Hey guys! Thank you so much for loving my first What I Eat in a Day Vlog so so much!! I'm so touched and overwhelmed by all your lovely comments & words. It was so beautiful thank you so much for watching my video!! I will be gone this weekend for a business seminar but I will be back next week and will start working on my next vlog! I can't wait for you watch it! ❤️ Also, if you want, go to my website to get printable written recipe & nutrition facts! seonkyounglongest.com/tom-yum-kung
My tips for tom yum: - I find that frying up the shrimp shell and head first + squeezing the head so that the guts have time to caramelize, and then adding water/stock will give it a much deeper shrimp-y umami flavour and a beautiful orange colour! (You can remove the shrimp shells once you've extracted the flavour, or leave it in) - Frying the aromatics at this stage (after caramelizing shrimp bits) also helps develop flavour by blooming it in oil. - Sugar (palm sugar if you have it) is an essential ingredient that will round out the strong sourness + spiciness of the soup. - Adding fresh lime during cooking will make it more bitter and less fresh/punchy - so definitely add lime (and half the fish sauce) after turning off the heat! :D
I love your faces, comments and of course your recipes. I find myself smiling and laughing while learning Asian recipes. Thank you! Also, that top is adorable!
You did something different to your look. Not sure if it's the hair or make up, but you look good gurl! I bet those aromatics bubbling away on there own would make a house smell so good. I think I'll try this this weekend!
The paste is called น้ำพริกเผา (nam phrik phao), if ur making creamy version then add this along with the pounded red chilli and then add in evaporated milk (not coconut milk) its traditionally made using evaporated milk. If ur making clear version then dont add in nam phrik phao, just add the lemongrass, makrood like leaves and galangal to water and bring it to boil then add in small thai shallot (leave them whole) then add in pounded thai red chilli and tamarind paste then add in ur protein ( it can be made using river prawn, normal prawn, cubed pork hock and feet, soft bone pork ( its a type of cut which comes from near the shoulder and hip area, it might be really hard to find in foreign countries except for thailand ).
This looks super delicious! I also think that I have most of the ingredients in my kitchen, so I think I'm going to make this tomorrow! Thank you for the great recipe! Anyways, I'm so excited to have found your channel! I was looking for health and weight loss inspiration and I stumbled upon your channel! I've been loving your content so I'm going to subscribe to your channel! I'm also leaving you a great big like to help support you! I'm so excited to be the newest member of your RUclips family!
I'm so happy to see you back to cooking with commentary! I watched your videos with the voice over needless to say. I missed your "original" style of recording! Amazing!
I will cry if you don't add the chilies 😂 I love tom yum soup with evaporated milk too, it really really tasty 💗 (but my grandmom like to use coconut milk instead, I'm not a big fan tho, but it's like an old Thai granny style) ps, love your dress, so lovely! 🥰 have a great day, sa wad dee kaaa 🙏
"If the Thai product says Hot, or Extra Hot, watch out. You're gonna hurt yourself." The way you said that so seriously and your facial expression was so funny to me!
Ok, so I NEVER comment on videos (usually my daughter does tho lol). But not only do I love your recipe, you are SO ADORABLE!!! Thank you for a great video ❤
Seonkyoung, I really like your playful, intelligent, and FUNNY commentary (like shrimp "nose hair" and Jenny from Forrest Gump) haha! Love your cooking recipes as always.
That soup looks AMAZING 🥣🔥! I can’t wait to try making it. I know o won’t be able to find those super duper huge Prawns but I can get some good extra jumbo ones. Your Mom is so beautiful , I can see where you get your looks from. She was so funny when Jacob told her the camera was running, 🏃🏼♀️💨she ran outta there, lol. Love 💖you videos . Can’t wait for more recipes & vlogs from you.
I really like this dish. I tried it in several Thai food restaurants around here and they all had their own take on it, the only big thing they all had in common is that it was really hot & spicy :D
Beautiful home. I swear I thought it was a back drop. Lol, like wow it looks so real until the end when your mom walked through the back. Lol, like derrrrr it is. Lol
4:00 when you said galangal and started running your knife through it that smoothly i was like ...WAIT!!!😱 That's not galangal...But after the moment of realisation ....😮oooh
Yes, that will do in a pinch. But I do hope you can find kaffir lime leaves, they freeze well. If you happen to live in a temperate climate, the kaffir lime tree grows prolifically, and as it's mainly harvested for the leaves and not the gnarly fruit, it's not so challenging to grow.
I know it would be an extra step but, since a bit of it is inedible, could you maybe strain the stock before adding the mushrooms and everything else to it? This looks delicious and I want to try it but I don't know if I want to go fishing around for the mushrooms and shrimp haha
Yes, that is what some people like to do. After the herbs have infused their flavour you can strain/scoop them out and then add the rest of your ingredients
Can you make your Version of Vietnamese Pho by add Can Coconut Milk & Cream Cheese with Squid & Extra Dark green leaves plants Vegetables & your favorite Vegetables too with Baked Red-ish Tomatoes with Garlic, your favorite Korean flavors at 350 f for 30 half a hour or so for to add to Soup? Add red onions too. Can you add few ingredients for Japan Japanese & Pakistan Pakistani to add to Soup Pho?

It will go great with vermicelli (skinny rice noodles). That's how us Vietnamese would eat it.

Oh wow! THAT LOOKS AMAZING! We're definitely trying that out and making a video for our channel.
Sending our love from Malaysia!
I don't know what your kitchen looks like, but from just this angle, mfn kitchen goals.
If the Thai chilis are that spicy.. how do you clean the mortar,, to make sure it doesnt transfer to the next food you use in it?
Looks yummy. Kaffir lime leaves are ripped to bring out their aroma better, just like smashing the lemon grass.
Did you just tell the shrimp that his nose hairs are too long for a woman to kiss him? HAHAHAHHA
Great NOW i am Hungry 🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨 Greetings from Austria ✌
oh my god that intro hahahahaha amazing!!!
Your mom is too cute lol I avoid cameras at all costs too lol
I absolutely just Love You 💜💜💜☮️☮️☮️🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰💯💯💯💯💯💯
Hi is there an alternative for the thai chilipaste?🤗
this is one of our favourite Thai soup, just the vegan version. i cannot wait for you to re create this vegan :)
4:00 when you said galangal and started running your knife through it that smoothly i was like ...WAIT!!!😱 That's not galangal...But after the moment of realisation ....😮oooh
Wow!!!! Can you add glass noodles to this soup?
Of course!
Can you make a vegan tom yum noodle soup video??
The nose hair scene earned you a subscription 😅
Ughhh my fav 🥰
😂 0:23 love the humor
Is it possible to exchange the lime leaves for lime zest?
Yes, that will do in a pinch. But I do hope you can find kaffir lime leaves, they freeze well. If you happen to live in a temperate climate, the kaffir lime tree grows prolifically, and as it's mainly harvested for the leaves and not the gnarly fruit, it's not so challenging to grow.

Delicious 🤤
Can we chop up the lemongrass?
Not unless you want hard chewy bits of lemongrass in every bite
This food looks bomb but also your outfit is SO CUTE. I love your hair clips, too.

Do you have a recipe for Bawan (Taiwanese meatballs)?
Can you add Gochujang paste instead of Thai chili paste?

The only day Seonkyoung is gonna disappoint me is on Feb 31st 😆
