      Ive got an 08 Rav 4, you think this will help with the leaking caused by the poor piston assembly? I’ve had it since April and about every 700-1000 miles I’m getting the oil light flashing, no outside leaks and can’t tell that it’s leaking from the exhaust.

      @@WoLFSkYBLuE69 does it send a code? I’m not a mechanic or anything but I do my own work as much as possible. If it does send one I’ll go have it fixed. Otherwise I’m staring down buying a new motor lol
      Never mind I’m tripping because it is actually eating oil fast, when the light comes on there’s usually no oil on the dipstick at all, it’s to the point I’m only changing the filter every 3 “changes”

    • @NATESINTERACTIVEAUTO
      @NATESINTERACTIVEAUTO  2 года назад +2

      If it were the piston rings then the oil would burn and be noticed from the exhaust. I was going to ask if you checked the oil level on the dipstick and if its really low oil level as you said then you need to see if the light will go off after you fill it. As for burning oil check the pcv valve to make sure it's working properly because this could be the cause. Myself I check the pcv and clean it periodically. Also if you need the engine to last longer then you may need to clean the spark plugs often depending on how much you drive with cleaner and a old toothbrush would do well. Your exhaust valves will start to have a great deal of carbon buildup over time if burning a good deal of oil.

I replaced one of the 6 quarts of oil with 2 containers of Bars rear main seal stop leak. We'll see what happens. It's been about two weeks now and the leak has stopped, well see how long it last.

I poured about a quart in pulled the dip stick and it was gummed up with the stuff on it, I thought it baked the oil on the dip stick, I cleaned it off and it felt like rubber. I just hope it doesn’t destroy my engine, going to pop the valve cover off and see if it’s still pumping.

    Long story short........My 2012 Chevy sonic w 138,500 miles started leaking just under from where I put my oil filter. It would slowly drip down to my exhaust and stink and smoke up badly. After trying Bars stop oil and seal leak with my oil change, I can say I noticed a 50 % less burn after a week or so. After about a month I forgot I had even had a leak. I have since changed my oil again and added another bottle. NO MORE OIL BURNING ISSUES FOR ME

    I have never had much success with any type of stop leak. Power steering leaks for me have become worse. Cooling systems have become clogged. With modern engines with variable valve timing, they usually require a 0W something oil. Personally, I would not add anything thicker than the recommended weight oil. You could easily rob Peter to pay Paul. It would be much cheaper to slide a drip pan under the car and add oil when necessary than to replace the cam phasers/actuators or whatever the manufacturer calls them. On top of that, if the product doesn’t completely stop the leak, you still have a spot on your driveway so what’s the point? Do you actually know anyone who has collected any money for damages from a company that makes this type of product? I may be somewhat of a cynic, but I am leery of the long term effects. Sometimes the cure can be worse than the disease. I appreciate you, Nate! I’m just not a fan of additives, particularly stop leak products.

    Stop leak does not work good (or even not at all) with hyper modern rubber seals, the brown and blue ones are Viton or Neoprene seals...they are resistent. Stop seal works only with BUNA (synthetical black rubber seals = NBR) On vintage cars with rubber gaskets most stop leak additives work pretty well.

      Not really. The radiator stop leaks do that, by collecting in the spot where the coolant is leaking out and forming a plug. But the oil stop leaks actually chemically soften and swell the seals so they seal again. The oil products don't "clog" or "plug" things. And no, I don't work for any seal company or any repair company, nor do I know this guy. But I have used bar's products to stop a leaking head gasket, and worked perfectly in less than an hour. Coolant stopped getting in the oil, stopped blowing antifreeze vapor out the tailpipe, and ran the engine another 50,000 miles (and sold the truck), still not leaking or showing any ill effects.
