I was living up in Cairns in the early 2000's and got to see all of the Lions games on TV thinking 'I would be happy to see Geelong win one, never mind three', never thinking three would happen. Well done, too good.
after that game, I too was thinking "here we go again" and thinking it was going to be a rebuilding phase in some ways... They then recruited VERY VERY well with players like Prestiaand the other two....and that was all that was needed. Hardwick says he "returned to basics and what made him coach his best" and it all just clicked. I never thought 4 years later I would have seen 3 flags... never. But its happened and Im over the moon
I feel so bad for Gary Ablett, honestly he deserved so much more in his career than being at the suns Then finally joining a good team in 2018 and consistently only making prelims and when he finally made a gf he gets injured in the first few minutes. I’m an American I moved to Australia when I was 12 years old forced to learn new sports I didn’t like cricket was so boring. It was so easy but Footy oh my goodness did I fall in love with that game I fell in love with the Richmond Tigers being from Cleveland. I’m used to losers. I live a very humble life, but those three grand finals were some of the greatest moments of my life.
I've just discovered this sport. Footba- I mean, British football - is my favourite game but this is spectacular! It's like a giant Coliseum of manic gladiators trying to kill each other with their bare hands! But if you catch the ball you're protected - everyone has to stop. But wow it's rough.
@@adamaviation6236 I think all games in which handball is a good thing should not be called football. :D Football has been called football forever in Britain. All the other games have to attach a label, ok? :D
Richmond are undoubtedly the best club in the competition by far now, especially as they played almost no home games this season (to all those who say they can only win at the MCG). And then Dusty is just a freak! Wow
yep, when they won the 2017 the flogs were saying it was ALL due to playing on the MCG. Same as 2019...... They will now find a new excuse rather than concede Richmond are actually a powerhouse... and yes, Dusty is a freak.
Indeed. In addition to your point, the shortened quarters, given the tigers playing style was probably a disadvantage to them and hence another reason to admire their achievment this year.
@Matthew Grossman haven't heard much about Dangerfields elbow to vlastuin face. Can you imagine the uproar if Lynch had of done that. Tigers 2020 premieres.
@@raylight3961 not even a free kick. Let’s give Dangerfield the benefit of the doubt and say it wasn’t intentional, it’s still high contact, gotta be a free kick bare minimum. And they say Richmond has the umps on side? What a joke.

Such a brutal contest. I thought Geelong had the Tigers at half time but Richmond's second half showed what a champion team they are. Dusty should wear a cape as I am fairly certain that he is Batman. He is unbeatable in a one-on-one contest.
Did we all forget how good this bloke is on Richmond.. Dusty Martin.. He is un stop able . its like every single time he has the ball something good happens am i right.. he is just too good for AFL. He willnever be forgotten
Anyone know if Dangerfield made it out of the change rooms at half time? Once again, he goes missing in a big game. The guy is a dead set front runner. Loves his 30 touches and 3 goals against minnows like North and Essendon, but is too often missing in big games for Geelong. A very overrated footballer.
As a Richmond fan, Dangers always been one of those players you just have to respect but my lord does he go missing in big games. It seems the pressure just gets to him and he panics. He starts throwing his body around in contests stops touching the ball it’s a shame as a footy lover but I love it as a Richmond fan.
Agree, Dangerfield is overated, a flash in the pan, one of the AFL poster boys. Most of his play is useless, he looks flashy, but he doesnt create much down field. He is always getting tackled in tight clinches. Im praying for the day when Guthrie gets a haircut.. Jesus, son look the part will ya.
Congratulations Garry Ablett on a fantastic career easily the best player I have ever watched. 2 brownlows, 2 premierships. Great Job and best of luck for the future Gazza.
Very happy tiger fan tonight! I kind of understand the hate, and the feeling of neutrals wanting someone else to win. But this tigers team aren't really thugs - they're just tough AF! They're just a bloody good footy team with one of the all time greats in midfield/forward doing his thing. So proud of the team :)
Tigers are an amazing team but tom Lynch has to go, tbh I hope he gets suspended for the entirety of next season, every week he gets away with bashing people and his worst punishments are just $1000 fines with no effect
@@themaster7552 because nothing has warranted anything other than a fine...yes i am sure he angers other teams supporters but if he got suspended for any of those acts that would be utter BS...In the 80's if they were suspending for that stuff they wouldnt have enough players for a competition..

