Your content continues to be scarily in line with my exact needs and preferences 😂❤️ I recently bought the glossier on your recommendation and I am obsessed with it! I was so happy to see that its ingredients were approved by the eczema association. So glad to have your content!!
I live in the mountains of Colorado, so I'm at a high elevation with low humidity. I tried vaseline for my eyes but felt that it just slides all over the place and feels uncomfortable. I ended up purchasing the Vaseline Body Balm stick and its magic. It's more solid than tub Vaseline, stays on the eyes, and is an amazing chapstick. It's also great as a skin barrier when you're out in the cold. Highly HIGHLY recommend it.
As a 46 yo, dry, dehydrated, very sensitive skin gal, I’m constantly on the hunt for an amazing sleeping pack, moisturizer, or mask! I’m very intrigued with the glossier, I may need to give it a try. My holy grail at the moment that I cannot recommend enough is Kiehl's Ultra Facial Overnight Hydrating Face Mask with 10.5% Squalane. It is amazing!!! I highly suggest you give it try. I use it all ways. As a last step sleeping pack, 10 minute mask before my shower, or spot treatment.
After Baume is hands down my favorite. The feeling is the epitome of luxurious. I slug with it at night, and use it on my lips and around the lip during the day. They just introduced a jumbo size at 125ml. Btw, I am, as of todat, a new subscriber. I really like your videos for a number of reasons. Someone on Reddit's Sephora sub recommended you.
I can really listen to you talk on and on about skincare and makeup. You have this intelligent, deliberate way of describing products that addresses the points I care about. I'm sold on the Glossier baume. Oh and cupuaçu is pronounced "coo-pwah-soo" :)
Hi Kait! This vid is a godsend! I swear my YT recommendations are getting scarily accurate bc I’ve actually tried 5/9 of the products mentioned and I’m so gladdd to find someone who has also had to go through the traumatic journey of finding a good occlusive balm to help with that Norcal dryness (I live in Norcal too heey!). I thought I’d leave my own thoughts on the balms that I’ve tried & that you also mentioned for anyone in the comments looking for more perspectives on the products! LRP Cicaplast Baume B5 : I know this one is a very popular & very well loved product….but i hated it lol. The first night I tried it, I slathered it on my face & it definitely gave me a crazy whitecast lol. It also pilled on me and broke me out so I haven’t tried it again since…buy maybe I’ll give it a shot as a spot treatment. 4/10 MAKE Hibernation Capsule : I’ve tried a lot of MAKE’s products & I reallyyy wanted to love this bc of that bouncy texture & the very captivating packaging but I had the same experience as you when I woke up the next morning, my skin was suuuuper tight & dry. I gave this one so many tries bc I heard other influencers who love it say it works well under hydrated skin but no matter how I used it- under a rich moisturizer, under damp skin + h.a. serum + moisturizer, or even on its own, my skin just felt like paper every time 😭. I think this product is probably best suited for oily skin bc all the people I’ve heard good things from had oily/combo skin. 4.5/10 (.5 for cute packaging sorry 🤷♂️) AoS Molecular Barrier Balm : I bought this right after it launched bc I had just ruined my skin barrier and needed something to help whip my skin back into shape & this looked very promising, I mean ‘Barrier Recovery’ is literally in the name. I really wish I’d saved my coin on this one, there’s nothing really wrong with this, although I do understand your disdain for their packaging lmfao, the pumps are sooo annoying, I found it to be just okay for my skin, I actually like the smell of the Black Cumin Seed Oil in this but I’m just weird like that. I would still wake up feeling a little tight + dry with this but less than with the MAKE balm. After watching your video, I’m realizing that I also had an issue with pilling with this too, at first I thought it was another serum I was using but now I’m starting to think it was this one all along. Overall, for all the fancy sounding ingredients in this product, I’d say skip it & buy the Tatcha Indigo Repair 👀. 