    4:18 smith was a total badass and gets little credit in popular culture as far as i know besides mentioning in films like true grit, and i did not know he was from florida. thank you for the video as always

      My mom went to Kirby-Smith Elementary School in Gainesville back in the late 1940s.
      It is now an administration building for the Alachua County School District. Several years ago the Kirby-Smith name was erased from the building

    People always seem to forget that Florida was a confederate state. Thank you for honoring them.

      Florida feed the Confederacy, and never lost a battle in Florida.

      @@stubstoo6331yes they did. They were also essential for salt, and sugar production. David Yulee was one of the most important people in service to the Confederacy.

      @Thecompactrepublic yeah the family left southeast north Carolina, and came to west central Florida on the coast in 1862. The wife wants to move to many people here now.

      Those people have likely never read a book. i personally will not forget the florida brigade and their service to the cause

    Colonel Simkins comes to mind; a controversial figure due to his later klan activity,
    like Nathan B Forrest.
    Edit: i ahould add that he claimed to have loaded the cannon that fired the first shot at Fort Sumter, and was present at Appomattox.
