About Pacific Drive:
Pacific Drive is a first-person driving survival game with your car as your only companion. I like the lore of the remnants. You become bound to an object and obsessed with it. By making the car a main mode of transportation and needing it to be repaired constantly, it forces the player to quite literally be obsessed with the car.
Thats what i also thought! At first I was like „Yea the charcter will go crazy at some point“ But after he found the paint it made sense. You not only repair it and need it. You also can customize it. And you will spend much time with it and it will safe you often.

@basic6735i believe it's called meta-gameplay or something like that.
Its even proven in his gameplay, when the car brings him back to the auto shop after he gets swallowed by the void the first thing he does is collect supplies from the dumpster to fix THE CAR and then he goes to heal himself.
Its a genius move on the developers part and a very clever way to portray the protagonists growing madness

That's what the noises were. It also prevent wireless communication of all forms
Also the old car runs while your newer first car died because old cars use carburetor and CDI, which is more resistant to electric interference, vs modern car with fuel injection and ECU
It's those subtle details that make a game interesting

Hate to reply so late but isn’t that also why the van in War of the World’s works/gets fixed when the others don’t? Cuz it’s older? It’s one of my favorite movies and also the first thing to come to mind when you brought up the difference between older and newer cars

I don't know why but the volume of the game and your mic is perfect enough that when you're blazing through something terrifying screaming it sounds like you're the character and i love it

1:17:19 NO DUDE TAKE IT! It doesn't collapse that zone it just gives you energy to open a gateway. It's only after a set amount of time or YOU INTENTIONALLY open a gate way! Collecting an anchor is within your best interest and perfectly safe

Man, driving horror is such an odd but welcome genre for me. BEWARE was interesting too, I wonder if it's still updated.
It is, I would expect a new update to be released soon.
I honestly just want more games where you are in the cockpit of a vehicle. Beware is nice, and there's still stories of a Tank game where your cramped inside the tank itself, but the only finished game I do know of is Elite Dangerous, and it's jsust not fun. Its fun with VR, but I dont own VR, and if I did, I'd probably play No Man's Sky instead. Hawken was a mech fighter game that got it's PC servers dumped, you basically piloted hardsuits the size of the ones in Brigador, like two trucks stacked on top of each other and given legs and arms. It might still be up on XBox or PS, but it's not the same. There were those Battletech cockpits you could buy like arcade cabinets, those were sick. It was basically just an arcade cabinet version of Mech Warrior though.
@@yggdrasilburnes I find elite dangerous to be fun personally, just going around, smacking pirates, selling loot, doing quests. But obviously not for everyone.

I like how the things you do in the game are explained and part of the story as well as the lore.
“People who are bound to remnants become obsessed with them,” is obviously the game’s way of explaining the player’s behavior because everything you will do in this game is essentially you obsessing over the vehicle/ remnant. It’s brilliant!
After watching Drae play I was totally hoping to see an igp video of this game. You guys play and appreciate things differently, so I’m definitely pumped to see you’re into this game.

Just want to point out that the rain on the windshield goes up the window when driving and down when Idle or reversing. A nice touch you don't sometimes see in sim racing games.
100% would LOVE to see more videos of you playing this game! I'm not a gamer myself, i get too frustrated but can sit and watch someone else play for hours. Would love to see a whole play through of this game, its such a well designed game with a gripping story.
As a former resident of the Puget sound, this is relatively accurate for the peninsula. Though it's missing flannel, beard oil, an REI and absurd amounts of traffic due to tourists (out of state ones).
I'm honestly surprised the game designers didn't implement tolls somewhere in the zone.

As a long time gamer I have now officially given up trying to understand what goes through the minds of these devs to come up with truly crazy stuff like this.
Look off the novel Roadside Picnic. Most of these stories are based off of it. Stalker, metro, Atomic heart, encased, and this game all run more or less with some of themes of the book. The zones in Stalker, Encased, and this game where reality is changed. Paranormal elements, and bizarre science. Artifacts left behind with strange abilities beyond our comprehension. Stalkers, and scientists entering these zones for money, fame, or seeking something to save themselves. Mutant horrors from those left behind, and things from other realities entering.
That's what I love about games like this. They may have their formula (loot, build, explore, repeat) but the core of it is maintaining curiosity and some semblance of sanity in an inherently unknowable environment. Even the designers don't know the true scale of the horror of their little universe.
This kinda makes me think of the book series "Southern Reach" and the movie they made from it "Annihilation". That story took place in the Pacific Northwest too I think
Annihilation and that trilogy/series was based on the Everglades in Florida.