6/10. The next two I have only used once but they also happen to be my top 2 bc they are just THAT good. 110/10 for both of these. Glossier After Baume : Literally. Where. Has. This. Been. All. My LIFE??!!!! This is actually the first Glossier product I’ve ever tried bc I’m a guy that’s not really into makeup & quite frankly I never found their skincare to be that exciting, cute packaging aside. I had my eye on this since they launched it & I finally decided to try it after seeing Kackie Reviews Beauty rave about it lol. This is soo great idk how many times I can say it, it’s thick & cushiony without being heavy. It just literally feels like a blanket for your skin. I’ve only tried this once so I don’t have much to say on the longterm benefits but when I woke up the next morning after using this, my skin felt very comfortable & that’s when I knew it’d won me over lol. Tatcha Indigo Overnight Repair: TL;DR: Heaven In A Jar. Again, only tried this one once but wowww, I’m in love & I already know that I just cannot live without this in my life. In the jar, it looks like a very lightweight gel cream but when you start spreading it on your face, it starts to turn into a richer texture while still maintaining a bit of that jelly texture (I’m so bad at describing things I apologize 😂) but I found it similar to the Farmacy Niacinamide Mask’s texture-this one’s a bit heavier though. The next morning my skin still felt very moisturized and comfortable (it’s a feeling I’m getting used to now that I have this baby & the Glossier balm in my life 😌). I love it! That’s all I can say about this absolute legend for now but yeah, it’s amazing & if you wanna splurge on a balm, it should be this one! Anyway, I’m so sorry for leaving an entire novel in your comments I just thought it might be helpful for others to read 😅 I’m so glad I found this vid + your channel. You’ve gained a new subscriber for sure. K, bye!
Wow we have SO many of the same opinions! I’m glad to hear I wasn’t the only one with pilling issues from the AOS balm, I haven’t seen anyone else review it yet. And the Make hibernations capsule….yikes. I’m still mad about it. Now that I have the Glossier and Tatcha, my search is finished! Can’t live without them
Cerave products sting my face, too. I thought I was the only one because all I ever hear is how gentle and hydrating they are. I feel validated. Thanks, lady! p.s. I ♥️ skincare content!
This video is so helpful!! I know it was from a few years ago, but I have had the tatcha indigo overnight repair as my holy Grail for a while now and have been debating to try the allies of skin, however, this video has convinced me otherwise. I’m so glad I came across your video… I have tried the peptides and antioxidant firming cream from AOS and that one in particular did pill on me and I didn’t understand what it was because I love all my other serums. Thanks for this!!!
Kait I have watched 20 videos of people blowing the Glossier balm up and I was not tempted to buy it until your video. We have similar skin needs/requirements and I can't wait to get it in the mail. Thanks
Have you tried Egyptian Magic for slugging? It works great too. You can buy at Whole Foods or Amazon. And in combination with Farmacy Honey Halo it’s amazing!
@@StateofKait yeah I have very sensitive and sensitized skin. Actually just recovered from a face rash and this and Honey Halo worked a miracle. You only need a very small amount, warm it up in your hands and then just press onto the skin…..
The Make stuff has lysine; I used to take that to help dry out my cold sores so that might be why. Love this video thanks! Just moved to Cali and my skin did the same thing (oily to dry) and it’s been weird
I got the Dr. Rogers Restore Healing Balm in a dermatologist-curated skincare box, and it has worked wonders for my dry ass under eyes and lips. You need the tiniest amount. Also, Vaseline now makes a large stick of balm for your face, which I find super convenient, and it puts a thin layer for face stuff. Just some other fun products to try if you’re so inclined! Great video, as always!
