Did you find his elven voices good? It really seemed like he could not handle high voices at all. Which worked fabulously for The Hobbit as it is 99% dwarves and monsters. But Hurin is 90% elves.
This is what happens when you respectfully adapt source material. Andy Serkis' performance fits perfectly in the context of the movies as well as the books. Props to Peter Jackson and everyone that worked on that trilogy.

This is so wild and serendipitous. Last night I finished The Hobbit audiobook read by Serkis and went to go find LOTR to begin on that. I was sad to find he had not narrated that series and even more to my dismay, there was no news on whether he would reprise his role. I went to bed a little sad, wondering if I would need to download the older, Rob Inglis versions. I’m listening to this now and he is knocking it out of the park! There is narrating and their is voice performance. Andy is clearly the latter. Each voice is so distinct. You know the characters the moment he speaks. His performance just sweeps you right into Middle Earth. I haven’t even gotten to when Frodo meets Gollum but I can’t wait! It’s just spectacular to listen to Andy Serkis narrating Tolkien’s beloved series. I love it so much.
For the love of God, if we could get the entire cast to read the books and get Neil Gaiman as the narrator it will be like bread with just the right bit of butter to send me to Heaven!
I've never read the lord of the rings in its entirety! (I never got past chapter one of The Fellowship of The Ring lol). But since I found out one of my favourite actors was reading all 3 audiobooks..... 😮😮😮 Well I just had a to listen and read at the same time! I'm now almost finished the fellowship and almost onto the two towers...in less than 2 days! Andy Serkis' performance in story reading and of the characters is a masterclass in itself! I highly recommend all of his recordings for this trilogy! 😍😍😍
Jesus this Audiobook will be so awesome, how to pass the next two months... Andy is just the perfect fit, and I thought the German version of it with the German voice of Gandalf was the maximum to be reached...
Can I recommend the current versions available on Audible so be that actor is the voice of JRR Tolkien even though I'm very much looking forward to this new edition to the firmament as any collector would but you can't beat the classic only do something new I'm sure that's what everyone's favourite Golem will do
This is my favorite part of the trilogy. This conversation between Smeagol and Gollum. It is the essence thereof. Gollum represents the sorry state of humanity itself, if you ask me. I loved Andy's Gollum so much I kept imitating him everywhere and all the time. Freaked people out 😂😂😂😂😂 Wasn't asked on a second date 🤣 Andy is precious! I think I'd die of happiness if I ever got to meet him in person. ❤ Gollum, of course, is my favorite character in the trilogy, followed by Lady Eowyn, the Shade Slayer.
I know I'm a year late to the party but if I was on a date with a girl who did a Gollum imitation you bet your Precious there would be as many more dates as I could convince her to go on!
😭😍I cant wait! Tolkien's books are so special to me and Andy Is the greatest voice EVER! I cant wait to get it when it’s available! His hobbit audiobook is a treasure!
Can't wait to get this on my kindle, plug in the headphones and get lost in the amazing world of J.R.R. Tolkien and the incredible immersive storytelling of Andy Serkis.
Just outstanding. I'm about halfway through book three..finished the other two way to quickly. I listened to the older version years ago. I almost thought they brought in some of the other characters to do their parts as he matches many of the movie characters voices quite well
I love to just watch him work!!! I hope he knows that young people will continually be into the works of Tolkien’s LOTR…just all due to his commitment to the character!!
I only just found out that he narrated “The Hobbit”, too. There were other actors considered for the role of Aragorn. I don't think this goes for Gollum :)
