Yes ;) Ogres soon, too. But yes. Different silhouettes make a huge difference in a fantasy MMO. Everquest for example also had "mini humans, blue humans, humans with pointy ears" but it made all the difference.
@@dreaderus Not particularly because I think they will end up appealing to different audiences. Monsters and Memories so far seems like the closest to a p99 server with a new world to explore. Evercraft is obviously very classically inspired but I think the deliberate graphical choice they've gone with may actually appeal more to people who never actually played Everquest than either of the two games, and also be a good bridge for the children of those who did. Lots of people have comment about loving playing it with their kids. Pantheon is being built more like a post 2004 game than a 1999 game. From the abilities to the art style. I think it can appeal as much to a classic wow fan as someone who loved Everquest. All that said, every single one of these games I think could potentially kneecap themselves by appealing too hard to the hardcore. The market has slid so far into casual that dropping in on the other end and demanding 100s of hours from players just to engage with the game is going to be a huge ask and will shrink the playerbases. All of them will need to find some sort of balance rather than just hoping for the same players from 1999 who had precious few options. It'll be a delicate balance of maintaining some of that classic difficulty without being too time-demanding. I don't envy any of these devs at all, its tough.
I want to love this game. I want to dedicate my time to this game. It's hard for me to test the newbie area over and over and over again because I can't dedicate enough time to get to the requisite level to experience new areas (Mad Run, Halnir, Hangor, I've never been to any of these). I wish I had hours a day to grind away levels, but I don't. The grind in this test environment has worn me down to the point that I'll just wait for EA and hope new starting areas open up so I can experience new places. Because in my opinion it's obvious casual players need not apply at this point in development.
@@Redbeardflynn Their digestive system might be different to normal humans so they might be able to live with a few worms. Have you ever eaten a fish with parasites? A family member of mine had a tape worm once 🪱
Still not convinced me yet, the races we have at the moment just look like reskinned humans. personally, I would have liked all the races to have a distinct silhouette and not just the bigger races. Still nice to have though because I rarely take an interest in fantasy games that have only humans
This is just the first iteration. Joppa has talked extensively in the past about silhouettes for races. Being a small studio forces them to make concessions initially to get content out, then iterate. The new humans are a perfect example of that. They are really good at evaluating player feedback, and the races will become more distinct and improve in future updates. Nothing is final, and 1.0 release ready yet.
In about a week a $50 pledge will let you in until servers go down for final latches before early access on December 1st. Some point in December severs will reopen for Early Access and those pledges go away. We don't have pricing for ea yet but it's been said it'll be cheaper and no sub.
@BjørnAune you've been able to play during the designated testing periods throughout this year. I believe Saturday is your next one and that goes until tests end on December 1st for the early access patch. After that it's full access for everyone in ea
@@Redbeardflynn yeah..I dont think i'll throw more money at them..the 150dollars i donated 10 years go should suffice :) and now I dont really know what the end result will be. But it is not what I had in mind.
I would never base my opinion of Indie MMOS on one studio. MMOS are even challenging for AAA studios, so unless one just gives up on the genre entirely(which I'm not interested in doing), I'm inclined to judge each on its own merit.
My biggest red flag is why are the necks so vulnerable? It also looks really bad seeing all that neck skin in contrast with everything else being covered. They should do more armor around the neck or chain mail while wearing a helmet.
Great video Red! Thank you for all that you do, but maybe stop going out of town! I'm kidding! I am happy to see the new character models in game, and can't wait for the supporter weekend to jump in and see it for myself. I still find the animations to be a bit jarring and unnatural but at this point that is not something that I want the devs to spend time worrying about. They still got a lot of things to pack in before "early access to the ongoing development" period begins.
@@Redbeardflynn Mhmm i dunno personally i don't think many people will pay attention to the capitalization and/or just knock it off as bad grammar, you could easily just add a star at the end of the name of the creature
I'd almost be in favor of them adding a gorget slot rather than just extending down the helmet or bringing up the chest piece. I think that's be cool to actually visually see what your gorget or necklace is though I imagine they'll probably just extend the chest piece up for simplicity
As much as I love EQ...that's not really how this game feels. Quite different in several aspects, right down to how you engage with combat and enemies. More like EQ2 merging with Vanguard but taking heavy spiritual influence from EQ imo. It's much more frenetic than EQ was.
