This is so funny because this just happened to me this week. She tried to demand a certain location. " Streak seafood or sushi". My suggestion was a simple sports bar to grab drink. It's clean and new. After she made the suggestion. I simply said I'll be at the sports bar at 7:30. See you there, she never responded. Great win for me
I had a terrible date last weekend when within 15 minutes of being in coffee place with her she started crying over her ex husband and the messy divorce she was going through. Tried to kiss me at end and said she had free house next weekend and I was thanks but no thanks. Not getting caught up in the mess for an easy lay. She kept messaging me during the week so I told her I was 100% not interested.

I was listening to 99.9 this morning on my drive to work and they had a segment asking women "Do you have a backup partner" and the amount of female call ins that so non-chalantly said they had multiple back ups incase things don't work out with their man was staggering.
These women are spinning plates like never before while men are becoming doormats and investing all their eggs in one basket. This dating market really has given all the leverage to women.
Men, never, EVER negotiate your dignity, time, and value with a woman to keep her around. Just know she already had her exit strategy planned from the moment she started dating you.

Guys, I am 100% sure that if she has genuine burning desire for you, it does NOT matter at all what you want to do on a first date. Coffee, tea, ride in your convertible roadster or on your motorcycle, walk in a nice park or trail, walk around the city, slice of pizza, cooking organic food together in your kitchen or at her place. I date beautiful, playful women. If they want to spend time with you, she will make it easy to be together.

Asking a stranger to her or your place is a no go. Women need security and safety and are looking for stalker and psychopathic behaviors always. And that's the thing too, I think the current mentality of I want everything now and not have to work for it across the board also touches on the dating market and the demands that women create. The concept of earn it or having to be in a certain position to receive benefits is just evaporated.
I noticed hiking wasn’t on the list. Hiking with a picnic on a summer day is solid. If she likes that that is when you can slip it in her.

The purpose of the fist date is to decide if you want to have a second, third, and so on. This should really be simple and low stress. You're just meeting ideally in a low stress environment to get to know each other a little. Coffee of drinks is perfect for this. It doesn't need to be fancy and if she demands you spend lots of money on a woman you just met she's already telling you what kind of woman she is on that first date.

I never wanted to go to an upscale restaurant with a man I didn’t know. I’d hate to be stuck having a long dinner in a nice place with someone who was strange, had bad manners, or the conversation didn’t flow. It would be very awkward and embarrassing.

or if its a nice day, the local park. toss a blanket, and a cooler of various drinks (that you like) in the trunk,
go for a nice stroll and/or sit at park bench or table. if its going swell, offer the blanket and drinks as a nice transition into a more quasi-romantic setting for the latter part of the date.

Second was a burrito place followed by a 3 hour walk through down town.
The 3rd date was an Opeth concert and he bought me a band hoodie.
Over 8 years and 3 kids later, still happily together. I hope Opeth comes by for another tour.

Was recently talking to a girl -- very good conversation for two whole days... walls of text and two hour-long phone calls. She tells me she needs to get to know me a lot more before we meet (That's a new one... most girls want to meet vs text for weeks). I used the term "sniff test" in describing meeting in person to see if there's a connection 😆 ... surprise, she hated that term and things ended. Time saved, I guess

Whoever is paying for the date decides where it will be and how much money will be spent. I read a ridiculous story in the Wall Street Journal a few years ago about a woman who would go on dates with guys she had no interest in just to eat at the finest restaurants in New York City. The men (suckers) paid for the meal not realizing they had no chance with her. She admitted she did this at least 4 times per week because on her salary she would never be able to afford to eat at these fancy places.

coffee and a stroll down by the beach is the perfect first date. I went on a first date a few months back and we ended up spending 6hrs together and felt like 1, probably way too long but it was a great date.
The list started from a video of a woman that spent extra hours getting ready for reservations that the guy ended up missing went with a back-up plan and it pissed her off. The girl in that video is pretty much worth either Taco Bell or hot dogs from the gas station. Dude was going to waste his money at a five-star restaurant when she would have violated the dress code with her outfit

I met my wife at a blind date. The evening went well, she didn’t talk that much and I didn’t think she would want to see me again. It was midnight when we left our mutual friends house when she came to me and said that she really enjoyed the time and that she wanted to meet me again. I was shocked. A couple of days later. I invited her to my place for lunch. She immediately offered to bring a camembert and French baguette. There again, I was shocked because most girls never offered to bring something. We’ve been married for 18 years. I know I will never find another woman like her. My message to all the guys out there, if it doesn’t feel right it’s probably because it isn’t. Don’t waist your time with a woman who has a desire for expensive places on a first date.

