gymnastics is one of the best sports to watch live in person. its a shame that there's almost no audience here. When we watch from the TV, we have this sense of normality. People flying around, jumping off of buildings and nobody will get hurt. In person, the reality sinks in, and every jump or flip in mid air feels like your heart skips a beat.
You don't know how hard it actually is until you start swinging around from bar to bar or trying to do skills on the beam. They are all really amazing gymnasts no matter what. They put so many hours of dedication and training into the sport.
We are so used to seeing flawless routines we are a bit spoiled and forget just how hard these moves are. One girl making several mistakes on beam that was her brain she had them but her brain disagreed.
I’m a level eight gymnast and I’ve fallen on all four events before (vault, beam, bars, floor) So I know upsetting it is but as long as you know you did your best than it’s ok! And these gymnast are just so amazing.
Yeah, I’m only level 2 (I’m super close to level 3) but I still fall a lot, when ever I fall I usually start laughing at my self and it usually doesn’t bring me down which I’m happy about
@@EmojiFan I’m glad falling doesn’t bring you down!! Hope you make it to level 3! Btw going from level 2 to level 3 is kind of a challenge because it’s a big transition I’ll say!
@@kb20294 Yeah! And tysm! @@StrawberryNinjaNibbles I never even thought about that but your right. Maybe they need to make that a rule that safety mats cannot be white for bars and beam.
Gawd that fall by Gadirova(announcers didn't say if it was Jessica or Jennifer but from the board I believe it's Jessica.) at 5:37 looked the most painful. Bravo ladies for your full efforts as usual. Still beautiful.
If you grab the beam, you get the same point deduction as hopping/falling off. I'd rather get off, get my head screwed on straight, and nail the rest of the routine. Struggling to barely stay on, then semi bag the rest of the routine isn't great either.
It’s not always worth the struggle. You get a full point off for a fall, but if you exceed a full point in extra steps, arm swings, form breaks, then you should have taken the fall. So gymnasts have to decide whether they think they can get under a point in staying on the beam.
They're still beautiful to watch. They only fall because they're doing difficult stuff. I'm still in awe that anyone would turn head over heels on a beam. If they should happen to lose their balance at the end, big deal.
Filipa Martin was obviously affected by the rule of not catching the half turn with crossed arms, now she has to turn during the flight and It's much more difficult.
It is so exasperating for these athletes to have all the years of practice come to a fall. A lot easier to understand Simone Biles’ issues at the Olympics.

i think the reason why most of them fall twice is because once you fall you’ll get upset with yourself and falling is the only thing you can concentrate on causing you to fall again
Are these girls being over worked/trained? I feel like this is a lot of falls from multiple gymnasts. Rest and recovery days are important for athletes.
Not only that. But most of them are very young and it is there first big competition. So nerves, and performing on a podium is always different. And the lighting is very different from what they are used to in the gym. And especially on beam, I guess it is the mount. This year the new mount is very popular and a lot of gymnasts seem to struggle with it on the podium, and once you are out of your rhythm right at the beginning of the routine it is hard to find back. So a lot of factors adding up. But no matter what, I couldn't do what they are doing. So incredible women:)
@@KaMaJuSo yh I totally agree with you being up on that podium makes them very nervous and all the people watching puts a huge amount of pressure on them to do well.
