      I first heard about this movie in a forum for the columbine rpg game. There was a weird community I kind of became a part of and one of the members was casually promoting a movie they worked on that had elements of the stuff we kind of obsessed over already. (This was kind of before the true crime stuff was so normalized, we were still weirdos at that time.)
      As cringey as it is, it is kind of cool to see it from that context. Not a great movie, but it is cool to see it from that perspective and knowing that some regular weirdos managed to work on an actual movie.
      Didn't like the movie, but it's cool to see someone make their attempt at a passion project.

They are not the same outcasts as the ones in the party house, even though they are wearing the same costumes. This was meant to confuse the police when it was all over. Well, to be fair, that's done on purpose. There's a scene earlier in the movie where she's watching "Audition" (although I don't think they ever show you the screen) and she says to the guy on the phone, "It's perfect." That was their way of setting up the idea that they were going to use techniques from popular horror movies to torture and kill their victims. Which is kind of a cool concept, but then she ended up being the only one to do it. 🤷‍♀
      I did like that when she put the first needles in, she says "deeper, deeper," which is what the woman in "Audition" is saying. The idea had potential, but they didn't follow through.

    • @blueismylove3128
      @blueismylove3128 2 года назад +21

      @@Kristine_202 think this movie had a LOT of potential to be actual spooky and terrifying. A big part of it's downfall are the insanely flat 1 dimensional characters and insane luck that the kids had getting every single person to drink that night (I'm sorry but even as a kid when I was watching the movie I wondered what would have happened in a single person decided they didn't want to drink that night)
      I've mentioned the characters but really the atmosphere isn't spooky there's no attention buildup really. I was going to go into a thing and give examples about what the movie could have done better to make it an actual good horror movie, not saying as it is now it isn't a guilty pleasure, but I honestly don't remember the movie all that much to be able to give detailed examples and I kind of don't really care. I just think this could have been an actually awesome movie.

      I think the idea that it “might give them ideas” is very silly on its face. They came into the movie specifically to watch acts of violent torture and murder. What is the movie going to show them that they couldn’t think of if they wanted to already?
      I think the only possible “harm” that a movie like this could do (and I don’t think it’s harmful, but some people might) is simply to give pleasure and catharsis to “bad people” who just wanna watch people suffer.

I had an inkling I may have after seeing Ravi and the weird prayer circle, but I wasn't sure. While I don't think movies always have some sort of obligation of being a morality play, I do take issue with the fact that, if one *is* going to at least show some kind of "satisfying" revenge porn/wish fulfillment aspect addressing bullying (as most that get bullied don't get resolutions and always carry that fear and vulnerability and most bullies are just fine and get on with their lives without consequence or too much remorse) they ought to do it well. I love revenge fantasy media as much as anyone, but damn. I was bullied and as much as I hated my bullies, even in a fictional sense I'd never want it to go this far. It just seems to make the main characters unlikable and be too intense to actively enjoy the bullies "getting what was coming to them". Because what they deserved was to be told off or for their bullying to come back to bite them, not to be literally killed and tortured. Like, on a writing standpoint, I feel like if characters would go this quickly to these lengths without much thought, they kind of weren't sympathetic in the first place. That's just my opinion though, and I actually really enjoyed this low-energy review. Felt like watching a bad movie with my friend on the couch.

      my take is that it’s a commentary on how people like, school shooters for example, are the victims (of bullying), but the second they start killing for revenge they become worse than the people who were bullying them. I think that’s kinda further proved by Ravi’s death, where he is killed by his own “friend” for ruining said friend’s sadistic plot for revenge. I might be giving this movie too much credit tho it kinda devolves into edginess for the sake of edginess and torture porn.

Group of stupid looking thugs hold a large group captive, kill a few, force some to cut others' fingers off, and the Kenshiro comes in and just eviscerates them and leaves. Definitely doesn't need to be a feature length movie

    Fair critique, my explanation of the ending. The black guy was second guessing being friends with the new kid (the biker kid) who perceives to be “a weird emo kid”. Who most likely will get bully. But the problem isn’t being friends or not being friends with the weird kid. The problem was going to the party. Or at least doing some background research about the party you plan on attending lol

    On a real note though it sucks how little bullies get any real repercussions for their actions. That’s why shit like these movies happen fictionally or irl because vulnerable people get taken advantage of and have no outlet so it eventually results in these outbursts. We need more help for people in those situations and actual repercussions for bullying. That said what happened in this movie isn’t okay irl and I hope anyone affected by anything such as shootings is doing okay

    Oh man what a blast from the past... Originally watched this film when it was part of the After Dark Horrorfest / Films to Die For and if you haven't heard of that, it was basically a showcase of budget/independent horror films. It's a rabbit hole to go down nowadays. A big issue with After Dark Horrofest featured films is that so many take themselves too seriously to the point where if it's bad, it's got no awareness and no enjoyment. Unfortunately I remember The Final being one of the better ones from that year despite its flaws but Dread (2009) was the standout from that year and the series as a whole and one I bring up from time to time; it's worth a watch in my opinion. There's a few that I still think about to this day for one reason or another like Frontière(s) (2007) which is like a french Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Gravedancers (2008) which is just fun to watch with the right people. Highly suggest looking into the After Dark Horrfest / 8 Films to Die For if you get the chance, but know a lot of the films are boring slogs...but there are some decent gems in there

    If this movie was rewritten by a better writing team I think it would have done a lot better. What I did like, was the bits with the black boy. the race commentary was pretty on point (minus him showing up at someone's house with a gun, and the clown boy getting killed). The fact that he (the black guy) did nothing wrong when running for help, was given more hostility than the white characters who actually were committing a crime. The fact he had to create a story just so the neighbor could identify with him to get him to be less suspicious of him, and even had him make a false report to the police just so they'd show up faster. If there were more of this the movie would make more sense.
