Is FENDER PLAY Worth It??

  • In this video we take a look at Fender Play. The online guitar learning platform made by Fender! I've been seeing a lot of ads for Fender Play lately, and figured i'd look into what it is.
With an enormous number of online guitar learning resources available, it can be hard to figure out which one works best for you. Fender play offers multiple tools including song tutorials, and "my path", an online guitar course based on your learning preferences.
I was curious how fender play would compare to yousician and rocksmith... and it's not a game. A better comparison is justin guitar. Both courses are formatted similarly offering guitar lessons for absolute beginners to more advanced players. Fender play however doesn't get very advanced, and is focused more on beginner guitar techniques.. It's all in the video lol.
    Links: www.fender.com...
    www.justinguit...
(I recommend justin guitar, but the fender play 14 day trial is potentially worth looking at)

Actually it's not ..IMO&E. I started out on Justin Guitar. Today JustinGuitar.com is neither free nor the best, but if it seems that way to you, enough said.
What it is good for is 'testing the water' when you first start out as a beginner with his *limited* free access material, but anyone who persists with guitar beyond his cowboy chord lessons will discover before long that to access the meat in the stew requires payment. Previously it was buy Justin Guitar books per module (expensive from outside outside the UK). Now its a modular subscription model similar to Jamplay.
Having tried the three major sites along with alternative others and You Tube, Justin Guitar's formerly more culturally conventional English orientated teaching methodology I liked, but in its latest incarnation revamp, behind the visual facelift, he is dumbing the presentations down to to the lowest common mass market IQ denominator clearly targeting today's dominant McDemographic.
Whilst it does follow a US culturally orientated teaching style, *if I'm paying* and I am putting my money where my mouth is with an annual subscription model, *Guitar Tricks* is the #1 clear winner hands down. Comprehensive and professional with *an all inclusive package* representing superior value. Whilst inarguably Justin Guitar does have useful tools and material within its free access which I co-access regularly, it's mcmodule approach is very much now just like Jamplay without the glam visuals and hero worship.
No "Would you like fizzy drink or fries with your McFat burger today" scripted flim flam value adding for me thanks. Pass me the meat 'n taters please.

Fender Play keeps it light, breezy and fun. Love the way lessons are organized and the way Fender Play provides a consistent and structured environment to learn guitar. It really makes it's easy to learn at your own pace and keep track of your achievements. They sometimes put their annual plan on deal for 50% off so a one year subscription can be had for as little as 45 bucks.

I'm a total newbie who tried both. I love fender more because it teaches you one chord and then teaches one song that uses it. In addition, all the videos gets harder gradually. You can actually feel your own process. It is better to learn one chord in a song and use it in a song with the ones you learned before. So, you can learn a chord, compare it with other chords and improve your transicion and muscle memory.
I liked JustinGuitar and Marty Music but similar to other online guitar courses, I find myself holding the guitar and not playing it. Most teachers just talk about the guitar, the pick, reading the tab, ways to play better... They show either one chord or all the chords in one video without any sample music. I cannot learn all of the chords at the same time. And, I cannot learn one chord just by playing that only one chord without any music. The others gets repetitive a lot, which is too boring.

I like it so far. Finishing Level 1 now. I have used all sorts of resources, in-person lessons included, but what i am discovering is that it all comes down to your desire. Sure, in-person would have worked long term if i put the time in. Sure, Justin could teach me if i committed to following his videos. It all comes down to choice. I have been working at home for a year and tired of staring at my guitar hanging on the wall and not having someone to play it well. So i recently joined Fender Play. I am past my 2 week trail and just finishing level1. So what? I’m also a lefty playing righty, so what? Everyone’s Path is different, and for different reasons too. I like the format. I like the structure. I am learning all over again, which is fine by me cause i need to work on technique. Again, I’m a lefty. I paid for a year. I hope to stick with it this time. I want to. Even if vaccines make me go back to the office, my commitment is to continue to play. That’s the plan anyways. Whatever works for you, do it. Come on, $40/ year. That’s less than one bottle of decent whiskey or a nice dinner out with your +1. Make the leap. I feel this time, it’s worth it.

The lessons are 5 minutes or 15 minutes long and for busy parents and professionals it’s easy to fit in, and as it’s fender, two things you know it’s the correct technique and the resources are convenient packaged, the practice playbacks are ace. I don’t have time to trawl the internet looking for courses and this is perfect can’t recommend enough. And for completeness I have looked at Yousician and Justingutar as well still prefer fender.

I couldn't find a thorough explanation of what they offered. I couldn't tell if it was like RockSmith where you plug your guitar into the computer and it analyzes your playing--there are a lot of people plugging in guitars in the promotional videos. I was trying to find a guitar platform, my dad gave me guitar tricks and fender play, and we ended up getting an annual pass to fender play, however i thought that level 1-3 or something would be easy and 4-5 would be hard but its all super easy... im not a total beginner
I did not like guitar tricks at all

Did you mention that if you sign up for a year of Fender Play you get a 10% discount at Fender on line and at participating dealers. I saved 177.00$. Well worth it.

Fender Play is outstanding, IMO. Right now it's 3 months free, and you don't need to provide any payment info. Remember, this is for beginners. I've been playing for a year, using various free RUclips resources, including Justin Guitar (which is good). In 3 weeks, I've gotten through 2 of the 5 levels and have improved a lot.
Redlight Blue is wrong about part of his review. A beginner cannot get through all of this in two weeks, unless they are a guitar prodigy. This is setup in a way that it can help many users learn to PLAY guitar, rather than learn to play a song. Each lesson has a module that is an instructor lead tutorial, followed by a module that consists of tab with a click track of that tutorial. It's done in a way that encourages repeated drilling of the concepts until you get it right.
On the downside, the instructors are a bit dry. That may not suit everyone. What is nice, however is that when you don't feel like going through new lessons or repeating old ones to get concepts down, there is a decent library of songs and riffs setup in the same format: tutorial, then tab for drilling. All things considered, for 90 days free it's fantastic. And once my 90 days are up, I'll go right over to Justin Guitar and will pick up at where ever my playing level at that time dictates.
