The "look out" or "Rubha Hunish" as it has aways been known was built in 1941 by the RAF, to watch for Uboats that gathered in the Minch, awaiting the convoys of American supply ships. The Lookout was manned by three guards who worked on 8 hour shifts and when sighting a Submarine would (remember the telephone) would phone to Oban where a fleet of Canbarra (Flying boats with depth charges) would take flight and within 20 mins would attack the enemy. It only lasted for 4 months before the "Wolf Pack" of German Submarines moved out into the North Atlantic East of Iceland where it was difficult to find. I love the Bothies and Scottish history.
Been there twice Robert. First just before it was opened as an MBA Bothy and again a few years later. First trip we stayed for 2 nights over a weekend just the 2 of us. Second time mid week 2 years later and it was busy. Having slept in every bothy that I know of including all MBA bothies, a total of 96 as well as many many other adventures be it under a bivvy or tarp, or even on various Survival trips.I have had a life of Adventure and I wish you well in your life of trips to come. The Lookout before it became an MBA Bothy in 2007 is still my favourite of all time. My health now curtails how far I can wonder, so I now stick to my other passion, playing live music. Hope to see you in a pub somewhere. I wish yourself and your friends all the best in your adventures. I am at peace with my health and the adventures Scotland have given me.

Absolutely fantastic Robert, well worth the 6 hr drive up, I was staying not too far from there when I was up in Skye doing the Cuillins. What a fabulous spot for a bothy, the views over to the outer Hebrides were sublime. Your drone shots were class, I especially loved the one where the drone is flying out to sea revealing the awesome cliffs below you, shamazing.👍👍👍 You’ll be buzzing for a while after that.🐝🐝👍 Thanks again for sharing, ATB Frank.👍

Hi 🙏 I have been there in 2018 😍, travelled all the way from Manchester back then. it’s a wonderful place, unfortunately, by the time I reached the bothy, I visited, there was a pretty big storm, very terrifying experience, next morning, storm was out and it was like heaven!… after me few other visitors were there and they were just very fortunate to be before the storm got worse! By the way, back then, there was a visitors diary 📔, I wrote my experience in that …, also there was fixed binoculars at the windows 🪟 of the bothy. From Raj Greetings from India 🇮🇳

The views are unbelievable up there Paul..As can you see in the video I loved iit.The old elastic strap round the the thermarest stops the pillow moving 😂and the wee vango soft pillow sits nice on top of it for a cracking sleep.I also use a sticky mat which I bought in Aldi’s underneath the thermarest to stop it sliding..Took me a while to get my sleeping system perfect 😂..Thanks again for your comment Paul. Cheers Robert

Being American, I caught about 71% of the gist of your narrative. (That equates to less than 71% of your actual meaning, LOL!) Love to listen, anyway. One question, was there enough room for everyone to sleep in the bothy?
Hi Richard,I do have quite a strong Glasgow accent 🙈😂..There was enough room to sleep in the bothy..Three in the sleeping area and three on the floor in the main room…You could of probably get one more person on the floor in the sleeping area. Thanks for watching 😍👍. Cheers Robert
One stormy night ,14 of us slept inside ,cosy. We tied the furniture to the ladders outside. The blue boxes in the clip were used to carry paint up to the bothy . Bill was rightly proud of his bothy
