  • I positioned a Canon IXUS on my balcony for more that a year and it automatically took a picture every five minutes. Then I made a time lapse movie by selecting the twenty most complex photos of every day and rotating a lowres window through the hires photo. Watch nature change in the flow of the seasons!

I loved this video and play it often, sometimes for music, other times for image. I loved the panning. It was as if were saying you can never see your whole world at once. It gave a sense of travel and time that I think a static shot would not have, Thanks to the filmmaker.

Has anyone noticed the pure simplicity of this natural behaviour - and still everyone that would watch this video finds it so esthetic. We shouldn't see nature as something to watch a few seconds a day - we should see it as the most common but fairest work of art.

  • @NickFankhauserBern

The camera did not rotate. It just took a picture at high resolution every 5 minutes. Then I wrote a perl script to cut out an image of DVD-resolution in the large image, moving the cutout-part over time on a circular path. Then it inserts the timestamps (can't see it here in lowres...) and creates the xvid movie from the images. This gives the sensation of moving the camera over time.
