I may be in the minority, but I genuinely loved volume 7 and most of volume 8. Maybe it's because I never took the show too seriously or really didn't interact with the community in any way. Nothing wrong with different opinions, though. I get where you're coming from. I genuinely didn't like most anything from volume 9. All that being said, this was a great watch, and I think you did an amazing job with it!
I loved Volume 7, too. But Volume 8 is just 4 hours, 26 minutes and 39 seconds of watching the heroes trying to fix everything only for something to go wrong for the sake of drama and tension. The writers even nerfed them to do it. Worse, the villains had an insane amount of plot armor and were always one step ahead of the heroes. I'm all for villains winning on occasion but this is just dumb. Hell, Penny's death was forced and completely unnecessary. Throughout the Volume, she wanted to prove she was more than a machine and make her own choices even if it meant sacrificing herself. She even push people away. I hope at the end, she would finally realize that sacrificing herself will prove nothing but nope.
You're right there is Deserve a happy ending. Viz media Own the IP now It's more likely for continuation or Maybe a fresh start But continue the story for Volume 9 to Finish the story.
I will admit to still liking RWBY. I still think about it here and there. I collect the merch. But part of it, is more like a 'chore' I want to cross off my list. Like knowing the story was close to ending I'm like damn, I couldn't even see how it would end
I got a Torchwick figure for 5 bucks from the site's clearance sale. He was always my favorite. When my friend showed me the series my only thought was "Is that a Clockwork Orange guy?!"
Rwby literally inspired me to improve on my own action animated series i thought of when i was younger. I even named my main character Ruby after Ruby Rose. But i dropped it somewhere mid volume 7 since it felt like something was lacking. It's really depressing to see the thrilling action series about a combat school, that inspired me to make my own series, become this beautiful yet hollow animated series that strayed farther from its original concept. I still listen to the ost tho, because its genuinely one of the greatest ost ive heard (along with the Skullgirls ost)
It's unexpected that the best volume in the series is preceded by the worst volume in the series, like seriously how did they pull that off. Volume 8 was the first time the show had ever made pause the episode and physically walk away from pure cringe alone. Volume 9 was the first time the show had ever made lay down after an episode and go... damn, just from how heavy things got. It's so crazy how they're right next to each other in watch order.
Spontaneity was a pretty fun draw of the Beacon arc, but tbh that... isn't a sustainable form of storytelling. Eventually, they'd have to knuckle down and deal with the story points they'd set up (characters, concepts and stakes). Thankfully they did and *eventually* got their shit together to balance that with the OMG COOL stuff the series was known for.
You've summed up so many of my thoughts on the matter. Part of what 7 and 8 took from me is how some characters such as Ironwood seemed to lose sight of their actual essences to try and prove some kind of 'on-the-nose' point. Perhaps that was an 'easier' choice. But it could have been far deeper and more rewarding to see his warranted struggle between a cold pragmatism and warm compassion. I think back to Glinda's conversation with him back in the Beacon arc. But either way. As you said, there were too many things to really get into about those two seasons. 9 was like the breath of fresh air I'd been yearning for, and though I wish they had a few more episodes of build-up before it (perhaps not having the DC crossover would have allotted said episodes), Ruby's comeback was so incredibly hype and satisfying, and played out to, as you say, perhaps the top banger of the entire franchise's soundtrack. Again, thank you very much for this video!
...huh... this is a new one. Not minding Ironwood's arc and only finding it as _part_ of the problem amongst the rest of the arc being so dark and grim. Fascinating. Honestly, while I really don't agree with it being _bad,_ I fully get that point of view and respect it. And then actually liking Volume 9 after that.... neat. I can't believe I just pressed the Like button on a vid that just said V7 and 8 were awful but fuck it this was a good essay.