I do not understand your obsession with this game? Is it because the crappy graphics reminds you of EverQuest? I mean, why don't you just play EverQuest? At this point, EverQuest is still on par with graphics with this game?
@@Redbeardflynn um again why? Same question, is it because it resembles EverQuest? Cause it looks like it's clone and I don't understand why you would find this game more appealing vs EQ if EQ has 1000x more content, other than that it is "new".
@@ADesertVoice It's not a clone which is a big reason as to why. I find the world and lore engaging, the combat loops are satisfying as is the world exploration. It feels dangerous and exciting and the sound work has been truly immerseive. I enjoy the approach to vertical progression with gear upgrades and skills. I find the addition of traversal mechanics, specficially climbing to be more of a value-added proposition than I originally thought it would be. In the most basic sense though: I login and I have fun when I do. Which is all I can ever ask of an MMO. It's also not a one or the other thing. I've been playing EQ for 20+ years and will continue to. I also Play Ultima Online on occasion, Warhammer Online, and WoW. I also try out new MMORPGs to cover them and see if just perhaps they might be good.
@@Redbeardflynn Hey man if you like it go for it. But from what I see and I'm guessing from what most people see, they don't see anything innovative or "different" in this game than as being an EQ clone. Sorry but that's just reality. If this game ever does launch, it will be a VERY NICHE game catering to old EQ players that want to feel nostalgia....because honestly, I could go play ESO or WoW and already feel that those games with all the content that it has over the years are lightyears ahead of this one. Wasn't there a recent mmorpg that had almost the EXACT feel of this game being another EQ clone? See I don't even remember it's name. It's probably a dead game by now.
@@ADesertVoice ESO and WoW would be completely different experiences. ESO has essentially a leveless system with their One Tamriel update and is a build-dependent min-max game while WoW is an end-game only focused game that breezes you through content too fast to enjoy any of it so the goal will always be that end game treadmill. Pantheon is probably closer to WoW classic and/or Vanguard than Classic EQ imo, or perhaps closer to Live EQ, just in how combat alone works with their action set and actions per minute. I wouldn't personally consider it a clone at all and hope it, EQ (an EQ3 potentially) MnM and several other in development mmos are succesful and find their audiences, and perhaps, even expand the mmo audience that has shrunk from the height of the mid to late 2000s. More choice is a good thing imo. More games to play.
Love your vids.....tired of watching joppa and crew play this game....release the damn game already. I dropped a 500 buck pledge a few yrs ago thinking IT was the year to be released. Boy was I wrong. I gave up on it, EQ forever and always.
You can play it right now if you'd like to and will be in early access in December through lvl 40 but still needs a lot more content and work tbh for a 1.0 release. With EQ, are you playing Live, Progression, Emu? What're you enjoying most? I've been told I need to try Quarm.
@Redbeardflynn I will have to check into it again. I am playing EQ on Luclin server. With EQ, I honestly think that the nostalgia keeps me involved. There is always something to do in the game. I love how the game hasn't changed over the past 25yrs for the most part. The music is amazing and nothing can touch the lore although after reading up on the outer brood xpac, it kind of sounds like the Legion invasion in WoW.
As much as I love EQ2 origins, I gotta disagree just for myself personally but I'm very happy you've been enjoying EQ2 again! Origins was the best thing they've done for that game in ages, especially disabling krono.
No Ogres, No Skar, No me, the Game is still highly suspicious to me and still seems to be the next crowfall, ever since McQaud passed the game has been going downhill thankfully theres hope on the horizon i can cope into, eq3 / monster & memories
this is never going to release it looks dated in 2024 and they have been working on this for a very very very long time and this is what it looks like they are just cash grabbing money from the kickstarter at this point hate to say but itll be dos if and when it launches
yeah after seeing the first of the video I thought oh wow when did that come out... it's crowdfunding at it's regular by the looks of it... I gave Chris Roberts 45 bucks over a DECADE ago. 😂
Out of curiosity, how much money do you think they've actually had? And how much do you think it costs to make an MMO? Bearing in mind that we don't have 100% accurate figures but we do have a general idea from communications over the years.
@@Redbeardflynn I have seen over a dozen MMOs go through development, get released and die, or never release at all. Anytime you see an MMO completely change or re-develop itself. It's dead. That has always been the outcome. And even with the new changes, the game still looks like shit. You understand that there is competition in this industry right? They are competing against all the other MMOs for playerbase. It's dead. Don't waste the money.