i saw the glossier on your stories last week and ordered it immediately and i cannot BELIEVE how good and how quick it works. my flaky skin is truly transformed! 😭🙌
Thinking about getting the glossier after baume. Maybe I missed it, but do you use it as a moisturizer alone, or on top of another moisturizer? Loved this video btw, very informational :)
I want the new Glossier balm, I’ve heard good things from several trusted RUclipsrs now. Also, a throwback to a previous vid, you guys should incorporate random dance breaks in videos. Just saying 👍🏼 loved it for the 10K celebration 🍾
hahahahaha I think I should do random dance breaks too. The sad part is I can't use any recognizable music - I got demonetized on my 10k video for using Abba
THANK YOU THANK YOU omg my dry skin was rough all winter in the northeast. Never heard of the slugging method! I have sensitive skin, but Cerave doesn't seem to bother me at all. I've been using glossier Future Dew and I really like it, but I also love trying new stuff. I don't think I can forgive that whole Naturium scandal anyway, but that really stiff product in the jar looks really odd! I'm looking forward to trying after Baume.
Definitely getting the glossier one after this! Avene Cicalfate used to be my savior at the start of my tretinoin journey & I still pull it out when I’m extra dry and rosacea is flaring up 😊
I was so fearful you were going to name the Tatcha as your epic fail and was so relieved that you didn’t because I am in LOVE with Tatcha’s overnight indigo cream!!! What a good video idea for a trendy topic❣️❣️😊😊
So interesting about your skin changing-I had a similar experience. I lived in New Mexico my whole life and had oily AF skin, and now that I live in Seattle it is on the normal to dry side which is absolutely crazy.
If you like a balm texture but not as heavy as Vaseline I think you'd like the Honest Company Calm and Heal Melting Balm. It's so hydrating and feels great on the skin!
Just the review I was looking for! I have unintentionally been 'slugging' using the cicaplast baum since having dry patches from tretinoin. I will give glossier a try as sometimes the cicaplast baum can still leave me a little dry despite being super oily in the day - it's a curse! I have also started using the beauty pie super active ceramide capsules every few nights which seem to also help. Love your content
I have had great results at night with mixing a lentil-size dab of Medela nipple cream (Yeah. I said it.) with a few drops of squalane. The Medela is just lanolin, which I am not sensitive to. The squalane thins it out so it is a bit less gummy and sticky on my face. It’s still a hair magnet, so you would hate it. But it has calmed my rosacea like nothing else. I have also tried LRP, aquaphor, and a hippy local calendula beeswax salve that works well, but smells like cheap tequila. I just ordered the Glossier balm after watching this!
Honestly, the Glossier is my fav. Nothing could ever beat it! But lanolin in a pinch is wonderful, I love lanolin and a lot of people have told me they use nipple cream
Love the Tatcha and the LRP. I am also enjoying Jordan Samuels new one the moisture recovery cream. Will have to try Glossier as I’ve never tried anything from them. Great recs! Btw AOS products packaging definitely needs improvement!
@@StateofKait while I find it doesn’t beat Tatcha and LRP is definitely thicker and more occlusive the JS is a thick cream that spreads very easily and has some great ingredients like squalane, glycerin, Shea butter, fatty alcohols, ceramide NG, etc. Definitely great barrier support. Not greasy and has occlusivity. My face doesn’t feel dry when I wake up. I really like it!
I do! The tatcha is more like a serum, cream, and balm in one so i wear it on its own all the time. Glossier you could also wear on it’s own but it just doesn’t do as much as Tatcha
Yay I've been looking for a video about this topic. thank you! Still looking for a replacement for my HG night cream COSRX Honey Ceramide Full Moisture Cream, 50ml, Daily Moisturizer for Dry Skin that was discontinued. It's been a challenge to find a comparable product that is affordable/value for money.
