    Probably the best all round guitarist alive. His playing is so clean yet never robotic or 'over played'. He never ceases to amaze me

    • @candicestevens2389
      @candicestevens2389 4 года назад

      You could very well be right about that,personally I think you could make a case for chris cain or Walter trout too. Dont forget warren haynes

    • @hulldanfan
      @hulldanfan 4 года назад

      I'm a huge walter trout fan and have seen him live many many times, but he is a straight up plectrum using blues player. In technical or musical terms, he's not within a million miles of Koch. Cain is a fine player and more versatile than Walter, but again, just not is the same league as Greg.

    • @christopherprim1973
      @christopherprim1973 3 года назад +1

      I think he is. Just found him a few months ago. He's only one of a few guitarists that have really wowed me in the last several years, Paul Gilbert and Tommy Emmanuel being the others. There are plenty of inventive, flashy players, but can they combine so many classic styles and diverse techniques and deliver a ton of tight grooves, while deftly quoting other guitar gods, as if he's some jazz age marvel? His discipline and tone control are impressive, plus he's a total showman, and funny as hell. Having a good time yourself really enhances a crowd's ability to.

    I had the pleasure of taking a couple private lessons from Greg and generally being around him on a regular basis when he was teaching at my college (sadly I was only going for an associate's degree so I didn't get to take his upper-level Music Interp classes), and I've figured out two things about him:
    1. The depth of his mastery of the guitar is practically a Library of Congress of chord voicings, licks, and techniques. I'd put not only his playing, but his musical brain, up against any other player out there.
    2. His crazy personality and sense of humor in just about every video of him isn't an act. He's legitimately like that at all times. 😂

    • @michaelheller8841

      He has so many styles that it would never get boring. That's a true master. The Wilwood vids make me laugh and when he plays I slow it down, What the hell was that he just did lol, Thank God for 1/2 speed on youtube, with his playing you need it .

    I re-discovered Greg during the pandemic. My band used to play the same area and I remember him from back in the day. Not as much hair as back then (either one of us) but I remember stealing so may chops from him by watching him live. I love the way he plays. His band the Koch, Marshall Trio plays live on RUclips every other Saturday night at 5pm CDT. I highly recommend tuning in. All three of them are masters. Also, check out "Greg Kock Outtakes" on youtube. His personality is as insane as his playing!
    Check out his bending techniques and the fact that he pretty much plugs straight into the amp. Very few pedals and effects.

He let me hold that red Telecaster he's playing in the video and it was light in weight, super light. His action was very low and already showing a lot of fret wear. But also in the class, Greg threw a lot of knowledge at us and let us tailor the class to what we wanted to learn from him. He'll blow your mind live!

    Greg is out of this world. One of my 3 favs on the Tele along with Danny Gatton & Roy Buchanan. Good stuff, Fil. BTW, if you haven't checked out Danny Gatton yet, there's a clip of him & his band playing Funky Mama on Austin City Limits that is a mind blower.

    Yep, Greg is another guitarist I wish I could play like. And he's funny as hell and entertaining to listen to. A truly unique and talented character.

    Awesome player. Reminds in this piece of Albert Lee.

    You found one i never heard of before it's like psychedelic chicken picking.he seems to be using some of his own take on some of Roy Buchanan's guitar tricks.

    Great job Fil. It's hard to take in all that Gregory Kochory, much less comment on the techniques. For the more human side of him, check out his blooper vids on the Wildwood Guitar site. He's a real corker.
