Barbara Windsor had a lot more spunk and energy, in the part of Peggy Mitchell. But, I always thought, that this actress physically looked a lot more like she could really be Phil and Grant's mother.
I agree. Much more believable in character too - aspiring middle class mother of two Jack-The-Lads, rather than a hammy, thinly diguised Violet Kray that they turned Peggy into (!)

barbara took the peggy character and made it her own. this is a perfect example of a great character change. just like the last 2 ben mitchell's, ben & paul. ben & callum both great bens

There is no doubt that Barbara Windsor played Peggy Mitchell immensely better than this actress however, this actress is more physically similar to Phil

I’m glad Barbara Windsor made Peggy hers after re-watching these scenes (no disrespect to the original actress). The original-original actress who came before Warne didn’t even get past the fourth recital line before they booted her out.