Allies of Skin Promise Keeper is my personal holy grail skincare product. It was absolute magic after a lifetime of fighting severe cystic acne. I personally have never had a packaging or pilling issue with them, but could definitely understand with their prices how that could be frustrating. I would suggest the REN Overnight Recovery Balm. Get a sample at Sephora first - as it is spendy and does have some natural essential oils in it. I had tried about ten samples of it before actually purchasing. I use it every time I take a flight because it is so good at providing a protective moisture barrier for my skin. Prior to finding it, I’d always break out after a flight.
the following tip may not work for truly dry skin, but i feel i must mention that olive oil used as a makeup remover balm (followed by regular cleansing) makes such a difference in the texture and overall appearance of my skin. i have slightly oily skin, but for the past few weeks it had been looking just... off. the lines and texture, despite exfoliating, were looking worse and i simply looked older (i'm 41). i tried to think about what i used to use when i thought my skin looked good, and it was the oil-as-makeup-remover method. so, just wanted to share in case it helps anyone.
So unfortunately I was honestly intrigued by the After Baume due to it's pretty packaging but still had hopes it would do the job. And by hopes I mean that genuinely I thought it would be good considering that Glossier has done well with their products ( I like them ) and so is it really supposed to be used as a sealant? Because when I used it as a regular moisturizer after my serum, it only seemed moisturizing for a couple of hours. After that my skin felt so dry 😢. As if I did not apply anything.
Ok so i totally hear you on allies of skin, and that balm does pill but like after you know? Like it feels fine and then a minute later you go to touch and it pills. I feel like Maybe its the oats in it. I do think that the pumps have weird dispensers but ive found if you pump, hold the pump and then squeeze the tube it worked fine! I also think the retinal mask is amazing
Thanks for this, Kait! I think my dry skin would appreciate the slugging method- can't wait to try it! Question: where do face oils fit in the slugging method? Directly before the occlusive? I've always used face oils as my last step, as per my dermatologist's advice. But I'm guessing there would be a different order for slugging...
Great video with tons of information. Thank you ❤️ I have really sensitive skin and can't handle lanolin but I can handle CeraVe. Funny you are the reverse. Have a great weekend ❤️
Greet review. I was kinda disappointed with the make products. I tried the hype of the gel cream earlier this year. Nice consistency but did nothing overall for my dry/ combo skin which is odd because the haru haru gel is amazing as a lightweight gel that packs a punch. Overall I like the philosophy of the company but they were too hard to get the products to keep trying them. I’m in a hydrating toner phase and then I’ll seal in with a hydrating cream or oil on top. I’ll try one of these for my seal in phase!
This is so OG but have you ever tried Elizabeth Arden’s 8 hour cream. You could easily slug that. I live in Maine. The climate is pretty moist/rainy, but it is COLD. So you go from indoor dry heat to outside wet freezing cold. You may not be able to tolerate the fragrance, but Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base saves me during the day. The Farmacy honey products work beautifully in the winter.
40, F. Face pretty clear. Back = acne all over, going back 14 years. Cicaplast Baume B5+ is unbelievable combined after 5% Benzoyl Peroxide gel ... My stubborn unresponsive acne has improved by 70% after two months. Cicaplast is unbelievable. I also slug with it nightly (mixed with a dash of Vaseline-in-the-tub). Less is more here. Its amazing. Also, i frigging HATE Cerave!😅
That’s so interesting about your skin change, I lived for 33 years in a city on the beach and my skin was always horribly dry then 6 months ago I moved to the country where it’s over an hour away from the coast and my skin is more dehydrated normal so while still needs daily tlc I can actually work with it now where as there was more days I couldn’t wear foundation in the beach city.
Seriously, so many of the ingredients in products sound alien and weird. I wonder if I’m supposed to be impressed and lured by seed oils and plants I have never in my life heard of. I’m going to get that Glossier Baume. Sounds amazing.
I don’t mind when brands talk about their fancy ingredients as long as they say what they actually do 😂 the Make balm label sounded like it was written in another language
Ty for the info. Looks like I'll add the Glossier to my wishlist. Haven't figured out exactly why, but Tatcha products seem to break me out? I'm ok with their silk primer (which I love), but have tried a.couple cleanser/moisturizer sets and it didn't go well.
