Not generally but some of them are quite rough and could injure shrimp, like Bristlenose Plecos. So it's best to make sure your tank is big enough for your shrimp and whatever Algae eater you choose. I prefer Nerites because they're small and do an amazing job.
I have a tank full of them and they do very little when it comes to algae control. They are also considered pests because of how fast their numbers get out of control. So personally I wouldn't recommend it.
Undue to popular belief, the Chinese algae eater is a fantastic algae eater… people say that they stop eating algae as they mature, and frankly it is a lie, they do grow large and can be aggressive however, I find them mostly defensive. I breed bn plecos of all varieties and there’s no contest, CAE wins every time. Thanks for the video mate!
Thanks for the comment! I've never owned Chinese Algae Eaters but have heard all the bad rumors about them. I won't risk putting them with my other fish as I heard they eat the slime coats of fish in their tank. I think that outweighs the algae issues 😋

Hillstream loaches are supposed to eat BBA. I don't have any experience with them but I do have them on my list of fish to get.

I have a nerite and otto team and they keep a 30 gallon tank clean.
I love keeping one Nerite with a small school of Ottos. They are incredible at keeping the tanks clean!