Rwby's revival is honestly hard for me to care about. I loved the series back in the day but as time went on it felt like it was getting worse and worse with each volume. I don't want to dislike rwby I wanted to see the series become one of the all time greats a show right up there with stuff like avatar being seen as something that broke the mold and become a sensation. But it kept fumbling the ball and it genuinely felt sad seeing something that held so much promise fall like it did. Am I glad the show is being revived of course I am but does it really matter? There's no doubt in my mind it's gonna end in like 2 volumes max and it's not like they can fix the shows massive issues in that short time frame. I'll always look back on the show fondly but at the end of the day, I'm not really optimistic about it's revival.
@@nightmarearcade2663 Viz Media bought the license (likely very cheap) and are just holding it, after Crunchyroll declined to renew. Viz is generally a licensing and distribution company from what I've read. Not a production company. RWBY is just another piece of content for thier catalog. Oddly, 3 months later and V1-9 are not even available yet for viewing. (Could be part of the deal in getting the license cheap. They can't distribute it.) Kerry is still looking for a production house to pick up RWBY. But RWBY's poor track record, and the fact that it would take several million dollars just to do V10 on the same level as the last volume makes that possibility.... unlikely.

I am currently working on a RWBY rewrite, perhaps one day I will publish the first chapter on AO3. If you wonder, it would shift to a sort of a horror dark fantasy while still maintaing some elements of fun and whimsy so that I don't crush your souls completely (and becomes, as the Tao teaches, there is a portion of light in the darkness, and a portion of darkness in the light). The name of the series should be "RWBY: Lullaby", and it should be based more on those fairy tale-esque elements of RWBY
WB bought RT a month after the volume 2 finale. Monty died three months after that. The show has suffered from his lack of direction and choreography ever since. (I think the Yang vs Adam fight while Blake caught her breath was the last example of his work in the show.) His wife was barred from production, Raven's attack on JNPR was axed, her talk with Yang pushed back, retconning the volume 2 after credits scene into a dream. The groundwork was laid to stretch out RT's new hit show for as long as it could, and the next two volumes were the result. I think the writers took the blame, but in retrospect, I wouldn't be surprised if WB's management was also at fault. From the failures of HR in RT, to financing films only to bin them for a tax break? They don't get the benefit of the doubt. As for RT itself... well, a bunch of white boys in Texas wouldn't know how to write racism; and while Monty may have directed, he was always more interested in the choreography than the writing... to the show's detriment, it seems. Weiss getting herself skewered to further Jaune's arc (never let a writer voice a character!) was the first time the show made me legit angry, but the fight on the tundra takes the cake. It is the stupidest thing in the entire show, and that includes the character assassination of Ironwood in the following volume. At this point, we can only hope VIZ will help them finish RWBY's story with more aplomb. I was under the impression that RWBY merch was overpriced junk. How's the hoodie?
IDK man, everyone says he didn't do much writing, but he always wanted to keep the show more character driven and at beacon for longer. Focusing on character interactions and expanding the lore and plot more slowly for at least a couple seasons. As much emphasis as he always put on these characters he created, its hard to believe he didn't have a big influence on their writing. Especially since I consider 1&2 to be peak and 3 to be pretty good though the cracks are already showing, it seems to me that the writing quality drained out at the exact same rate his influence did.
I have a question. Whasnt it said that like 100 years ago there was a big war, and it was after the war that the custom of naming babies after colours arose, to help them remember the joy of colour or something? Was that lore ever revistied, and what was that war about?
Honestly I think they just straight up dropped that idea immediately since there wasn't really that many characters that followed that naming scheme, I think there was a little over a dozen and that's it.
@@nightmarearcade2663 Almost every character barring a couple spoilerific exceptions are named to evoke a colour in some way... even if some are more of a stretch than others...