@@jibblecain I dont think there's been a single game that doesn't go through massive amounts of iteration throughout. WoW itself started as an MMORTS...safe to say that development re-work was a good idea, no? What is it you think that's been completely redesigned or changed in Pantheon specifically? What I don't get about the "its dead" narratives is that it normally comes from a place of personal affiliation. I don't like Throne and Liberty or their design. I think they made god awful choices and going away from Lineage lore and worldbuilding to create soemthing new was perhaps their biggest mistake beyond the monetization. But the big kicker there is that's my opinion. I do not have the authority to declare a game "dead" just because I don't like it or even me and 100 other people don't like it. There's a vast playerbase out there. It's also why I try in my videos to provide my opinion, not a tell-all fact. I've been watching and playing MMOs for 20+ years but in the end, all I've got is my half-baked opinions and even fully-informed analysts get it wrong with millions on the line.
But the point of "Wasting too much money" I was trying to make, is this has always been an incredibly underfunded project working on less than it cost to make wow 20+ years ago in a day an age when everything is infinitely more expensive. It's why the cash grab stuff never made sense to me.
I did too for a long time but the new armor and character models with this update are much closer to what it was before and after looking back at some of the old footage with the really skinny trees I've grown to like the world environment better. Feels more unique.
@MyMystakes that's not the description of vaporware. Incomplete and vaporware are different things. Can definitely say you think it'll never fully release but neither of those games fit the vaporware descriptions. By that same description you're using the cybertruck is still vaporware...which honestly I might get behind saying that 😅

I wonder if the fishmen eat worms
Oh no...I can't unsee this
@@Redbeardflynn Their digestive system might be different to normal humans so they might be able to live with a few worms. Have you ever eaten a fish with parasites? A family member of mine had a tape worm once 🪱
This is making me excited for EA since i cant afford, and honest not sure would be worth a pledge now. Will be curious to see how it does in EA.
Still not convinced me yet, the races we have at the moment just look like reskinned humans. personally, I would have liked all the races to have a distinct silhouette and not just the bigger races. Still nice to have though because I rarely take an interest in fantasy games that have only humans
Dwarves and ogres will and then later the archai, gnomes and skar. Gnomes and star will be the last ones coming in i believe
@@broquietstorm1266 thats good to know
How can I play this
In about a week a $50 pledge will let you in until servers go down for final latches before early access on December 1st. Some point in December severs will reopen for Early Access and those pledges go away. We don't have pricing for ea yet but it's been said it'll be cheaper and no sub.
@@Redbeardflynn how about those that paid 100dollars 10 years ago...are we already good to go..or?
@BjørnAune you've been able to play during the designated testing periods throughout this year. I believe Saturday is your next one and that goes until tests end on December 1st for the early access patch. After that it's full access for everyone in ea
@@Redbeardflynn yeah..I dont think i'll throw more money at them..the 150dollars i donated 10 years go should suffice :) and now I dont really know what the end result will be. But it is not what I had in mind.
@BjørnAune you don't need to spend anything else, you currently have access and will in ea as well
The art style after the change made it a hard no for me, still is, rip the money from the pax east pledge several years ago
VR team?
Visionary realms. They're rhe ones making rhe game. Should have said rhe name rather than abbreviate. Sorry
Ngl all these "indie mmo's worry me" after crowfall I don't trust a single one... Not CoE, Not AoC and barely this one
@@TrustedCharl makes sense, why believe in something that doesn't actually exist. 🤔
What crowfall did is obscene and frustrating. I get it.
@@puppethound What doesn't actually exist, specifically?
I would never base my opinion of Indie MMOS on one studio.
MMOS are even challenging for AAA studios, so unless one just gives up on the genre entirely(which I'm not interested in doing), I'm inclined to judge each on its own merit.
What is COE?
Still doesn't appeal to me. I'll come back and check the progress in another 20 years.
My biggest red flag is why are the necks so vulnerable? It also looks really bad seeing all that neck skin in contrast with everything else being covered. They should do more armor around the neck or chain mail while wearing a helmet.
I believe they are going to adjust that, it was mentioned on one of joppa's streams
@@Redbeardflynn Good to hear.
Yea they do have chainmail necks for plate and chainmail helmets, there are still items being put into game.
