Wow, these two stretches are amazing. A few repetitions over a couple of days fixed a back/hip issues I've had for weeks. Thank you! I've never felt a stretch like it.
all ideas from Feldenkrais, without giving any credit (credit goes back to Tom Myers, who got it directly in Amherst 1981, from Moshe Feldenkrais), the original lesson looks like AY217 On the side the sternum becoming flexible, and there is no stretching, btw.
I don't hit a "barrier", I just put my shoulder blade down on the floor. I feel some tightness in my side, but not much else. I've watched this video half a dozen times and I'm doing it exactly like he shows here.
I know some have suggested walking as a good way to treat APT. I know that when I spent a week visiting a friend in another state, we spent a lot of time walking around the city. I came back home and my deadlift felt 40lbs lighter.
Darci Whitehorne are you sure, quite like this? it doesnt look like any of the asanas I have seen or anything in advanced Bikram, there are some astanga asanas that are similar.
I taught Yoga for six years and I always borrowed information like this to improve traditional asanas or make modifications that worked for everyone. I thought about not calling my class Yoga anymore.
This is called a floor spinal 4teist in Yoga ...it not only activates breath in lower belly...and stretching of all the muscles he spoke about....it works on the digestive system.
Ribs achieving internal rotation and maintaining that position can relieve many issues (hip, knee, shoulder, elbow) issues. Calming our system's globally via the neuromuscular system. Could be visual and TMJ issues if unable to maintain the position. A very, very, very under reported problem is improper footwear. Shoes that l look like Lexus vehicles are most likely trash, we need a strong foundation!
I've had bilateral mid-lateral femoral pain for over a year now. I call it IT Band Pain, even though I recognize that typically IT band syndrome manifests just above the knee. I'm 6'4" and 41 and feel like my whole life and vitality have been sapped by this awful, chronic pain. I've done PT, acupuncture/dry needling, seen an orthopedist, had MR's taken, and have tried stretching and stretching in pigeon and double pigeon pose. NOTHING seems to give relief. I am going to try these stretches this afternoon when I get to the gym and I'm hoping I get some relief from this pain because it has been AGONY for over a year and nothing seems to stop it.
dealing with anterior pelvic tilt and trying to get it corrected, as it is negatively affecting my cycling posture, where I find myself putting most of my weight on the ischial tuberosity vs having my pelvis rotated more backwards. Will these stretches help correct that?
Uhhh. Maybe. I'd look at your bikes set up aswell. Talk to a kin, or ex phys, nota Physio or AT. Your quads being a contributor to power may try to put your pelvis in a better position. Same example with the glutes. Do you squat low ever? Have you had an fms screen?
Something CRAZY happened when I tried this. As soon as I grabbed the ankle of my lower leg and just barely started rolling back (not sure if i even moved at all) I had the most EXCRUCIATING pain in that hip joint (the hip that's on the bottom). I don't mean mere "discomfort"--I mean excruciating enough that I was screaming out loud and couldn't move the leg for a couple minutes. Not sure if I did something wrong, if my muscles are just too tight, or if I have something else going on, but that was horrible!
That's the first time in my life i did that second stretch.. Never saw it before but its the best gift i've ever given my back and legs

Very nice video. Reasonable, calm and reassuring instruction. Thanks.
Great post, thanks for putting up such an informative video on your stretches and their best use (exposures)!
I'm pretty mobile and spent a lot of time restoring my t spine extension, but the bretzel 2.0 opens up rotation so nicely! Thanks!
merci Gray! J'utilise souvent le FMS avec mes clients et j'ai beaucoup de succès !
Great video, very informative.
I almost had a panic attack just watching her stretch, wow O.o this is amazing
Amazing ! 🙏
what an amazing stretch, it really freed up my hips. Thank you. I have done a similar pose in yoga, but this one is better.
Thank you for letting us know, Eileen! Glad to know the Brettzel is helpful!

Is holding hands in pockets some sort of required warmup? Kidding aside, excellent info, as always!

I have been teaching this pose in yoga for years.

Fantastic! Though we tried to elongate cadaver's ITB and it is impossible. Myofascial line, absolutely.
how long should you stay at each position? whats the frequency as well? how many series?
thanks for the video
😂
You could do a vid on the arm sweep drill for shoulder mob. It seems a bit tricky. Does scap stay on the floor?
MyFMSTV, just wondering which of the two stretches works best to begin with or does it vary client to client?

Maybe try a knees over toes guy program that addresses every joint function

Will this help or hurt a person diagnosed with spondylitis, sciaticA in the S1 root nerve, and L5 root nerve pain?
I am not even flexible enough to get into position for 1.0 without hurting my back
Is the flexed hip side KNEE required to remain flat on the floor?
Love it , Love doing that pose
Gray Cook=genius