Totally agree with this. If any girl is already making the process difficult by putting demands and barriers instead of being excited to develop your guys’ chemistry then it’s best to move on respectfully. As they say become the best version of yourself and attract the girls of higher caliper to yourself and then pick from the ones who are already interested instead of forcing a connection when a girl is simply just wanting attention or money.
I went on about 25 dates from apps before finding a gf in the real world. Of the 25, I’d 22-23 straight up catfished me. Do not ever plan anything extravagant, you need to actually see them before that is a consideration.
Secondly, about half the time they bail last minute anyway because they either get nervous about the fact they’re catfishing you, or they found a “better” option.

There’s an important distinction if it’s a dating app date. If you haven’t met in person the first date has to be short, half of these people don’t even resemble their profiles. It’s in women’s best interest too not to be locked into a 3HR dinner with someone they haven’t met before.

As a woman, I agree with Rich's advice. A short meeting over coffee is ideal - you know pretty quickly if you are attracted to the person or not. And if not, there is no reason to continue seeing them. Nothing worse than being stuck with someone you just met and having to carry the conversation so that you can exit gracefully. I also won't talk to men on the phone before the meet. I've done that in the past - went well on the phone and fell apart at the meet. Very awkward.
I remember Rich giving us an example a while back on how this chick said she's better than a coffee date but Rich said if she was asked out by Brad Pitt for coffee she wouldn't say no then..
I find it funny how frequently women think they have control over things they have absolutely no control over but we also know that women don't know what they want and they will tell you one thing but mean something else or they will say they don't like something but they will still do it. Honestly, who cares what they want when it comes to a first date. That's not their choice
I am a single, never married woman and I have always liked inexpensive dates. The women who made these demands are idiots. My best dates have always been absolutely free dates. I enjoy things like free concerts or walks in a park. I have noticed that men who take me on expensive dates expect sex after the date. I have never been promiscuous so I definitely don't want to go on a first date in which the man has spent lots of money.
Lots of women feel the way that I feel. Men that meet women who believe that expensive dates are mandatory are not sincere. An expensive date is something that you do with someone that you have known for awhile.

I am past my prime but I preferred inexpensive dates even when I was in my prime.
I didn't date in high school because I was young and innocent plus I was painfully shy and wasn't interested in dating.
When I was a college freshman, older men would come to the college to get dates with young coeds. I accepted a date with an extremely attractive, wealthy, older man. He took me on a very expensive but boring date. Because he spent so much money on the date, he assumed that I was going to have sex with him. I was a virgin who definitely didn't want to have sex with an older man that I didn't know. I eventually lost my virginity two years later after going on inexpensive dates with my boyfriend for a year. We eventually broke up because we were both immature but I learned from my failed relationship that I had more fun going on inexpensive or free dates than I did on expensive dates.
After I graduated from college it was easy for me to get dates. During my 20s, I normally went on several dates a week. I preferred the inexpensive or free dates to the expensive dates because men that take you on expensive dates normally expect sex. This is when I discovered that many men are hypocrites. Men liked me because I was an attractive woman with a low body count but men hated me if they spent money on dates without sex.
When I entered my 30s, I became really popular with men because I looked a decade younger than my actual age. My mother, father, and only brother died when I was in my 30s and I gradually stopped dating. My only sister died when I was in my 40s. I didn't date again until I was in my early 50s when I reunited with a man that I had dated in the past. He spent a lot of money on me and I felt obligated to have sex with him. We eventually stopped dating and went our separate ways.
I am now 68 and in spite of my advanced age I still have men in my life that want to date me but I turn them down. Ironically men my age are willing to spend a lot of money on a date because they assume that I will be so grateful for the expensive date that I will have sex. In my old age, I have absolutely no interest in sex. I have never really been very sexually active so I would prefer to go on either inexpensive or free dates in which sex is not required. Maybe I am weird or maybe I am asexual but I am not looking for a sexual relationship.
In recent weeks I have had several men ask me out on expensive dates. I declined the dates because the men don't really want me, they want sex.
I was never demanding on dates even when I was young and cute. I never thought that I was attractive but in my 20s I went on frequent dates. I learned that when men spent lots of money, sex was expected. I had to really know and like my date to agree on going on an expensive date.
When I was in my mid 20s I actually dated a millionaire. He wined me and dined me because he thought that I was beautiful and he assumed that I was a virgin. I enjoyed his company but I wasn't interested in a permanent relationship. Since he was rich, I didn't feel bad about going on expensive dates with him. I was very shy and demure plus I had dated several of his friends without anything remotely sexual happening. The millionaire actually asked me to marry him because he assumed that I was an innocent virgin. I explained that I was a sexual novice but that I wasn't a virgin. I also told the man that I would only marry for love and that I wasn't in love with him.
He offered to buy me a designer wardrobe and take me on expensive vacations. I did not love the man so I told him I didn't need or want his money. We went our separate ways and I lost track of him.
I am now 68 years old and I admit that I am no longer in my prime. I have actually stopped dating because men my age want to spend money on me because they assume that if they spend money on me that I will have sex with them. I still get frequent requests for dates but I turn them all down. The bad thing about being old is the fact that men assume that I have "hit the wall" and that I am desperate for sex. The opposite is true. I have always had a low libido but now that I am old I have no libido.
Having numerous men ask me out on dates in recent weeks prompted this additional response to your comment.