Joel Selwood in this very game shoves his hand/elbow into Liam Baker's face after a tackle and well after the footy had left the area. But as dog as it is to do it I wouldn't want to see Selwood even fined
I feel really bad for Gary Ablett that this was his last game and that he got injured within the first few seconds of the game and that he couldn't finish it on a Grand Final win and I'm not even a Geelong or a Richmond supporter hopefully this won't be the end of the Ablett legacy and somewhere down the bloodline someone will follow in his footsteps and be just as good if not better than him and also Dusty played brilliantly by far the best in the whole league

I am a fan of rugby union and American football. Today I found another code of football so fast, strong, skillful, and exciting! Cheers from Japan! I'll watch the AFL games this year.
First things first. Congratulations to Richmond. A year filled with devastation across the globe and in Australia. Away from Melbourne for nearly 4 months have been the club that standing out for the past few months. Secondly, for a guy that seen so much success in a small amount of time (5 Grand Finals in 8 years) you always think the team is on top of the world. And doing some you know eventually once you reach the top of the mountain, the only way is down. In doing so you sacrifice staff over the years. In doing so Clarko has created and established many of his Assistant Coaches and managers into AFL Coaches. Fagan, Bolton, Beverdige, Simpson, Ratten, Cameron and Hardwick. Something that only deepens his legacy and creation of proteges. Something that he has kept alive since the 2013 Grand Final to today. 8 years straight he has had either himself or a protege winning a flag. Something I can look up to after a poor season. Thirdly. Damien Hardwick. This guy has changed the way Richmond played after struggling with consecutive final losses. Even what’s happened this year with the incidents you could tell Richmond were undisciplined to an extent, thanks to today’s social media and internet. Even rumours that Hardwick wanted to leave and was going to get sacked due to these circumstances. Believe it or not it has happened. But never gave up and got that chance in 2017. Then... we’ll you know what happens next. And be appreciative that the Season was so close to being pulled due to the COVID that has occurred. Especially how people talked about how the season still continued while people lost their businesses, loved ones to Covid or mental health and heading into a possible recession, thinking why has it still continued while people are getting battered with this crisis. It’s gone past the stage with the season ending now. But what’s happened, has happened. It’s a shame as well that we lost the Grand Final this year to Queensland. Disappointed the tradition has been broken, last one held outside the G was in 1991 at Waverley Park. And Finally, Ablett. Wasn’t the fairytale ending he was looking for but Farewell little master. One of the greatest players to play in the AFL Era. Despite giving us Hawk fans nightmares and being a bother in close encounters but got one better in 2013 Prelim Final. I know most people won’t read this but thanks if you do and have a great rest of 2020 and be safe. Counting down to the 2021 and the Season. PS: Something my father told me when we won three in a row. “Enjoy the ride, while you can”. Here’s one from me: “Don’t be sad Hawthorn Fans because it’s over Smile because it happened” 😉
Ugh Same old Story! Thanks for Trying Cats, u played well in the 1st Half but the Tiges are still strong! Nothing's changed with the AFL & I just can't take it anymore the Tiges broke my heart & everyone's heart! IS THIS WHAT U WANTED AFL??? Please stay safe everyone! 🙏🙏🙏
You have a broken heart because they pushed through and won the game!? It was sad that gary didn’t get to leave with a win but he had a great send off with both teams and the crowd cheering him off the field. The tiges were just the better team on the day, they didn’t do anything to personally attack you. The afl doesn’t have an impact on who wins or loses, only the umpires and the players do. Maybe some of their calls were a bit off but that’s just footy.
Is it fair to acknowledge that Toby Nankervis is a truly great ruckman now, not just a 'workhorse' taking the load in the ruck? The way he plays around the ball is like another midfielder in there and he takes big important marks consistently when he drops back. Amazing that he has gone from a fringe player at the Swans to a triple premiership winning Richmond legend in 4 seasons since arriving in 2017. Prestia also came on board in that off season and Jack Graham arrived as an 18 yo from Adelaide. These guys have known nothing but success at Richmond and it's safe to say that all the triple premiership players are Tiger heroes forever and some of them are legends. Cotchin and Martin are comfortably both already in the top 10 Tigers ever, probably the top 5. Dusty will end up at #1 ahead of them all.
I am an absolutely clueless American that knows nothing about this sport but it looks incredible. It almost seems like a mixture of rugby, soccer, volleyball, and whatever else the world has to offer.

