Hey thanks for a great explanation
Thanks for that video!
Most comprehensive video thus far for this job and car!
For popping out the gold rod, I experimented with various tool lengths, angling, and access points. This worked fastest for me, especially when the actuator on the other side also needed to be replaced. And this second time around, I didn't spray my garage with grunting and cursing haha
- used 8" groove-joint pliers (wrapped with duct tape several times to prevent marring of the rod and esp the plastic bushing we're popping it out from)
- went in from the side/bottom (previously tried and failed going in from the top window gap)
- angled the pliers so the stationary/longer jaw contacted was on tip of the rod, and the sliding/shorter jaw was on the plastic bushing holding the rod
- squeezed until it popped out
For the #3 Phillips bolts, I completely stripped 1 of 3 the first time, even with an impact driver, and spent hours drilling/tapping it out. This time, I sprayed them with WD-40 and let sit for a few min prior to removing. Penetrating oil or valve grinding compound would work even better.
Thanks, this was helpful! What I did to get the gold rod out:
1. Spray the end of the rod generously with WD-40
2. Use a flathead to rotate the plastic clip/bushing off the rod and out of the way
3. Grab the end of the gold rod with pliers (I used Stanley 84-097) and PULL HARD, you will think you are going to break something.
Also take care to reassemble everything correctly- take pictures before and after at every step. Reassembly is very easy as long as everything is lined up correctly as you reinstall. I added a bit of grease to the rod ends during reassembly to make everything go a little easier.
Hint: If your door won't close after reinstall, pull the exterior door handle to "reset" the latch
i did this months ago and didn’t end up reinstalling correctly and now i’m stuck with a door that can’t open from the inside, going to attempt to fix that tomorrow.
My fear lol
Thank you, SO MUCH, for this video. Yes...the gold rod is a PITA! I had to use pry force, not pull force. That whole assembly is a mousetrap, but everything I expect out of a latch assembly. I had to change the power actuator. I even have the factory service manual, and it left me clueless. I am thankful that Acura had a modestly big door opening to access this area.
Just bought a DC5 RSX two days ago and I'm having the same problem. Thanks for the video. It's time to mess around with these cars at the junkyard. Looks a little complicated. I may have to hire someone. Where did you buy your actuators from.
Rockauto ??
Bro I have a question did you straight wrap the the leather panel of the door?
Hey bro I’m about to redo my door panel with a cool fabric I found and I have a few questions! What adhesive spray did you use? And did you stay the fabric or the door, or both? And also did you add it directly onto the fake leather material or did you remove that first?
I think I used the 3M headliner adhesive. And I didn't take off the door inserts I left them on to give it that plush soft feel.
Right on thanks Seth!
god i hate doing door stuff. dreading doin this but getting sick of useing my key
Wow.. I was doing my head unit and my actuators took a dump. What a pain in the A$$.
Thanks for the video
I have a different problem, my driver side door is stuck in the unlocked position so it never locks at all, even when I use the key it doesn't lock nor when I try pushing the tab down its literally stuck. Any suggestions on why that is?
Like the tab doesn't go down at all it sucks
Thanks for taking the time to make this video. Wish I had it first time I had to replace one of the little bastages! This was great review before replacing a short-lived eBay one today though.
I can feel my hatch trying to open and close but it doesn’t and my doors do nothing.... sure it’s this ? Should I check for fuses
Ek Leo my does the same thing but the trunk only locks and unlocks both doors don’t lock or unlock
Yes it the actuator
Hey Seth, where’d you get those leather panels? they’re dope
Arden Balcos I bought the fabric and wrapped them myself. Was thinking about making a video the next time I change it out.
Seth Lee ah, that explains why I couldn’t find any online. Thanks for the update Seth and keep up the good content!
Cheers bro for the good tutorial ;)
Great video keep em coming !! 🙏🏼
Andy Quijada Thanks bro! 👊🏼
Hey where did u get that floral wrap paper for the car?
Thanks for your this video. I changed my actuator today. Your video made it a lot easier to do.
Been 2 Da Moon what did you do for the 3 screws to prevent stripping and what method did you use for the cables doing it all by hand with a Philips is probably my first mistake but unsure how much for I could use pulling these cables
How to remove door handle
Dang with this gold rod how much pressure is to much and just pulling it back is the proper way right? My only struggle with this project
Nick Velazquez it takes a good bit of pressure to pop it out. In the past I’ve used a pair of needle nose vice grips to pop it out.
Good video I just need help with the three screws mine are tight and somewhat stripped :/
Irwin Marin I had to use a fat tip screwdriver and apply a lot force so it wouldn’t strip.
Seth Lee interesting I’m at harbor freights buying an impact screwdriver. Think it’ll work ?
Irwin Marin yeah that should get them out
Hey Seth! Didn’t know you had a RUclips channel, haha. Did this on my last RSX. Those rods are a serious pain in the ass. But a pry bar makes it so much easier. Subscribed!
Thanks bro! And you ain't lying
Where did u get the fabric in the door pannels
Adam Sobers I bought it off fabric.com lol
Adam Sobers what’s the name of the fabric?