Asked her out if we could walk around our neighborhood as she lived only less than a mile from me. She refused, and suggested that she would prefer to walk at the coastline of San Francisco which was about a 30 minute drive from where we lived. Not that I agreed to travel to begin with but the fact that she didn’t even offer to split the gas to begin with already raised a red flag and knowing that she was only doing everything for her own interests and not for both of us.

I usually have plans for the first part of the night that I disclose to her, and then depending on how comfortable we become with each other we can find our way through the night. I never sex of the first date, but I do get close most of the time. Second or third dates are open doors and that is where we as men become unresistable.
I totally agree. My wife passed and I thought all women were good. I stupidly started paying for dinners. They didn't give a shit about about the dinner and several never even thanked me. Coffee or drink is all they get today
My advice is to make the woman work to get that first date with you. If she isn't demonstrating much interest then she will fall by the wayside and you will save yourself a waste of time money and from a likely rejection. Try to find out more about her. See how she reacts when you place boundaries. The goal should be a relationship with the woman not get one who flakes after one coffee date.

Art museum, zoo, musical theater, walk in the park, hockey game, paddleboarding, movie theater, or arcade bar are what I lean towards. I live in St Louis, the first four are free. The back ones don't cost more than 40 all in. None are food calls
That's pretty much my plan as well. I don't drink alcohol or coffee, so free to inexpensive ideas with some sort of movement is my go-to.
Winter time plenty of rinks or ponds to skate on and grab hot chocolate after.

Just ask them to walk in the park or a short hike. Have a coffee shop or bar nearby that you can spontaneously find yourself at.
I solved the problem. I absolutely under no circumstances ask anyone out. I do have the luxury of being 6'3" 210lbs. very fit and tan and am from Sarasota. But I still wouldn't ask anyone out.

I am a guy, and I refuse to go to most of those places -- even when I am not on a date. However, T.G.I. Friday's, Longhorn Steak House, and Outback Steak House are not on the list. So they must be the places to go. It would be more helpful if they provided a list that are acceptable -- make them come up with the date ideas.
In most areas there are plenty of other options, like local ethnic restaurants: Chinese, Thai, Japanese, Italian, Greek, Mexican, Spanish, Indian, etc.
The purpose of a first date is to find out if you want second date. So it should be short (an hour of less), simple (nothing fancy or too expensive), and sweet (you put some thought into it).
Drive-Inn movies used to be a great place to take a girl on a first date. Unfortunately, there are very few drive-inn movie theatres left.

Coffee date is the best. It allows you an easy escape. You meet at the cafe, barely recognize her because she lied about her pics and weight, so you stay a gentleman, pay for the coffee, sit and chat, then say it was nice meeting her, walk her to the door where you tell her it was a pleasure to meet her, and go your separate ways. Yes, you're going to get a sad face and probably a nasty text or VM in a few minutes, but you're free. You dodged a bullet. Imagine sitting with the horta beast for 1.5-4 hours.

I have never had a woman balk at a first date because it was a drink or coffee-- ever. If a woman likes you they don't care where you go. When I was younger and lived in small, inexpensive apartment-- I never had a woman ask to leave or get turned off because my place wasn't fancy.
