Somebody needs to step in. She needs a advocate. She’s sick.
Speaking as a hospice social worker, she should have one as well to advocate on her behalf.
See if they will step in for me as well, never got anything free.. ever..not even a free gift for my kid at Christmas.. had a heart attack a few weeks ago.. wonder what I can get ..maybe a slumlord will rent me her pretty house..blame hud.. that's who her deal was with.. I'm her age.. I was expected to work and when I retired to live by my means..

The one thing about this matter is that this woman has been paying her rent in a timely manner and she takes well care of the apartment. The landlord could have solved those problems itself, if it wanted to make that choice, itself.

It sad I have heard that hud is doing this to a lot of people if the house that the tenant live in fail inspection and the landlord want comply to fix those repairs hud stop playing the landlord which put the tenant in a bad situation because the landlord blames the tenant even though it's not the tenant fault.

To be honest, the only people who take a blood bath when it comes to HUD are those who think the goal is to make money by renting the property. When in fact, the money is made only when you SELL the property. I've seen more people lose it all because they raised the rent because the "market" supported it.
Wrong. There are plenty of slum lords involved with HUD. I myself have dealt with assuming lord who left a hole in my bathroom ceiling for 5 years. I finally figured out who to call to get it straight.

I know what this feels like, I was in Chemotherapy last year along with losing my job as a result of Covid 19 and my landlord evicted me during, the pandemic, with a moratorium and a declaration. I ended up in the streets with nowhere to go during chemotherapy. They are heartless really.

I just wanted to let the Sweet Mother know that she is not alone and that the people in the middle the ones responsible for distribution of the funds allocated by the government to help offset the costs incurred by the worldwide pandemic were responsible for many many people becoming homeless while they sat at home collecting paychecks for remote work that they were not doing!

We aren't OWED nothing in life! The landlord is probably still having to make payments to a bank on his property and pay taxes on it. Don't fault him/her when you don't know their side. During Covid people took advantage of landlords and quit paying rent and MANY LOST THEIR PROPERTIES!

It's not shame on HUD!! They do this to ensure slumlords are not getting go ernement money to not maintain livable housing. The LL can't evict her. That's why they don't tell her. It's between the LL & HUD.
The landlord doesn’t want to do the repairs. If he takes his house off HUD he can leave the house as is, and rent it out for more if he wants. HUD can’t make him keep his house on the program. She should call APS for help with this!
@@evettekelly3575 my outdoor faucet leaks when it is turned on. Plumbers are $110 an hour. I use a $5 bucket as a solution. I can’t blame the landlord for not wanting to deal the a bureaucracy that would force him to spend $200-$300 when a $5 bucket works. Eventually I’ll fix it but right now I don’t want to spend the money.

It's not their job to find housing for someone. She was probably given a list of properties that will accept vouchers, and she's choosing to stay. She said herself she doesn't want to move. Even though the unit is not habitable for Hud standards, she wants to stay.
She should sue the landlord. payments are only provided if the residence is up to date with repairs. They told the landlord they won't pay if can't make repairs. He's getting money from them every month he could've done anything. Lazy and cheap. Especially knowing her situation I hope the stress doesn't make her health worse. I pray she can stay where she is and live out her days 🙏🏼 💕
Unfortunately it will never happen. Lawyers can't ambulance chase. Likewise, I don't suspect that she's driving out to meet with one on her own.

The house must be up to code or HUD will stop payment. It is usually something minor that needs repair. The landlord is blessed to have a tenant that takes care of his property. What can we do to help this lady?

If the owner does not comply. Hud gets rid of them.
Hud guarantees the rent will be paid. But the owner has to comply with keeping the place up. the owner at one point was approved and now has to do the work needed to stay that way.
Owners also know this because it is hard to get on the list.
Betcha the guy wants to sell it in the inflated housing market right now.
@@dw3403 I know how subsidizing housing works the landlord agreed to yearly inspections and maintain the property and after this the Housing agency will never deal with him again but folks always think it's the tenant is the problem...
She can get a copy of the letter from HUD that would state the results of the inspection. Once she has that, she can contact the news crew again and see if people would like to help her with the repairs. Also, find out if the Landlord wants to increase the rent and did they submit the request for an increase to HUD. I understand where the Landlord is coming from, wanting her out (just because they do) and I understand where the tenant is coming from, sick in zero position to leave. Unfortunately, you being sick doesn't guarantee housing. It's a sad situation. This is why home ownership is so valuable.

I would like to offer some sort of support for this woman. The elderly cannot be forgotten. We need policies in place so this never happens to anyone else. HUD and our government need policies in place NOW.

