As an American, I think that a monarchy couldn’t work here in America but it is a great system over there. It allows the politicians to focus on political things and the royal family to handle the social requirements of a country. They also do a lot of work for charity. They bring up “what if Andrew was oldest” but he isn’t. Charles is. And then it is William and there is no sign that he is an Andrew. After that is George and time will tell how he turns out but how about waiting to cross the bridge of an “Andrew” being the one to inherit till that time comes about. You’ve got about 75 years of reign in front of you without a sign of a bad head of state
I'm also an American and I 100% agree. I would NEVER support a monarchy in America, but Britain isn't America and America isn't Britain. The British monarchy is over 1100 years old and in modern times is almost entirely ceremonial. There's no point in having an elected head of state if he/she has no real political power, especially in a country like Britain where the monarchy is such a vital institution. It's also important to our alliance with Britain because as an apolitical institution, they serve to bridge the gap between our government and the British parliament in a way that creates unified support in both countries.
Thank you Paula !! Yes the monarchy is very much loved in this country and I am proud to be British because of this incredible thing that we have and when we get the chance to celebrate we celebrate ❤️
Piers can't admit because he's friends with Camilla, but seriously, the royals are finished. It doesn't matter what they do they are not respected. Even as an Irish person, I know the Queen definitely deserved some form of respect, but she's gone now
@Lisa Clark so will STDs. Your comment can be applied to almost anything. Also, I know for a fact they won't be around for hundreds more years. I work in the UK and only ever hear brits say negative things about the institution. I think it will be like Russia and France ,they also had monarchs for hundreds of years, but people wanted them out.
I'm an American, and while I generally prefer elected heads of state, I think it would be a terrible mistake for the British monarchy to be abolished. It's a vital part of British history and culture, and it's one of the things that sets them apart from us. In addition, because the British monarch's role is almost entirely symbolic, it makes little sense to replace that with an elected head of state whose role is also almost entirely symbolic, especially when it requires the scrapping of an 1100+ year old institution. In a parliamentary system, there's really no difference between a hereditary head of state and an elected one, at least when it comes to their role.
Then let it be important to Britain why do other countries who want to get out still have to be apart of it? I'm saying this as a Jamaican American. Jamaica is the only commonwealth country that isn't even allowed to visit England without a visa. Modern infrastructure on the island is done through deals with China to build the highways and a Mexican company runs and maintains the airports even though they're all the property of the Jamaican government. So why is the monarchy needed for an island like that?
As someone FROM the British colony, and we have a lot of ADMIRATION and respect to our Queen ! its MIND BLOWING he from the UK said he DOESN'T THINK SO ~ Has he been living under a rock in the past 48 years?????????????
It would be more useful to highlight the huge funds the Royal Family brings in through Tourism, the enormous funds their philanthropic patronages attract and the people they help, the unique diplomatic skills and the relationships they maintain with other countries that cannot be replicated by any politician or celebrity, instead of just focusing on respect alone. People who don’t get it need to understand numbers and benefit to the regular public
Chipoo, YES thank you. I'm worn out from trying to get those points across to anti-monarchists. All the information is on the internet but rarely do those people do any research.
Could not care less. Just because you're providing benefit doesn't mean the idea that you deserve to be put their based on blood is correct. Good results doesn't make it moral. Thought the 20th century would've taught us that
4.6 billion people are not a fantasy. 4.6 billion people watched out of respect and grief for a woman they knew their whole life. She was a comfort to many people. People lined up for days for that 1 second of seeing her laying in state. Many people had the same answer when asked why they were there. They were there for their parents and grandparents. That alone proves the respect and loyalty the queen showed to people. These people did the same for her. She spent 70 years looking out for people and they were willing to wait day's to show her the love she gave them. It isn't a fantasy. It's loyalty and respect.

Since Mr. Smith has never been to the US, then he can't possibly fathom how shaken this country would be if suddenly the British monarchy went away. Who can name an elected head of state in the world. I can't think of one. The monarchy is what makes Britain British. These haters need to stop treading over the majority of the people of our great country.
Monarchy brings balance. Politics stay in check. Monarchy doesn't have political power. So, their interest stays aligned with the longevity of the country. Rather than corporate entities lobbying and corrupting the parliament.
They don't. Royal patronage if anything has a negative influence on charities. You can look it up. But even if they did, that's no reason for them to have extraordinary constitutional powers and privileges.
That guy that argues against monarchy tries to discredit absolutely everything good about the monarchy by acting like 5 year old toddler. He looks to me like that Life of Brian sketch "what did romans give us", except in his version he'll writhe and squirm to never say anything positive. I'm from Poland and from my perspective british royal family is the most important royal family in the world. It's a symbol, an important one, of tradition, stability and dignity. Hell, for many years of my life I was unaware that there actually are still several royal families in the world! Yes, they're just people, and some of them are bad apples, but in the end who cares? I don't understand why would Great Britain get rid of something that symbolizes Great Britain the most. Even if that's just that, a symbol.
It’s a spurious argument to say “What if it had been Andrew or that it’s a lottery”. If Andrew had been the heir his upbringing and preparation would have been entirely different, just as Elizabeth had an entirely different preparation than her sister. Careful preparation for their future role has, almost entirely, been very effective in assuring that the future Monarch will be well able to occupy the position. Perhaps with the sad exception of Edward who was simply a weak individual and whose abdication, after the fact, was widely recognized as a fortuitous event , he would have made an abysmal King.
I honestly don't get Republicans 🤷🏻♀️. Surely Politicians are a thousand times worse!!!! Why do they think that an elected person would be any better... Our Royal Family Generate huge goodwill around the world....and generate huge income in tourism for the UK.... It's Crazy 😳😢😢😢😢

To be fair, the queen was only on 1 Aussie bank note .. the king's head will still be on all Aussie coins. As far as keeping the Monarchy goes, as I explained to my youngest nephew - as an Australian, born in Australia from a long line of people also born in Australia, no matter how clever you are, no matter how good a person you are, you can never ever be the person in charge of Australia because you were not a English child who is the first born child to one family who lives in country across the globe.

Do you imagine that's some kind of argument? Try thinking a little bit more. Republicanism isn't about right vs. left, it's about right vs. wrong. I'm on the political right. Johnson was never someone I wanted as PM, but even if people decided they wanted him for president, why is my vote worth more than anyone elses? Plus, anyone voted *in* can be voted *out*. Would you vote for Charles? William? Archie? Well, tough, they're going to be imposed on you anyway.

You’ve got about 75 years of reign in front of you without a sign of a bad head of state
That's why Americans look up to celebrities so much
I'm also an American and I 100% agree.
Even as an Irish person, I know the Queen definitely deserved some form of respect, but she's gone now
Lol you celebrate pure stupidity 😅
@@galwaygirl8131 The Monarchy was around long before your time, and will be around long after you're gone!!
You need to get a life then honestly if that's what you're life is about
I'm an American, and while I generally prefer elected heads of state, I think it would be a terrible mistake for the British monarchy to be abolished. In a parliamentary system, there's really no difference between a hereditary head of state and an elected one, at least when it comes to their role.
good comment
Then let it be important to Britain why do other countries who want to get out still have to be apart of it? I'm saying this as a Jamaican American. Jamaica is the only commonwealth country that isn't even allowed to visit England without a visa. Modern infrastructure on the island is done through deals with China to build the highways and a Mexican company runs and maintains the airports even though they're all the property of the Jamaican government. So why is the monarchy needed for an island like that?
Fine they can live in their own world where blood means more than the people's will, I'll live in the 21st century