Pantheon looks like Everquest 2, but ks going to release so late it will be dead on arrival
EA HYPE!
😯
Great video Red! Thank you for all that you do, but maybe stop going out of town! I'm kidding! I am happy to see the new character models in game, and can't wait for the supporter weekend to jump in and see it for myself. I still find the animations to be a bit jarring and unnatural but at this point that is not something that I want the devs to spend time worrying about. They still got a lot of things to pack in before "early access to the ongoing development" period begins.
one thing that annoys me about this game, why don't monsters have capitalization
Capitalization is reserved for named to tell the difference.
@@Redbeardflynn Mhmm i dunno personally i don't think many people will pay attention to the capitalization and/or just knock it off as bad grammar, you could easily just add a star at the end of the name of the creature
Some helmets should have chainmail at the base. Every mmo I see has zero neck protection, looks so dumb.
I'd almost be in favor of them adding a gorget slot rather than just extending down the helmet or bringing up the chest piece. I think that's be cool to actually visually see what your gorget or necklace is though I imagine they'll probably just extend the chest piece up for simplicity
I want to like it, but its... and everquest clone, including the old school graphics.
As much as I love EQ...that's not really how this game feels. Quite different in several aspects, right down to how you engage with combat and enemies. More like EQ2 merging with Vanguard but taking heavy spiritual influence from EQ imo.
It's much more frenetic than EQ was.
@@Redbeardflynn hope you are right. I just want to find and mmo that captures that sense of wonder.
I do not understand your obsession with this game? Is it because the crappy graphics reminds you of EverQuest? I mean, why don't you just play EverQuest? At this point, EverQuest is still on par with graphics with this game?
Because...I like the game? 🤔
Hahahaha Cough. Ohh this is a real game.
Everquest 2 back in the Time Capsule of 2004 Looks AND Plays better than Pantheon.....
As much as I love EQ2 origins, I gotta disagree just for myself personally but I'm very happy you've been enjoying EQ2 again! Origins was the best thing they've done for that game in ages, especially disabling krono.
The color palate is still just awful. The art style could work without everything been cartoonishly blow-out and over saturated.
No Ogres, No Skar, No me, the Game is still highly suspicious to me and still seems to be the next crowfall, ever since McQaud passed the game has been going downhill thankfully theres hope on the horizon i can cope into, eq3 / monster & memories
They overpromised while Brad was alive. Looks like they can pull off what they promised now, things are finally on track.
Brad wanted the game to release 5 years ago. Think about that for a second. It would have ended up like Vanguard.
this is never going to release it looks dated in 2024 and they have been working on this for a very very very long time and this is what it looks like they are just cash grabbing money from the kickstarter at this point hate to say but itll be dos if and when it launches
yeah after seeing the first of the video I thought oh wow when did that come out... it's crowdfunding at it's regular by the looks of it... I gave Chris Roberts 45 bucks over a DECADE ago. 😂
There are soooo many easier ways to cash grab. Like starting a yt channel 😉
This game is dead in the water man. They have wasted way too much money.
The artstyle change is so disgusting. I miss the old artstyle.
I did too for a long time but the new armor and character models with this update are much closer to what it was before and after looking back at some of the old footage with the really skinny trees I've grown to like the world environment better. Feels more unique.
this shit is vaporware
🤔 but I'm playing it?
@@Redbeardflynn people play star citizen too doesnt mean its not vaporware
@MyMystakes that's not the description of vaporware. Incomplete and vaporware are different things. Can definitely say you think it'll never fully release but neither of those games fit the vaporware descriptions. By that same description you're using the cybertruck is still vaporware...which honestly I might get behind saying that 😅
@@Redbeardflynn Haha, fair, fair. I am just a jaded old school EQ player that has been following this project for ...damn idk feels like 10 years at this point.
@MyMystakes yeah I totally get it. It's hard *not* to be jaded 😅 i backed crowfall and legends of aria too...maybe I'm just desperate for a good mmo. I have legitimately been having fun with this and monsters and memories though thankfully.
New World is better 😎
I'm glad you're enjoying new world 😃
Do we know if there will be a monthly fee to play? I can't find any definite.
Definitely not during Early Access, they'll revisit closer to 1.0
Ah see id probably donate and play during early access only if I knew that I wasn't sinking time into something that'll go to subscription. I just don't have the time to justify paying monthly. Lol. I may go a month or 2 without playing anything.