I wouldn’t give a dime to go towards that landlord. She should be able to continue paying her portion of the rent and stay right there. I’m sure she’s being overcharged anyway.

because unless you are a homeowner and rent property do not judge. As a landlord sometimes the repairs are not necessary and just ridiculous. I don't have time to name some of them but it could be replacing something so idk it's energy efficient when that may require a full renovation. They have the same checklist that are used in apartment buildings which is ridiculous again. The way she has kept up with the house I would have advocated for her. what probably happens is landlord refused so they said oh well stop paying. But this is something he could have asked extension on etc.
If you can't afford the upkeep of a property then don't buy property.

Not necessarily. He just isn't keeping his part of the deal, namely making repairs. HUD won't support slumlords and the owner may just want to sell the property for whatever he can get. Even in this pandemic, housing costs have gone up. He could get a pretty penny for it from someone who wants to flip the property. In the meantime, this unfortunate woman is being treated like dirt!

It’s HUD! It’s another failed government program. Unfortunately as a landlord , I have experienced the same thing.. HUD will find some reason not to pay the landlord knowing that he will ask the tenant to move. It’s a corrupt system and this is how they keep their numbers down.
HUD does not care about these people. It’s very sad that she has gotten Caught up in this at this point in her life.
@@richardjernigan9165 this is true I have a relative going through the very same thing that relative house didn't pass inspection and hud stop paying the landlord and hud took along time to issue another voucher to look for another place to move to and because of that the landlord sent out a eviction notice because he wasn't getting paid it's sad because the tenant think they have a good tenant landlord relationship but unfortunately no it's about money.

I hope she sues the HUD because they have been so shady lately. I just bought a house through the FHA and nobody told me I did not have to have an inspection because the size of my house and the inspection report anybody with eyes can see what the inspector saw in the stuff that he was supposed to know he never did. But anyway the HUD is getting ridiculous because they’re not on the side of the people that are helping by any means and for them to stop paying like what’s the reason for that somebody needs to look into that nobody holds government agencies accountable but everybody gets the backlash from it

The landlord needs to be sued. Big time. The property went into an "abatement" status with Hud, bc the landlord didn't make the required repairs on the home. Hud stopped paying while the tenant continued to pay her portion. There definitely was a communication issue between hud & the tenant but this is the landlord's fault.

@@dcg590 you don't know that, the issue here has NOTHING to do with rent! The Landlord signed a contract with HUD agreeing to yearly inspections and maintaining the property
This is a typical HUD practice. How many HUD properties do you own? I had four HUD tenants, I am now down to two. I am not renewing the last two contracts when they come up for renewal because of craziness like this from HUD! They do this all the time when they want to get Tenants out of the HUD system. My heart goes out to this woman.

The poor are picked on as they are easy targets with little $ for legal recourse. Subsidies are wasted and lost to fraud long before they get to the poor. Many are veterans.

HUD is well known for doing this to tenants.The Housing Authority is Responsible for the hike in rents, there are so many employees in the Housing Authority that Own Property and rent to Section 8 and every time the amount on the Voucher goes up the landlords kick the tenants out to get the new amount and it is a conflict of interest these Housing Authority employees are NOT supposed to rent to Section 8 but they do and that's why there is so many people going homeless...

I wished I lived near her I would do everything in my power to make sure she's comfortable my dad died of cancer in 2004 I gave up my bedroom to him & my step mom I gave them breakfast in bed but I made him get out of bed for dinner😥 I'm so pissed right now please anyone who lives in her area reach out to her this is a damn shame! Bad enough we have too many empty homes we could put homeless people in & find jobs for the able body but now we as Americans are evicting f*****g cancer patients!!! Is money that important????? Shame on you may you burn in Hell!!!!

This is heartbreaking. I hope she is able to get the help she deserves.
She doesn't deserve this at all. She keeps up the home and surrounding place at top notch even in her condition. I mean stage 4 cancer? That's horrifyingly cruel that she's even having to be stressed with something like this at this time. I've seen stories similar but she's the only one that I felt truly bothered by. I hope HUD takes care of the situation pronto and I'm glad Fox 2 ST Louis put a spotlight on this.
This can happen to all of us. They want her out because they want more money for this house. This is a shame. She worked all of her life and paid her taxes and trusted that the Government would do what they promised by giving her affordable housing. We had better keep an eye on this because they are doing this to the elderly all over this country.

During the pandemic my daughter also lost her home due to a landlord refusing to fix a water leak. Water bill is now over $1300 and she lost her apartment and must pay the water bill. My daughter lives in a different part of the state and has been homeless, sleeping on couches and her car. I am finding there are other people in this same senseless state. We reside in NC
I'm in NC also if the water leak gets fixed she can submit the proof of repair to the water department and they will clear the balance. That's what happened to us.
Why she take the landlord to small claims court
It is all about money
The expense should be on the landlord IMHO. Not even sure the eviction is legal.
@@carayj do you really think if someone is homeless, living in a car, and struggling to survive that they have the privilege and peace of mind to file a suit in small claims court?

More then likely the repairs aren't major. Unfortunately, repairmen don't work for free. Everyone wants to be a landlord but don't know squat about how to repair anything. 🤣😂🤣
