It’s going to need fresh gas and a battery! 😂
Fear not, it’ll work 🤣
Glad you're. in farming to 'make money', I've just been approaching it as a tax deductible hobby!
Ross you did the wiring all wrong. You should have just taken a self tapper and screwed it to the fuel tank. Fuel pump needs grounded to fuel tank duh.
🤣🤣🤣
I’ll will mail you a couple 6 foot black snakes throw them in there they will take care of you problems
I’ll probably forget that they’re fake and about kill myself falling off the ladder 🤣🤣😭
Ross please be careful when removing bird nests and droppings with hands and forced air. Hismoplasmosis a bird droppings lung disease can happen. Had a good friend who caught it by not wearing gloves or a mask. Don't want to send you a message in the hospital.
Thanks Larry!
Birdnest delete lol
Why don't you just put a original pump on it
They just don’t last on the combine, and they’re harder to get to with where the engine is located.
it needs to be inside it needs to be used harvest a whole FEILD JUST TO MAKE IT INTERESTING VIDEO
Comment 😂😂
Afro patch....same as white trash patch?
🤣🤣🤣
I've never heard someone complain complain complain so much
I don’t know about that but maybe you should tape yourself and listen to it.
Ross your a brain child.