I grew up fishing rivers all over there. The devs did a decent job of showing trees and ferns, but from my memory there are a lot more steep valleys. Plus the forests are denser with lots of moss.
Reckon they had to take some liberties to make the environment more accessible to a 1980's station wagon lol
This hit me so hard, when I was 19 my best friend and I went on a long roadtrip from Seattle to cape flattery, the most northwest point in the contiguous states, I met the chief of the Mohawk tribe, saw a gray whale right in front of me, scared off a cougar, and explored the peninsula all through the rain forest.
Cape Flattery is inside the Makah reservation, so you met a Makah chief. Mohawk are from the north eastern US
IGP I just wanted to say that I've been watching you for 5-6 years now and you've truly grown so much. Not only in fan base but in character and personality. Plus, your editing is just perfect. Keep up the constant uploads and just know that so many people love you for who you are.
I only watched the first like minute of this video where you explained what the game was. I immediately turned it off and prepurchased it, then waited till after I’d played for a while to watch this video

33:20 the abductor took your impact hammer the first time it turned red (it fell next to the trees he was in).. then it took you.. and it will take anything including your car! But the crude doors work for all openings on the car including the trunk

A family station wagon offroading through the forest without bottoming out or getting stuck is the most supernatural part of this game so far. I'm chalking that up to remnant superpowers. How do you get unstuck without a tow truck anyway?

I'll use a little bit stronger language, here: No VR, no buy.
Hopefully, as someone else suggested, the game runs under Unreal Engine, so UEVR may do the trick.

Ya gotta stream more of this game! Its so interesting, I'm used to seeing ground pounding survival horror in various forms, this I think is the first time that I know of, that I've seen a survival horror where you the vehicle is as much a story character as the player is. Plus. it'd be interesting to see if IGP can armor up the car and use off road tires he finds in the zones, that SW NEEDS some major upgrades to hand IGP's driving! ^.^

Towards the end, it just gave me ptsd of every hurricane I’ve ever been through, where I tried to return immediately after it passed lol.
U have to bring a chainsaw; power lines are down, some still live… U run over things and blow tires… There’s all miss of electrical popping noises and cracking of trees giving way in the woods. Animals still in a panic lol.

Also, the atmosphere is off the charts, and it is truly chilling and makes you uneasy to a degree… yet it uses the relaxing exploration aspect to make it seem more calm… before ramping it up, until the Instability is closing in, and you’re desperately careening through the forest,
This feels like it took the heart and soul of STALKER, and then added a bit more action, and an anomalous station wagon.
And honestly, there is no better content creator to cover this

Parts of this remind me of a dream I had a long time ago. It was the apocalypse, lava spewing everywhere, earth shattering, and various other disasters and I was driving a car with some survivors in it. I just kept driving as fast as possible, the roads would get blocked off and I'd drive up the banking jumping over pools of lava, fallen trees, molten boulders, etc. Shit looked like the driving scene from 2012 lol. Haven't thought about that dream in awhile but this game reminds me of it quite a bit, despite this being more supernatural based.

The face I made when my dad came in and recommended me this video + game from IGP while I'm consistently watching IGP was priceless
DUDE! The voice acting in this game is incredible!!! Oppy and Tobias both came off as totally fleshed out, believable as fuck characters in their introductions, and then the opening was so beautifully designed and intuitive and cohesive. I think I'm going to buy this game on principle alone so long as it doesn't go to shit later in the video (which I very highly doubt).
Edit at 19:40: Nope, fuck this, I'm buying it right now and playing it tomorrow without any further spoilers. This game looks like exactly the kind of rare horror game that is directly up my alley.

I know right, pre ordered it as well; interesting as heck game. I love horror games that are more atmospheric and dread-focused over ones that shell out excessive jump scares. This game checks out all of the boxes for me.