@@StateofKait I wanted to love it and I have tried it with legitimately EVERYTHING I own underneath and boom pilling which irritates me to no end. I get all my good skincare on and feel like I need to wipe my face because of the pilly mess it’s become. It has such good ingredients I had high hopes 😑
@@StateofKait - You are right!! Lol! I’m watching your video again to see which glossier product you like and hopefully you will have a link and I’ll go for it!
AH but its the total opposite! Humidity helps retain skins hydration-actually to the determent of some oily/acne sufferers. Like 100%. There is loads of research!
@@StateofKait that’s so weird! I have no idea. Maybe the wind? Higher altitude? Lol. I don’t know- but it’s def not the humidity (I live in f*cking Florida btw ). Apparently Humidity IS bad for your hair however, but real good for the skin (most peoples).
@@StateofKait oh and just thought of this- maybe the water is hard? And in L.A. it was soft? Hard water can make your skin dry, itchy etc. worth looking into !
have you tried the kate somerville delikate recovery cream? soo thick and luxurious--kind of looks like the texture of the glossier, but I haven't tried that so can't be sure. the REN overnight balm kind of looks like vaseline and feels like straight oil, but it actually absorbs completely into my skin. I don't think it's as occlusive as the kate somerville, but it's my go-to if my skin is the irritated kind of dry.

I love that too! It’s just far too lightweight for my skin when it’s dehydrated. New York in the summer time though? The Stratia is my fav
If you like a balm texture but not as heavy as Vaseline I think you'd like the Honest Company Calm and Heal Melting Balm. It's so hydrating and feels great on the skin!
Thanks!
Oooooo I need to try those capsules!
@@StateofKait yes! It would be great to get your thoughts on them too :)
Ooooo how does the Jordan Samuel compare?
@@StateofKait while I find it doesn’t beat Tatcha and LRP is definitely thicker and more occlusive the JS is a thick cream that spreads very easily and has some great ingredients like squalane, glycerin, Shea butter, fatty alcohols, ceramide NG, etc. Definitely great barrier support. Not greasy and has occlusivity. My face doesn’t feel dry when I wake up. I really like it!
Love this video! Question- have you ever used avene cicalfate?
Thanks! No I haven’t!
Hi Kait😊. Do you use a moisturizer before the Tatcha or Glossier balm? Thanks💕
I do! The tatcha is more like a serum, cream, and balm in one so i wear it on its own all the time. Glossier you could also wear on it’s own but it just doesn’t do as much as Tatcha
Love all of your descriptions, super helpful for my skin type. Thank you!!
thanks!
just discovered you. you are stunning ✨
Thanks!
Sidenote: Gothamista speaks highly of Physiogel Daily Moisture Therapy Face Cream. Haven't tried it though.
I used to love that too!
Ugh I wish I could use the REN but essential oils are the number one trigger for reactions for me :/
the following tip may not work for truly dry skin, but i feel i must mention that olive oil used as a makeup remover balm (followed by regular cleansing) makes such a difference in the texture and overall appearance of my skin. i have slightly oily skin, but for the past few weeks it had been looking just... off. the lines and texture, despite exfoliating, were looking worse and i simply looked older (i'm 41). i tried to think about what i used to use when i thought my skin looked good, and it was the oil-as-makeup-remover method. so, just wanted to share in case it helps anyone.
Nice!!!
I feel like
Maybe its the oats in it. I do think that the pumps have weird dispensers but ive found if you pump, hold the pump and then squeeze the tube it worked fine! I also think the retinal mask is amazing
But their customer service is bizareeee
I’ve purchased four AOS products with that pump and even squeezing the bottle didn’t work for me. I give up, no more Allies of skin for me!
Yep! You'd use a balm after your oil.
@@StateofKait Thanks!
Great video with tons of information. Thank you ❤️ I have really sensitive skin and can't handle lanolin but I can handle CeraVe. Funny you are the reverse. Have a great weekend ❤️
haha! Everyone's different, that's for sure :)
Loved this video. Btw love your lip color. I have fair skin like you and I used your link to buy two of those lip colors ❤
I hope you like it!
