Noah did such a good job with this interview, he’s a super fan and he really knows her work. Tori is a magical human being and it was so good to hear her speak and answer such thoughtful questions.
This is the most earnest, natural interview I’ve ever seen with Tori. Maybe it’s because it was in her own home, or because she missed this type of interaction during the pandemic. What a treat! I feel like I really got to see her as a person vs. just an artist or some magical goddess. I really enjoy seeing her being so comfortable and open.
I seem to remember that got mixed reviews, which seems funny in hindsight. Maybe they wanted a guy to have the gun. Who knows. I'm glad you can't wear out a CD... I was just listening to copies of songs from that CD, that made it to my phone via a couple mix CDs that I made, from albums and singles up to Boys for Pele... those copies started out in the late 90s! I need to buy the new album. I didn't know she made a Cornish album, but I could hear it so clearly in the brief clips in the NPR interview. Why didn't anyone tell me she made a Cornish album?! Er... why did t anyone tell me there was an interview tour to tell me (and everyone) about it? Better late than never.
@@suzannejane1035 Underrated too - yes by critics but also players and engineers. It sounds *superb*, eminently "realistic" and "live in the room" - two of the true gold standards, and every drummer should study Talula just to deprogram their prejudices. Top 10 as an engineer, player, and songwriter. Starts with Beauty Queen, ends with Twinkle - as good a "concept album" as the best of Yes and Floyd.
Great interview with a great lady. Always loved I can't see New York and at a meet and greet I told her how much that song moved me and what I thought it meant. I asked if I was right and and she said " your interpretation is pretty spot on, and it's valid." I got my hug &I said " That's what David Lynch says about art!" "She said "Does he?" And winked at me. Such an approachable awesome lady.
Oh my God! I thank him so much for asking these questions! This is everything I would have wanted to ask her. Thank you so much for being such a wonderful interviewer and a lover of Tori, because I devoured every moment of this. I even may have cried. Right before he asked about thematic writing on specific past albums vs personal and transparent writing on O2O, I was just shouting please ask her please ask her…and then he brought up that exact point. Perfect question. Excellent execution. I ate it all up- every minute. This. Is. EVERYTHING, especially for EWF’s who have been with her since the dawn of LE. ♥️♥️♥️♥️ And Oil Spill on the tour?!! Oh my God… I would eat that up oh my God we would all go crazy! #driveallnight
24:31 “Was she beginning dance class when I was killing it, killing it in the 90’s” gave me chills. The love triangle/betrayal theme seems to be one of her favorites and explored often since the early 2000’s (Wednesday, Another Girl’s Paradise, Parasol, Orange Knickers, Jamaica Inn, General Joy, Hoochie Woman-really all over TBK in general, Teenage Hustling, Almost Rosey, Fire to Your Plain…). Strangely these songs also feel like her most honest music about her relationship. Tori, we need Ballerina!
@@venusnode6 My interpretation of what she said: she was exploring the love triangle/betrayal theme and knew people in her life experiencing it. It sounds like she wrote about the love triangle/betrayal theme from their point of view but later embellished Ballerina's lyrics with her own relationship details ("when I was killing it in the 90's") to make it more interesting/give it "magic." I personally think, based on past interviews T has done and her own lyrics throughout the 2000's, that there was something like a love triangle going on in her relationship at some point in time--TBK era in particular. She has said before that she's hidden herself/her family behind characters in her songs to protect them. She's also said that Mark did not want her to write about him. I've always gotten the vibe that these love triangle/betrayal songs may be about their relationship but she is hiding it behind a character/singing about it like it's someone else's story because he does not want to be written about. This is all my interpretation though, not fact!
For those interested in the “archetypes” Tori keeps referring to, I highly recommend looking into the work of Caroline Myss, whom it’s clear she’s studied
She is so graceful, honest, and adorable, and the interviewer really had some "spot on" questions, others who interview artist should really take a page from that guy's book.
I adore Tori. What a fantastic interview. Thank you! Love from Glasgow; the show at our 02 Academy was immense! Flowers Burn To Gold is my fav off the new album - 'Death is not the end'. That speaks to me so much and I love that song xx
Thanks for speaking of the magic and protection that was created through sound for Kelsey. Such a beautiful gathering together of the power of sound and the power of community to protect and envelope her in this space and time. This particular part of the session inspires me and I will about this and about our power together since it also reminded me of a time when I was gathered together with a group of women in India on retreat in 2019. Our dance of Shiva stirred the cosmos that day and in those moments of sound and movement where we transcended any thoughts or feelings - it was incredible. It was also something that we can all call upon in our daily lives when needed.
Great interview! I didn’t want it to end! I love her. would love to randomly have a conversation with her. I like that she swears, I can’t help it either!😂
I'd love it if she opened each show on this upcoming tour with 16 Shades! Or maybe a new version of Curtain Call or something. I also wanna hear a band rendition of Leather!!! I can't wait to hear what she comes up with.
31:58 and after, this is so true about taking breaks... overnight especially, the next day is like listening sober. Also what she says about judging bass, how it will translate to different speakers... spot on.
30 years of interviews. Zero minutes of bullshit or self-hyping pretension. She isn't only an amazing musician, she's an idealized human that actually exists. Yea, I'm a big fan.
I think, I think I know what caused me to put that into my bottom of the pile. And it's too much Anger being brought forth on the album. HOWEVER, there are some songs that I just love, ie., Jupiter, Doughnut Hole, and just a few anti anger management issues - except for Blood Rose's.
@@Ancienttowers that's what makes the album great because it's so angry. Lol I know that's why I like it. Marianne is a good one too on the album. That's actually one of my favorites
Thank you for taking the time to share this! Does anyone know if she's in her UK home or her Florida House. If the latter is true, well I only live 30 minutes or less from her home in FL. I've only seen the outside though. I think I would be a little bit unsure of going to say hi, but it's really insane to of grown up in the same County and City that her parent's lived in. A very modest and older home. However, her Florida home is like Ft. Knocks with all sorts of trees and tall garden plants along a gated residence, but it's the exact opposite of her folks' modest home when they lived in Florida. Anyway, that's my little, Toti amos
First, I love Tori. Back to earthquakes. I get confused when she starts talking about Witches, and different women, and conjuring. There is no judgment here, but can someone tell me what she is talking about? Every interview I watch, I hope she will give a glimpse into what she's talking about, and instead, I just get more confused. I remember one interview she talked about hallucinogens. Can someone shed some light on this? I feel like someone ripped a page out of my book, and I'm missing something that could unlock these songs on a deeper level?
I wish I never saw this, I truly love her music, but now it's tainted by her TDS on full display. It saddens me to see so many people deceived by the media and the overlords that own it.
@skooshy621 Trump derangement syndrome, in my opinion it swings both ways...either extreme hatred for him or extreme devotion. In fairness, it is generally accepted that it means extreme or irrational hatred towards Trump.
I love Tori... have since what, 1990. She's literally a "blueprint". But I've grown tired of her holier than thou attitude. She is the legend, yeah .. but getting more annoying with age lol
So, I wonder…does she have a sort trauma around BFP like she did with YKTR for so long? As in…trepidation to play the songs. At the time…I so didn’t not realize that BFP was dragged so hard because I loved it so much!!!
Boys for Pele was SO good. They’re all so good. It astonishes me that anyone could hate her work.
Noah did such a good job with this interview, he’s a super fan and he really knows her work. Tori is a magical human being and it was so good to hear her speak and answer such thoughtful questions.
Tori is such a druid. And Pele was the album that scared me at first, and then slowly knocked my socks off, and then I couldn't stop listening to it.
Boys for pele is one of my favorite albums. It has so many powerful songs. Those critics obviously didn’t get it.
Same! It's my favourite album of Tori's and one of my top 10 albums of any artist. It's immense.
"Little Earthquakes" is her best, I.M.O.