I really don't buy that. Not to discredit you but there's so many exceptions to the rule. Like you have, Nora, ironwood, Salem, Watts, Tock, Neon Katt, Sun, Adam, Sienna Khan, etc. So many characters go against this naming scheme and I'm willing to bet they just dropped it early on so they can name characters whatever they want without having to adhere to any naming gimmicks
Monty Oum wanted cool fights, so he started a show called RWBY. After his passing [during mid volume 3 production], the writers wanted to write a show called "Remnants". To show a world and short stories of characters / teams in it. I did not know about it in the past [when it was coming out], and though that Oum was just one of the developers, but it felt that something was lost and it wasn't the mood. Then a blow came on how they decided to treat a scene after credits of volume 3 as 'NOT a cannon anymore' - it was a scene of Yang and Raven meeting in the town and about to start talking, but they ignored it and later declared as not a cannon. Sorry, but that was a major blow. Second major blow [for me] was that show suddenly splitting and trying to cover everything, by becoming talk show instead of what we were 'promised' with volumes 1 and 2, lets also not forget about receiving plotholes filled with characters idiocy... Let's take the relic that is only to be taken out by a specific maiden power out of it secure vault and just hang it on a belt... Also let's make people there sudenly a villains, to fill the chapters with some content, except for talking and explaining... It was during haven arc I quit watching it. I really like the idea and beggining of RWBY, but later is just a badly written fan fiction of the show that got animated. This year I learned about some facts Rooster teeth [more like Rotten teeth] practices, writers not wanting to write RWBY, but remnants and even that the company was bought out and shutdown...
@@anaemiliaalmeida7238 Volume 9 is one of my favorite volumes, it felt like a return to form of just how creative and interesting rwby can be combined with the level of writing vol 7&8 wanted to have
@@ItsFayko I agree in one thing: it was creative! Other than that, the plot was a complete nonsense garbage: Ruby was the only sane one for realising the damage they cause in Atlas, while the rest of the team refuse to even acknowledge their own mistakes and still calling themselves Huntresses despite being incredibly selfish and hypocritical. But what really made sick was Ruby getting beat up after spewing facts, while the others, namely Yang, did nothing to help or supporting her. What was even the point of this volume anyway????
I agree, V8 nearly killed the show for me because its dark, depressing and mean-spirited tone until V9 and the DC crossovers saved it for me. Sure, they ain't perfect but they provide a glimmer of hope that they will win.
There 2 points I would like to add I think another reason why a lot of new RWBY contents post-Beacon keep return to it is because the Fall of Beacon happened too fast. Aside from Volume 3, which is about the Vytal Festival and the Fall of Beacon, and half of Volume 1 is about Initiation Day, there's not a lot of content from that era. There are many stories, relationships and 'normal' lives from that whole school year at Beacon that we didn't get to see. And so Volume 1-3 have a lot of gaps that can be filled with more. And about the fight between Qrow Tyrian and Clover, you can see Qrow was clearly tired and then he had to fight his friend. And when the MURDERER showed up, instead of helping Qrow fight Tyrian, his friend keep stopping and fighting him every time he tried to do so, Clover was only followed order here. Tyrian saw this and use it to manipulated Qrow, pretended to help him (note that Qrow never help Tyrian). Finally, Clover was weakened from the fight, it is then that Tyrian went for the kill. Qrow was not the one who ignored the murderer, it was Clover and he suffered the consequences of his action.
@@ItsFayko I don't think it's doable, but I'd like a retry from volume 3 or maybe even 2 with Sheena acting as Monty's voice in the production. I don't know how much of the crew would be on board and i don't think i could handle much recasting. Hell Sheena might not be a good stand in for Monty, but I'd like to give it a try since the decline in quality seems to directly coincide with the decline in Monty's influence.
Well, not a total reboot, just restarting from volume 4 Or maybe even the latter half of volume 3, if they dont want to follow the original path and actually fix a few things (adam's motivations for example)
I liked it, too! Sure, it ain't perfect. But it's better than V8 by a long shot especially with its hopeful ending. I have a few nitpicks about V9 such as unanswered questions, rushed plot and whatnot. But this Volume was postponed 2 or 3 times and had to undergo a handful of rewrites during production following the COVID-19 pandemic. So it's understandable why it turned out the way it did. It was a production nightmare. But I'm satisfied regardless as it saved the show for me. It's still has a depressing tone but at least it has an ending where everything turns out okay unlike V8.