Me too :/ I was bummed in the brand overall
This is so OG but have you ever tried Elizabeth Arden’s 8 hour cream. You could easily slug that. I live in Maine. The climate is pretty moist/rainy, but it is COLD. So you go from indoor dry heat to outside wet freezing cold. You may not be able to tolerate the fragrance, but Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base saves me during the day. The Farmacy honey products work beautifully in the winter.
I have! I love that product but the strong fragrance wasn’t for me
So interesting, right!?
You just made me buy tatcha serum cream. My skin is exactly acting like yours
It’s soooooo good
I’ve been so interested in the allies of skin but I haven’t taken the plunge yet but now I’m kind of glad I haven’t lol
I really think there are better options for less money
So far I loveeee this balm
Ha!! I’ve been putting Vaseline on my face for years! No, definitely not the elegant experience…LOL
Hahaha well I bet you look fresh as hell!
Oh interesting! This is the only Tatcha product I’ve tried since the rest have fragrance
Love your lewk today! Diggin the hoops!
Oh thaaaaaanks
dimethicone is slightly less effective than petrolatum as an occlusive but it's often included in 'oily skin' products to act as the occlusive ☺️
That makes total sense. Thank you!
cerave products sting my face too and apparently it happens to a lot of people? i wonder why
No idea
Can the glossier baume be used under makeup?
I wouldn’t, it’s extremely thick
Omfg the pilling pissed me off with the Allies balm so much! I wanted to love it but damn the pilling was like a snake shedding
So glad I'm not the only one who had issues with it!
“Speak to me like a goddamn human”
Hahahahahahha
WOW!!, I thought it was just me. CerVe stings me too.
Yeah it’s bummer :/
Tatcha is the best!!! One hundred percent! The water cream is too light and does not hydrate. SkinFix is awesome too!
Right? It's UNREAL it's so good
@@StateofKait - You are right!! Lol! I’m watching your video again to see which glossier product you like and hopefully you will have a link and I’ll go for it!
@@loriwaters9233 the glossier after baume is linked in the description box!
@@StateofKait - Bought it! Thanks!
If you haven’t tried the Vanicream Moisturizing Cream you get a TON for your buck, it’s suuuper basic, and gets the job done for face and body!
I have tried it! It's not a balm though so I didn't include it. Definitely more of a moisturizer on me
Sleeping masks don’t work for me, I tried the sulwhasoo overnight mask. I now prefer Vaseline 🤭
Vaseline is so effective!
💗💗💗
Happy St. Patrick's Day.
That’s tomorrow my friend
AH but its the total opposite! Humidity helps retain skins hydration-actually to the determent of some oily/acne sufferers. Like 100%. There is loads of research!
I had so many people tell me that! So why then moving to a place like the bay would make my skin more dehydrated?
@@StateofKait that’s so weird! I have no idea. Maybe the wind? Higher altitude? Lol. I don’t know- but it’s def not the humidity (I live in f*cking Florida btw ). Apparently Humidity IS bad for your hair however, but real good for the skin (most peoples).
@@StateofKait oh and just thought of this- maybe the water is hard? And in L.A. it was soft? Hard water can make your skin dry, itchy etc. worth looking into !
FIRST
Nope
have you tried the kate somerville delikate recovery cream? soo thick and luxurious--kind of looks like the texture of the glossier, but I haven't tried that so can't be sure. the REN overnight balm kind of looks like vaseline and feels like straight oil, but it actually absorbs completely into my skin. I don't think it's as occlusive as the kate somerville, but it's my go-to if my skin is the irritated kind of dry.
Oooo need to try!
Love this video! Question- have you ever used avene cicalfate?
No I haven’t!
@@StateofKaitseriously try it it’s ranks with the rest of your slugging collection
