@@sacredgeometry Quite the opposite. The hereditary monarchy is a primitive insitution that has no place in the 21st century. It's a relic of the past. It's undemocratic, unfair and ridiculous. The British royal family is basically a bunch of glorified celebrities, except they are celebrities by the virtue of being born, not because they actually achieved anything like normal celbrities.
The idea that some people have a "higher status" than everyone else just because their parents are called "the King" and "the Queen" is absurd in today's world. Especially when you remember that the institution of monarchy is rooted in a dark past of imperialism, feudalism and religious fanaticism.
I'm pretty sure you don't need the royal family to attracts tourists. Turn the Buckingham Palace into a museum and I'm sure a lot of people will pay to see the throne room, the crown and all of this stuff.

The left do not seem to complain about that money being spent. Not only that they are actively opposing any moves by the government to stop it. It’s errant hypocrisy.
You moan about the cost of living crisis, the state of the NHS, lack of affordable housing, oversized classroom sizes, public services grinding to a halt. Yet you never once look and realise we are over populated due to mass immigration. You’re completely blind to the problem. The NHS and other public services are literally crumbling under the weight of a userbase it was never designed to cater for, we’ve run out of houses because again we are housing people a country our size was never designed to house..and we have to tear up more of our countryside to build more, our schools are finding it difficult to cope because there are more children here than our schools were built to educate.
Stop being daft and open your eyes. Or at least accept that while we are throwing all this money we haven’t got at a problem we needn’t have.. at least let’s keep some of it to help sustain our own culture and traditions once in a while.

The monarchy in the United Kingdom is an outdated institution that is no longer relevant or necessary in modern society. The role of the monarchy in government is largely ceremonial, with no real political power or influence. Despite this, the monarchy remains a highly expensive and divisive institution that perpetuates inequality and undermines democracy.
Firstly, the monarchy is a symbol of privilege and elitism. The royal family is born into a life of luxury and privilege, with no need to work for their position or wealth. This creates a stark contrast between the haves and the have-nots, perpetuating inequality and social injustice. Additionally, the monarchy perpetuates a hierarchical system that favors those who are born into wealth and power, rather than those who work hard and contribute to society.
Secondly, the monarchy is a drain on the public purse. The cost of maintaining the royal family, including their residences and security, is a significant burden on taxpayers. According to some estimates, the cost of the monarchy to taxpayers is over £300 million per year. This money could be better spent on improving public services, such as healthcare and education, that benefit all citizens.
Thirdly, the monarchy undermines democracy. While the monarchy does not have any real political power, its existence implies that some individuals are more important and deserving of respect than others. This goes against the principles of democracy, which hold that all citizens are equal and should be treated as such. Furthermore, the hereditary nature of the monarchy means that there is no meritocracy involved in selecting the head of state, which undermines the values of hard work and merit.
Finally, the monarchy is a remnant of the country's colonial past. The royal family has a history of association with the British Empire, which has been responsible for numerous atrocities and injustices around the world. By maintaining the monarchy, the UK is effectively endorsing this legacy and failing to acknowledge the harm that was done. This undermines the country's moral authority and its ability to be a force for good in the world.
In conclusion, the monarchy in the United Kingdom is an expensive, elitist, undemocratic, and divisive institution that has no place in modern society. The abolition of the monarchy would promote greater equality, save taxpayers' money, strengthen democracy, and send a powerful message about the country's values and priorities. It is time for the UK to join the majority of countries in the world that have already abolished the monarchy and embrace a more democratic and equal future.
And to those who state that the monarchy doens't cost anything and makes money for the UK:
The cost of the monarchy is actually quite significant. While it's true that the monarchy brings in some revenue from tourism and other sources, this is outweighed by the cost of maintaining the royal family and all of their associated expenses. According to some estimates, the cost of the monarchy to taxpayers is over £300 million per year, and this doesn't even include the cost of security or the indirect costs associated with the monarchy's impact on democracy and equality.
The argument that the monarchy brings in revenue ignores the fact that this money could be generated in other ways. If the UK were to abolish the monarchy and replace it with a more democratic and equal system, it's likely that this would actually attract more tourists and generate more revenue over the long term. Additionally, there are other ways to generate revenue that don't involve maintaining an expensive and undemocratic institution.
Even if the monarchy does bring in some revenue, this doesn't justify its existence. The monarchy is not just a financial issue - it's also a moral and political issue. By maintaining an undemocratic and elitist institution, the UK is sending a message that some individuals are more important and deserving of respect than others. This goes against the principles of equality and democracy, and it undermines the UK's ability to be a leader on these issues in the world.
So, while it's true that the monarchy in the UK brings in some revenue, this doesn't justify its existence. The cost of the monarchy is significant, and the negative impact that it has on democracy and equality cannot be ignored. It's time for the UK to join the majority of countries in the world that have already abolished the monarchy and embrace a more democratic and equal future.

In fact the local councillor told one family they could put the oldest son in the kitchen. There was no room for wardrobes and each child had a box on their bed with their clothes in. No tourist is ever likely to see a royal in the flesh.. they go there for the Royal buildings , statues and palaces the sights to see.. France is the most visited country in the world.. they have no royal family.. people go there for the Eiffel tower the food ,culture and museums.
They Provide a stable figurehead = questionable again.. they are seemingly stable because they are not simply figureheads, they are above the law, they don't need a drivers licence, or a passport or to pay taxes and they cannot be prosecuted in a court of law.. Why? because they are the Law they own the law.. Charles is the Sovereign ..look at them they are a laughing stock and a source of national embarrassment, do you think Andrew will ever see the inside of a courthouse for what he has gotten up to? never
The British empire Started to decline as the American empire started to rise.. why? Because Americans started to evolve beyond kings and queens and so called royalty.. perhaps Britain needs to evolve as well.

There are so many interesting quotes from this: Piers: "They perform HUNDREDS of duties every year!" OMG hundreds of duties!! haha. So they handle like 0-1 duties per day? Well, then they definitely deserve to be King and Queen! Also, when the other guy asks "what are suggesting as an alternative?", as though he really has no idea as to what any other options. It reminds me of the universal healthcare debate in the US. Politicians and media personalities always say things like "yeah, there are problems with the health care system, but what could we possibly do about it?" Then someone who has studied the subject starts to speak, but gets cut off by the host: "Well, we're out of time! We'll see you after the commercial!"

The long lines consisted of largely of southern English and visiting tourists as far as i could see. All this monarchy thing is a part of the celbrity adoring cult we have in this country. "tourisme pays for them" ok well in that case the billions earned by tourism would be better spent elsewhere, say, oh I don't know, on the NHS? Instead of paying for the monarchy to have michelin 5 star meals twice/day?
"they bring in more money than they cost" he invented this fact. the entire tourism argument assumes that these tourists visit the UK SOLELY because of the monarchy, in other words, the implication is that without the monarchy there would be WAY fewer tourists. I think it's a safe assumption to make that a very VERY small fraction of annual tourists are solely motivated by the royal family, rather these tourists visit the UK/London because there are thousands of incredible attractions in London, and only ONE of those thousands is indeed the monarchy and all it entails. If the royal family vanished overnight, I think tourism would be affected by less than 0.1%, and anyone who truly thinks that a significant portion of tourists visit the UK solely because of the existence of the royal family is utterly deluded.