@@FixTheWi-FiI thought V6 (at least the first half) was the best thing since the early 3 volumes. V9, marginally better than V8 and V7. That's not saying nuch. Imho
RWBY was great when it was about spectacle fighting, rather than story boarding. Monty Oum was the back bone of it considering all of his previous projects, and RWBY was simply a long term project for the stylized fighting that I wanted. But ever since his passing RWBY just doesn't ignite the same spark that I once had for it. Tl;Dr, too much plot, not enough spectacle fighting
Yes, too much plot, indeed. The lack of downtime can hurt a show. Sure, some people don't like filler because it can slow down the plot. But, sometimes, it's necessary to give the show more time to breathe and allow new viewers free time to catch up. It can help expand upon the lore and do more world building. Otherwise, it'll make the show's universe feel small.
We all have problems with Rwby but we still like it. By all the Problems It is a good ride. You like, I like it good to like Rwby. It may not be a perfect series but it's still good. Viz media Own the IP now It's more likely for continuation or Maybe a fresh start But continue the story for Volume 9 to Finish the story. It's more likely they will continue the story But with fresh writers.
I couldn't agree more. The show has inspired so much. It ain't perfect but it still has its moments. And in spite of its flaws, I think it would be unfair to end the series without a proper resolution. VIZ Media betting not louse this up because after so much, RWBY deserves a much more hopeful tone and satisfying ending that will make it all worth it.
However, I believe RWBY deserves redemption and in spite of all the bone headed things that RT had done over the years, I almost feel bad for them. Keyword "Almost"
I do like RWBY but I will admit there are parts of the series that are boring and not entertaining. But the one thing that really pissed me off was that I heard that Rooster Teeth added a fan ship that wasn't even good. I used to love Blake and Yang, now they are just shadow people that have lost their identity. I really hope that this ship gets removed in Volume 10 otherwise I will just keep cringing at that ship
This fandom is notorious for shipping, any two characters who have been on screen together will have fics writing about them kissing or banging (and sometimes being on screen even isn;'t requirement). If a pair occurs in the show, chances are there were already a dozen pieces of fanart about it bc someone thought "ok what if..." ...Wait you say you only "heard" they added a ship, and now you're saying "i used to love these characters until this ship." which is it? Were you watching it happen without paying attention or did you just offhandedly hear about it? In terms of Blake & Yang specifically, *if* that's the one you're referring to with the first bit, I reccomend viewing a pre-show livestream from Volume 1 that begins... interestingly...
I'm so glad someone liked that part lmao! I needed something eerie and if I used anymore silent hill ost i think pyramid head was gonna send me to court

Dude, my love for Roman Torchwick can never be understated
The little fairy tale in this video was so cute!
Thanks! That's one of my favorite parts of the video
The ost's quality is easily the least arguable thing in the franchise
This video put all the feelings I've had about RWBY into one, well thought out hour

0:49. Okay wait because Avatar is goated and it’s also the main inspiration ( honestly more like a skeleton than inspiration) for RWBY
But it doesn't replicate the anime vibe
@@ItsFaykobut that’s a good thing; it is its own day
@@Dave102693 Yeah I never said not being anime-esque was bad.
I'm so glad you liked it!

Great video while my feelings on volume 7 and 8 aren't as harsh i agree with the end sentiment, RWBY is flawed but i like it
The prodigal son returns!
And I'm sticking around!
...huh... this is a new one.
As far as I know, it has not been revived.
It is still sitting in limbo. Assuming Kerry is still trying to find an investor to start production.
From what I remember they did find an investor in the form of Viz media. It's just now a question of when and if they'll start production soon.
They can't distribute it.)
Kerry is still looking for a production house to pick up RWBY. But RWBY's poor track record, and the fact that it would take several million dollars just to do V10 on the same level as the last volume makes that possibility.... unlikely.
@@nightmarearcade2663 Viz is not a production house. Primarily Licensing and distribution as I understand it.
Kerry needed to put the IP somewhere when the contract ran out with CrunchyRoll and they refused to renew.
