      And why should USA retaliate against Russia for nuking Ukraine ? Why ? Has ukraine signed a defense pact with america ? US will also get nuked to oblivion if they decide to engage in nuclear war with Russia.. Why should the americans risk nuclear war for the sake of an eastern European backwater ?

      Stop spreading fake news, the US will not nuke Russia for using nukes in Ukraine. Ukraine does not hold enough strategic importance to the US to risk US cities being vaporized by a Russian strike. That is the whole point of nuclear deterrence. The US therefore does not / will not face Russia in a conflict directly, only through proxies in limited means. If Russia uses nukes against a NATO state, that is a different conversation.

      "Fully informed"?? The only people who might be "fully informed" (as it pertains to the US Military) are the senior Generals and Admirals in the US High Command as well as certain key individuals in the Federal Government (such as the President and Secretary of Defence). As for the rest of us (this also includes "wannabe armchair and video game experts"), all we can do is guess at best.

      1962-1973 - Cuban Missile crisis to the time when treaties were signed.
      1979 - USSR invades Afghanistan, US and USSR deploy nuclear weapons to the borders between East and West.

      @@avadhutagita3741 That we do not send many weapon systems to Ukraine for fear of them being too overpowered for Russia to hold the line against and Russia resorting to nukes makes it pretty evident that the USA alone would absolutely crush Russia. This is why we are forced to help Ukraine defend itself, otherwise Russia will next get its ass kicked by invading a NATO country and then resort to nukes out of desperation. As demonstrated by the Ukrainians, Russia is not the behemoth conventional adversary it was once believed to be. We assume though, because there exists insufficient evidence, that there is no reason to bet that Russia is no longer a nuclear adversary behemoth like no other. As far as "Why is Russia against NATO?", I suspect Russia's fear of losing the empire's hold over the 100+ conquered ethnicities and nationalistic fantasy of returning to the good old days of the USSR's power play a big role. Certainly NATO's hesitation to embrace a nation that remembers the monster Stalin as a hero plays its role too.

NATO has similar numbers but 2 thirds are high yield. There are over 20.000 cities in the West, around a billion people. There are some 1100 cities in Russia, some 145 million people. In a full nuclear exchange, Russia must choose its targets carefully, it can not hit them all, not enough nukes. But the West has enough nukes to hit all cities in Russia several times and still have spares. The first thing ALL of you should realize is that the Ukraine is NOT a NATO member, put this before anything you want to reply.
    Any tactical nuke attack against the ukraine would not come unprovoked ( ukrainian forces have before attacked Russian defensive infra structure like the early warning stations, which are a part of Russia's nuclear deterrence and NOT actively involved in the special operation against the ukraine ) , any Nato ( US ) retaliation against a tactical strike by Russia to the ukraine is a direct act of war from NATO against Russia which would expose all NATO countries with the danger of being retaliated against. Some smaller Nato members would still support a strike against Russia, but Major members do not want to face total annihilation by supporting a rouge corrupt state as ukraine, just because some entities withing the US are playing the game to weaken Russia in order to step in if the country fails to scoop up all the mineral rights steal resources and leave the Russian population to starve.
    That's the whole set up since the very beginning of the conflict since mr B. Johnston derailed the peace negotiations in 2022.
    So there will be NO total destruction of Russia by the USA without total destruction of the latter by Russia M.A.D and so called NATO partners like France will jump ship if they see they might get damaged the same counts for Germany and Poland who is not sure they should fight this in the 1st place. Belgium, Netherlands and Denmark might want to fight, but their population will revolt and politicians will turn on a dime. The new Members Sweden and Finland will opt out of any action on behalf of a USA only advantage. The Baltic states will support the USA but will be warned only once and again the population like from all other countries want's to survive.
    To close this reply, A ( provoked ) nuclear tactical attack will go 98% unanswered by NATO as nobody wants to sacrifice their populations. ( The same counts for Russia, Putin is not interested in sacrificing his population and risk retaliation, however a direct strike by any country against it's nuclear deterrence will not go unanswered.

      both sides having them is the prevention. Neither side can stop the return volley. Even if Russia nuked the Pentagon, US AWACS aircraft would assume command and control of US nuclear subs around the world. I'm sure Russia had similar redundancies in place if Moscow was hit. There is no escape or "winning" for either side. That is what has prevented nuclear weapons from being used for over 70 years and it's not changing any time soon. Don't bother listening to the saber rattling from Putin. In the 70's and 80's the nuclear rhetoric was even worse than it is now.

      The human race is at a moment of historic danger: The Doomsday Clock is still 90 seconds to midnight! 90 seconds away from the destruction of human civilization and possibly the human race.
      Some history helps with context as to the significance of the Clock;
      Founded in 1945 by Albert Einstein, J. Robert Oppenheimer, and University of Chicago scientists who helped develop the first atomic weapons in the Manhattan Project, the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists created the Doomsday Clock two years later, using the imagery of apocalypse (midnight) and the contemporary idiom of nuclear explosion (countdown to zero) to convey threats to humanity and the planet. The Doomsday Clock is set every year by the Bulletin’s Science and Security Board in consultation with its Board of Sponsors, which includes nine Nobel laureates. The Clock has become a universally recognized indicator of the world’s vulnerability to global catastrophe caused by man-made technologies.