It was so heartbeaking to see Ablett go out like that . Very emotional when he was with is family. He has had a year from hell with his son. Lets not forget though he won a Grand Final in 2007 with the Cats. I am an Eagles supporter from WA but have been in melbourne all year. This sounds weird but I was almost glad to see two Victorian teams in the final. It was the only joy for Victorians all year and it showed how tough Victorians are on many levels at getting through this crap year and still prevailing on the big day. Nobody else really gets it unless you have been in Lockdown for 8 months.
Amazing game of football and another great premiership win by the Tigers, but I must say it was very sad to see two players viciously knockout out cold + Gary doing his shoulder in his last game of a great career.
Not only did this game end the Dusty v Danger debate, it showed that one is a genuine match winning superstar, the other a player who plays for frees by flopping like a fish and goes missing for half a game.
@@ThotslayFeetusdeletus nope, just the head to head record of the 2 in finals. They've played 3 finals together and Dusty has been close to or BOG in all of them while Danger constantly goes missing for a supposed superstar. Dusty also a 3x Norm Smith and best finals series player winner - something Danger has never done himself. When the pressure goes up during the business season, Dusty is by far the better player. I know who I'd prefer as a Hawks fan.
@@TheAlphaDingo of the 3 times Geelong and Richmond have clashed in a final Dangerfield has been the better player with only one time did Dustin Martin rank higher in game stats also norms smith require you to be the best average of 4 games overall while all Australians require you to be the best 22 in the league on average the entire season which one is harder play 5 good matches or play 22 good matches
@@ThotslayFeetusdeletus Curious where you are getting your stats from because you are wrong unless you are looking at fantasy points? Danger butchered the ball in typical Danger fashion in 2017 going at 45%. Yeah he may have had 31 touches but if nearly half of those are clangers and turnovers, he is doing more harm than good. Google any of the match reports and you’ll see Martin mentioned as the best on field. 2019 PF: Dusty injured in first quarter and still finishes with 22 and 2 goals in a tight game. Danger played well in the first half and got a soft free kick goal but was then not seen again. Again, go read up on the match reviews or player ratings. No need to mention the 2020 GF as that was as dominant a display as you could see. Being good in a 22 game season is all well and good but you play footy to win premierships and to do that, you need to win finals. Dangerfield may be a decent player during less pressure filled games but in finals, he goes to custard. The truly best players of any code will stand up in the biggest moments and that is something Dangerfield has never done and likely never will.

Richmond couldn't win away from their home ground the MCG, all their premierships in recent years were basically handed to them! What on earth do the critics and naysayers have to say now, that Richmond has won away from home for more than 3 mths??? West Coast, Brisbane & Port bombed out of the finals and on their respective home grounds & by Victorian teams. They had their own beds to sleep in their own grounds to play on & they let it slip out their hands. The best team of the year rose to the occasion and won the flag. One of the most amazing Grand Final achievements in History! YELLOW AND B(L)ACK TO BACK! GO TIGERS
It’s basically just a year for non-Victorian teams, since every year it’s usually the Victorian teams who have that favour, especially MCG teams, since when they play other Victorian teams like geelong, they force them to play at MCG even if it’s a geelong home game.
Agreed, Port and Brisbane choked this year. Both had good injury runs, barely travelled all year, home ground in the finals and they both blew it, especially Brisbane. I said they were pretenders last year and they still are. Lots of talent in that team but not much spine under pressure.
What a game to watch. I have my main team but Tigers are my #2 and have been since 2017. Just happy for this team and Dusty. Not as good as their Port game last week but this win means the most. Good job, Tigers!

Bruce's commentary in the moment dusty broke Dangerfields tackle was so piss poor, he was already talking over the moment. Way past it, that moment needed a JB or BT, Darcy.. someone that would have legitimately gone ballistic.

Not only did this game end the Dusty v Danger debate, it showed that one is a genuine match winning superstar, the other a player who plays for frees by flopping like a fish and goes missing for half a game.

Dusty in his prime and Abletts last game, brings a tear in my eye to see that moment pasd
Good tough match, & props to Richmond - they're the most committed team in the comp at the moment - no selfish wannabes - just everybody on the same page helping their team mates.
& Dustin Martin is the best finals player since Adelaide's Andrew McCloud..