Vix probably got it real cheap. (Plus I think CRWBY worked with Viz in the distant past.) Viz gets a new piece of content to add to their catalog, Kerry gets to keep the IP alive while he continues to try and find someone or a production house willing to blow.... I mean sink the many millions of dollars it would take to produce V10 at the same level as recent volumes.
Except, RWBY is not even available on the Viz platform right now for viewing of V1-9. Three Months since Viz took the license!
Not sure how this works but I am guessing the acquisition of the license did not include permission to distribute in the contract. (Probably why Viz would have gotten it so cheap.)
So that leaves RWBY still in limbo as Kerry tries to find someone or an entity to fund production. Pretty much the same condition the show was in 7 months ago.

The hoodie is great tbh, paid full price for it and its held up really well
IDK man, everyone says he didn't do much writing, but he always wanted to keep the show more character driven and at beacon for longer.
Reads title: "Do i still like RWBY?"
I asks myself that question everyday.

Outstanding video, editing is top notch and your best yet. Keep it up dude
I have a question. Whasnt it said that like 100 years ago there was a big war, and it was after the war that the custom of naming babies after colours arose, to help them remember the joy of colour or something? Was that lore ever revistied, and what was that war about?
I don't believe so?
Honestly I think they just straight up dropped that idea immediately since there wasn't really that many characters that followed that naming scheme, I think there was a little over a dozen and that's it.
I wouldn't try to nail down lore in the show.
So much was retconned, tweaked, forgotten, or just plain igmored in later volumes.
THIS IS BIG
Here before it blows up
I Used to love RWBY but Volume 8 made me lose zero interest in the series.
Volume 8 is by far the hardest to get through tbh
@@ItsFayko Not as bad as Volume 9 though...
There 2 points I would like to add
I think another reason why a lot of new RWBY contents post-Beacon keep return to it is because the Fall of Beacon happened too fast.
I really hope once RWBY ends, they can make a reboot.
I'd rather they not tbh, I'd hate to lose anything Monty did in a remake
@@ItsFayko I don't think it's doable, but I'd like a retry from volume 3 or maybe even 2 with Sheena acting as Monty's voice in the production. I don't know how much of the crew would be on board and i don't think i could handle much recasting. Hell Sheena might not be a good stand in for Monty, but I'd like to give it a try since the decline in quality seems to directly coincide with the decline in Monty's influence.
Well, not a total reboot, just restarting from volume 4
Or maybe even the latter half of volume 3, if they dont want to follow the original path and actually fix a few things (adam's motivations for example)

I think you're the only one who liked Volume 9. Good for you tho!
I keep going back and forth as to whether I think 6 or 9 is my favourite volume of the show.
Imho
welp i still like rwby.
Same here
RWBY was great when it was about spectacle fighting, rather than story boarding.
This.
I like the idea of rwby ?!!

Rooster Teeth got their karma for all of the shitty things they did. For someone who believes in redemption, I have no sympathy for any of them.
However, I believe RWBY deserves redemption and in spite of all the bone headed things that RT had done over the years, I almost feel bad for them. Keyword "Almost"
Hey did you guys know rooster teeth is closed?
I do like RWBY but I will admit there are parts of the series that are boring and not entertaining. But the one thing that really pissed me off was that I heard that Rooster Teeth added a fan ship that wasn't even good. I used to love Blake and Yang, now they are just shadow people that have lost their identity. I really hope that this ship gets removed in Volume 10 otherwise I will just keep cringing at that ship
This fandom is notorious for shipping, any two characters who have been on screen together will have fics writing about them kissing or banging (and sometimes being on screen even isn;'t requirement). If a pair occurs in the show, chances are there were already a dozen pieces of fanart about it bc someone thought "ok what if..."
...Wait you say you only "heard" they added a ship, and now you're saying "i used to love these characters until this ship." which is it? Were you watching it happen without paying attention or did you just offhandedly hear about it? In terms of Blake & Yang specifically, *if* that's the one you're referring to with the first bit, I reccomend viewing a pre-show livestream from Volume 1 that begins... interestingly...