Jenny Valdez Cherry Blossom Branches: Black Japanese Fabric (By the Half Yard)
I found it on eBay
Hey seth!! Got any tips on how to cover the leather panel on the door panels? Were you able to unscrew and remove The Who thing from the door panel before wrapping it? I appreciate the info!👌
angus L. The only part that comes off is the armrest/handle. And you’ll have to take the whole door panel off to take it off.
Thanks bro
Hey man where did you buy the plugs for the holes for the oem rear spoiler?
bhadz100 I actually bought them from autozone. They’re screw style rivet fasteners.
I just bought some of that dope ass panel trip for my 06👌
Where from?
How did you get that design on the door?
nice work on the actuator, door rods are a pain
J Nguyen I hate them man, took me a year to get it done.
using a flat head as leverage on the first rod helps pop it out (after twisting the plastic piece)
J Nguyen yeah needle nose pliers work well too
Looks Better like that
On my 02 type s the passenger door does not lock/unlock with key fob. Could it be the driver side lock actuator?
Jose Martinez does it lock/unlock from the switch inside the car?
Seth Lee no
its the keyless entry receiver
Yo Seth I'm subscribed to your channel man u make sum good vids ur front spliter and canards video makes me wanna follow ur method on my 2000 Honda accord coupe seen this video tho and was wondering where u found ur door panel fabric I need to know!!! Bad brother like bad so plz comment back plz
steven reynolds Thanks bro! It’s been a while but I believe I bought this one from fabric.com
That one rod was really a pain in the ass!
High-key I just needed to replace my speakers for my rsx on the front door panels but I'm thankful for the door panel removal tutorial
Great tutorial. I just changed both my drivers and passenger side actuators today and this video definitely helped. Taking it apart is a pain but putting it back is relatively straight forward. I recommend taking a picture of the assembly when you take it out before replacing the actuators so you know where everything goes since there are many important small details..
Also for the gold rod (hardest part) what helped me was making the rod opening wet with wd40 and just continuously pushing the plastic clip around the rod with a flat head until it was out of the way. Once you do this it will come out easy.. most cases it's so hard because of how old and rusted the metal is.
Wiper delete is WHACK. I can't find any sense in people stating "It looks cleaner." Eliminating a useful function of the car makes it look better ? When I see a wiper deleted I ask myself "How does that improve the vehicle ?" It doesn't. It looks silly. Japanese install rear wiper blades to be helpful. American car companies should take a hint from this. It's one of the reasons I like foreign brand hatchbacks. Because they have rear wiper blades ! It's useful when it rains...
Deleting the rear wiper does improve aero of the car but I mainly did it for looks. And I don't think I even used it when it was raining. I used it more when there was condensation from sitting out over night. But I see and understand your point.
William Levy actually. I’m siding with the “cleaner look” then your thoughts about whether it looks “whack” or not . Again, it’s personal preference whether someone wants to delete the rear wiper or not and your choice if it looks wack or not. My reason to delete the rear wiper is. It’s just stupid to have a rear wiper on any car or suv! Makes no sense to wipe a small area of the window and I never once used it in my suv or my Rsx. I actually removed the fuse to the rear wiper...any thoughts on that ??? Well it doesn’t matter cause again, my choice 😝😛😎
@@B_HarTz I own TWO RSX-Type-S's and the only thing I've done is replace the wiper when they eroded due to age. Agree with the statement that the small area they wipe is a loss compared with using a product like Rain-x or my recent ceramic coating the rear glass. Rainy season is about over for coastal Southern California, but I've found a protected glass surface is so much better than using the rear wiper. Also agree this comes down to personal preference, but I think the list of reasons to not have the rear wiper FAR outweigh even having the arm and having to replace the wiper blade when they fall victim to the elements. While William is entitled to his opinion, it's just that...and opinion. Cheers to all of us DC-5 owners! - Andrew J.
The one thing I needed to see was you inscrewing the damn thing.. and you didnt show it 🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️😡. Mines wont come out and the screws are gonna strip
Outcast Performance , LLC you need a special Japanese made screw driver , because they have less of a shallow screw head compared to American.. look for an impact screw driver preferably! It will make your life way easier when working on a Jdm car especially Honda. I found it cheap on amazon
Can barely hear you or am I going deaf
BLacK HarTz shoddy mic
Seth Lee I’ll use my headphones when I actually gotta do this. But actually sounds fine, hmm, my driver and passenger alternate locking and unlocking with the remote but lately the passenger doesn’t seem to unlock all the way up, should I replace both driver and passenger ?
Seth Lee 10 min into this video, I deff don’t trust myself doing all that lol 😆
BLacK HarTz lol if you decide to replace one do the driver side first. The driver side actuator is like the master actuator and relays to the others. So sometimes when it’s going bad it causes the others to act up.
Seth Lee will do thanks 👍👍
The gold rod give me some problem. Once it was off, It was easy on and off, it be nice if you show the gear, because once I was finish, the gear off and I have to do it twice. Lol. Great video!!
