I agree with you - Jimmy, the wizard, is putting a spell on the audience! During the live performances, they often put snippets of other songs in the middle of the full song. Almost always Robert or Jimmy would do it. They enjoyed playing off one another and trying to up the ante. Zeppelin live is a whole different experience than on the studio albums. Both tremendous- just different. Thanks for another Led Zeppelin live performance. ♥️

The Earls Court (Earls Court is a musical/performance venue in London) stand was an important one for the band because it was where they were finally able to solidify their success in the UK. When Zep started, they made it big in the US first, not the UK. In fact, Jonesy tells a story that early on, after touring the States, they went back to the UK and some people were saying they were a new band from the States and they'd have to tell people "No, we are British." I believe they were originally contracted for 3 performances at Earls Court, however ticket demand was so great, they added two more performances. Insane ticket demand would plague them for the rest of their career. Jimmy's guitar is a 1961 Danelectro DC-2 2031. It was a very budget-friendly guitar; something that could be picked up in a regular department type store rather than a high-end music shop. He said people told him at the time that they were amazed that he was using such a simple, basic, no-frills guitar and getting that type of tone out of it. They all knew the value of stage presence because they all came from a time where they discovered rock and roll as children/young teens. Back in the day, you had a "look" when you performed live, like maybe all the band members wore suits, or had dance moves, or they were explosive on stage. Look up performances of Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, and Chuck Berry as examples. All of them always, always, always improvised onstage whether lyrically or musically. An example of lyrics in this video would be when Robert says "so I gave her the gun and I shot her" which was a twist of a lyric from Jimi Hendrix's song "Hey Joe". I agree, Jimmy's performances were all your descriptions and more - truly transcendent.

Thanks for your explanation on the guitar, I knew it was inexpensive, I believe he got it second hand or something like that. I did know they made it big here in the states first, wasn’t long & selling out the big stadiums, 3 to 5 nights in one city. I’m sure they could have sold out more nights in each city. Bonham had said, he went to SEE The Beatles, where people came to HEAR them performing.

The guitar is from the Danelectro company. They made a series of hollow guitars made of masonite (compressed cardboard type wall material (pegboards are made of it). They had a unique sound and only came in a few colors, black and white being their most popular. Jimmy liked it's sound doing the slide, and he used that guitar to record Kashmir in the studio. It lended itself to different tunings well.

I’m so glad you picked this concert night, I tried telling you which one to do, wasn’t sure you saw my comment though. Some people say Page is sloppy, others say he plays loose, I think he’s the guitar GOD. This song he gets to play his heart out, & he feeds off that, & Plants vocals. This is my 2nd favorite live performance from them, Page & Plant both improvise so often, yet they all manage to go with it. You started your journey with the greatest band, nobody else will measure up to them. Love the full screen for this & the one copyright sign, glad you got your audio fixed too. I’ll say Kashmir at Knebworth (1979), other lives you pick live at Earls Court (1975). Thank you thank you for your great reaction.

For more such spellbinding performances, I suggest Kashmir 1979 Knebworth, Trampled Under foot from this same 1975 show. Sick again is also available from 1975 and 1979, and Ten Years Gone from 1979 Knebworth (I recall it's kinda dark to see? maybe not, check other comments!) Not sure there are any other live PG songs in vid form out there, again, i may be wrong, and others here may well know more. Enjoy!

There’s not many if any others, I’ve watched the full concerts from Earls Court & Knebworth, some may be on them I can’t remember for fact. Both those concerts are free to watch & start a little shaky, but then are amazing. MSG (1973) you can buy rent or watch free with short ads, all 3 are well worth watching. Knebworth the last night, there was at least 200,000 people there. I believe their first concerts after Plants sons death, & Plant says he was nervous, he interacts with the fans quite a bit which is nice.

This live version is simply fantastic: the voice is more bluesy with melodic lines, not shrill, the instruments are mixed with balancers, the drums are not so in the foreground, the rhythm is not so distinctively fast and monotonous, JP's solos "little musical journeys".
Ten Years Gone is fantastically performed in Knebworth or June 21, 1977 (my fav), where The Rover riff also appears as the intro to Sick Again (there is probably no official video from this gig? I have Listen To this Eddie).
After The Rover wasn't used for HOTH, JP added some guitar overdubs (hence never played live? which is common practice today). Keep having fun!!!

Personally I wouldn't suggest anything Zeppelin from 1975. Robert was sick and his vocals were so bad they canceled the rest of the tour. I guess if you don't know his voice like those of us who grew up in the Zeppelin era you'll think 75 is just fine. Of course the rest of the group still kills it.

    • @BBaldwin
      @BBaldwin 3 месяца назад

They didn’t cancel the remaining dates because of his voice. They were cancelled because of Robert’s car accident in Greece. I would also submit these 75 performances were better than most of what we heard from 77, too. The Cincinnati show (Destroyer bootleg) was good, but most of it was less than desirable.

@@CosmicVagabondPixie yes i agree with everything you said! I was slowly picking up on it over time, i definitely caught the vibe that he was influenced by wizards and magic but i didn’t know if it was just apart of his look or if it was something he was actively involved in during the time and it wasn’t until i did my research about them when i saw he used to live in aleister crawley’s home the boleskin house along with the stuff about kenneth anger placing a curse on jimmy and the westerfield house, thats when i was like “yup, jimmy definitely knows about magic and witchcraft, indeed he is a wizard” 😭

@@ToMitoReacts1017 Aww YAY I LUV ya are doing research into him cuz yea there is a LOT he was definitely very interested in all that kind of stuff & i just read recently something i think i did NOT even know (tho who knows maybe i knew it at one time & just forgot ha that happens with me) BUT anyway i read that he even opened an Occult bookshop & publishing this is from the article by "The Shady Old Lady's Guide To London": Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page opened an occult bookshop and publishing house here called Equinox. Or The Equinox Booksellers and Publishers to give it it's full name. The shop was never designed to make money but just to tick over so it could publish books.
Page wrote in an autobiography There was not one bookshop in London with a good collection of occult books and I was so pissed off not being able to get the books I wanted.
The first two books from the publishing company side of the business were The Book of Goetia translated by Aleister Crowley and Astrology, A Cosmic Science by Isabel Hickey.
By 1979 the shop lease expired and Jimmy admitted, It's obviously wasn't going to run the way it should without some drastic business changes and I didn't really want to agree to all of that. I basically wanted the shop to be a nucleus, that's all. Ha anyway man **Enjoy** your journey into discovering **MyJimmyPageMagicalWizardBabe** he is truly a **MysticalMagicalMysteriousEccentricUnicorn**

I believe this guitar is a cheap guitar, & Page got a bargain on it, he made adjustments on it & he makes it sing. I personally don’t know the difference in guitars, I know Jeff Beck gave him one of his favorites. Joe Walsh either gave or sold him another, he borrowed the V one, because at the time couldn’t afford to buy it. He had the double neck made for him, especially to play STH, because they quit making them. There’s a video he talks about his interchangeable extra appendages, that speak for him.

LMAO! Nonsense! Page was always well-heeled, even prior to Zeppelin. There’s a reason he earned the nickname Led Wallet. Your assertion “he couldn’t afford it” is complete bs.
And yes, the guitar given to him by Joe Walsh was a Les Paul Black Beauty, later stolen. This is the one seen in the Albert Hall footage, 1970.