So beautiful to see/her her thoughts on Scarlet. Scarlet’s Walk is my favorite album of all time.

Hey Jupiter makes me cry a little bit every time I listen to that work of art. We ♥️ you, Tori!
"God, what drugs was I doing then?" LMFAO
I want to hear Chiron which got knocked out for Addition Of Light Divided and lasts around 9 minutes!
This was an excellent interview!! 🤗🤩🥰 I thought I’d watch 10 minutes, stayed for the whole thing. Finally some great and sincere questions 🙏🏼❤️

Wonderful interview! What a treat for fellow EWFs. We miss you too Tori!
That whole Ballerina story is wild 😳

Listened to it twice! Thank you Noah and Tori. Ooohhh I'm so excited for the U.S. tour!!!
This interview is so great and Tori is so lovely here
Great interviewer, one of the best I've had the opportunity to listen with Tori, and she is divine as always!
Interview starts around
4:57
Also, playback is quiet.
I recommend a speaker or headphones.
What a delicious interview. Brilliant!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I love that "Devil's Bane" was written late in the game, one of my favs from the album Ocean to Ocean.
Great interview! I didn’t want it to end! I love her. would love to randomly have a conversation with her. I like that she swears, I can’t help it either!😂
This is an amazing interview, the note books should be edited and published! They would be sooooo fascinating
I'd love it if she opened each show on this upcoming tour with 16 Shades! Or maybe a new version of Curtain Call or something. I also wanna hear a band rendition of Leather!!! I can't wait to hear what she comes up with.
Lovely, she quoted Joseph Conrad.
Love her music since early 2000s, but damn her interviews are all soooo soporific!
So wonderful this interview with the fantastic Tori Amos
This is magical. Thank you ❤
I WANT A VIDEO FROM OCEAN TO OCEAN ASAP
Boys for Pele remains my favorite.

Great questions and interview guidance too. Two really smart people talkin'
I can listen to Tori all day long. She should start a Pod Cast.
This is a great interview!!!!
Boys for Pele is still my favorite.

Please come to Australia!!!

I would have included Holly, Christmastide, Circle of Seasons, Flicker and Better Angels on Ocean To Ocean.
Good Stuff Noah 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Vinyl releases coming soon, people! Best news!
Great interview, how can you interview Tori Amos wearing a baseball cap and sneakers...
16 Shades of Blue please 💙 #Australia
Best, interview, EVER
Either the video is mirrored or the audio is flipped but it's driving me nuts; when Tori talks it's primarily in the left ear and vice versa.
…..was this filmed in her NY apartment?
....... and 30 years ago they stressed about side 1 and side 2 :) And definitely organised albums that way!a
I've never heard Lady Jane! Has she recorded it? Is there a bootleg? Damn! We need it!
Oh, she turned into Snow Cherries From France which is brilliant!
She said it's everywhere in that album, have to peice it together
he should get a better audio setup, this is a wasted opportunity in that regard
I was 12 and knew what to do with her vulnerability, go figure 🤔, what a special human being who gave me front and center once
Playback is super quiet !
5:00 - Her last name rhymes with famous… not most.
Eu amei muito essa escultura como não associar a escultura com o seu astral haney
