    I have had differant Food Saver dehydrators and they do not last for more than a year for me. Last year I bought a Nesco. So far so good. I also use it to store deyhrated food in jars. I made an educated choice to not own a freeze dryer. They are SO expensive, loud and huge size. I have had differant dehydrators over the years. I finally bought a 10 tray Corsi. Love it. I am on a very limited budget. I do the mylar bags, but to save money I don't buy bags that have a slide to close. I do use oxegn absorbers and a hair flattener to seal bags. I used to do that a lot and still have food storage from it. Today, I am doing smaller amounts so I just do it in wide mouth canning jars and vacumn seal them. I have one chest freezer. It is full of food saver bags of meat that I find on sale. I buy lots and freeze it. If I think we are going to have any kind of power outage I start canning what is in the freezer.

    We have a orchard with quite a few different types and for years we canned a dehydrated lots and it worked out well, now we have a freeze drying and I'm amazed how much better the fruits are to eat over dehydrated fruit, and storing is so much easier too like how you do it.

      @GubbaHomestead  6 дней назад +1

      Yes! I do the same with my orchard fruits! So so yummy! What fruit is your favorite to freeze dry? I still love some dehydrated fruit with honey and spices or fruit roll ups…love them both!!

      @GubbaHomestead Yes you can't beat the fruit leather roll up, we have three varieties of plums and also pears and apples and bing and pie cherrys. So pears and satsuma plums are probably my favorite, how about you?

    Thank You Gubba for this video. It is very encouraging. I do like the food saver system, However, I like to wrap what I'm going to save in parchment paper before it goes into the plastic bag. Could you share your opinion on this, PLEASE😁😁😁😁. Thank You again and Stay Faithful.

    I was reading that electric pressure canners are not recommended. I don’t have a gas cooktop. I assume you recommend this canner? I do use an electric water bath canner but I really need a good pressure canning solution. Curious if you could do a detailed video on yours or just give tips?

    Also, purchasing FD meals from other places…the portion size is fixed……and sometimes I’m a pig, and need more! 😂 With my FD, i control my portion sizes!
    I envy your space between shelves! I always have to slice my food sideways to fit my smaller space! Lasagna just isn’t quite the same when you remove the top, and set it beside the bottom of the lasagna! (But, it does still taste the same! 😉)
    I buy oxygen absorbers based on the largest size bag i use (a gallon)…….then use that size for all my bags! Easier!

    • @GubbaHomestead
      @GubbaHomestead  7 дней назад +2

      This is such a great point! You absolutely can control portions. And I didn’t think about that! More trays = less space in between. I do like my space because I sometimes put bulky foods in there lol!

    Could you vacuum seal freeze dried foods?

    • @GubbaHomestead
      @GubbaHomestead  3 дня назад

      Yes, you could. They won't last as long though for long term food storage as compared to mylar.

      Yep, I was prepping for 12 years when that hit. People at my work were complaining about toilet paper. i was sitting on about 300 rolls and I use a bidet which makes 300 rolls of paper last years and years and years.
