After a few days at different places in Milton Keynes, it was time for me to move on but the weather had different ideas and a tree across the canal put paid to movement for an evening. Eventually I was able to get going again and back out into the countryside, ending up near Stoke Hammond.

Bit of Trivia. Refreshers are made in NewMills, Derbyshire by Swizzles Matlow, right on the canal, lovely part of the world where you can smell refreshers as you pass by, although I don’t have a boat but enjoy your vlog.

I know hard rain is unfortunate for navigation purposes, but I can only imagine how well I would sleep with the rain pounding away on the canal and roof of a narrowboat. Thanks for the most relaxing videos on RUclips.

I used to own a wooden boat and after a hot spell you would think a heavy shower would be great. But alas along with the pita pater comes the drip, drip, drip. Teak deck planks shrink and if the seam caulking has not been installed correctly, it tears away from one side or the other and the hair line crack lets the water in. But by some amazing factor it never seams to drip under the crack, so there's a search and find operation to be carried out.
Most of the ships swindlers don't stock or even know about Sika Flex bond break tape, they sell hundreds of tubes of expensive Sika Flex Epoxy, but no tape.
Deck planking is laid with a groove cut part way through the thickness, in the top section along each plank, when installed the lower section of the plank butts up to the other plank.
The tape is then applied on top of the groove and the Sika Flex is applied on top of the tape. The tape then acts as a slide or break point and allows the Sika Flex to stretch with tearing away from either or both sides of the upper groove, when the decking shrinks.
A caulking job well done means no drips on the head when trying to sleep.

When you were talking about the heron and then said “we’ve had a couple of...” I honestly believed that you were about to finish that sentence with “we’ve had a couple of deep philosophical discussions” 😂.
Instead, you talked about a couple of days of bad weather.
I’m now imagining those deep and meaningful conversations that you had with the majestic Mr Heron (or Ms perhaps).
    It’s late, I’m obviously a little over-tired.
Thanks for sharing your adventures. Much appreciated.

Interesting new tactic for getting the boats moored around you to move on.. tell them you saw some chavs eyeing up your boat at midnight... clever!!
I find an isolated stainless steel handrail fed with an electric fence output tends to deter boarders... just call it "static buildup"

Do punks bother the boats much,,,that's dumb of me,of course they will,,,, that's one that I like about boating here,,you could mount a gattlin gun if you could find one,,,a buddy got a house boat here on lake Cumberland,a and he is doing something with supercapacitors, says it works like a stunt gun,,but here we can get away and unless they have a boat you're fine,,thxs,gb

I was brought up in Bletchley near Fenny Stratford. My Dad was a Bletchley Park Veteran working there during the War & at the Outstations until the 60’s. They bought their first house there at Far Bletchley. Just after the small marina by the flats at Fenny was Bletchley sports field where as a teenager I played cricket for Old Bletchley Cricket Club. We used to play the village of Milton Keynes, consisting then of a Pub, village Green & Duck Pond. How times have changed!

Hi David, at last a stretch of the canal I know by heart having formerly lived opposite the canal in Fenny Stratford and now living in Bletchley. I & the wife walk this stretch weekly. Now we know why that tree was cut! As a youngster I saw commercial canal activity, even an ice breaker in Winter. Often watched grain boats having their cargo literally sucked up a pipe into the canal-side maltings, long since gone! Great to see the inside of Stoke Hammond lock for a change! Many thanks! Mike

Road noise always reminds me of the Blue Pool, Wareham. Happily meandering through the pretty woods around the lake, I suddenly found myself in a tiny glen which curiously felt very special. It took me a moment to work out why: it was the only spot in the woods all around the lake where there was no road noise. There was not a glimpse of civilization except for the visitor's center, and that only if you were very close to the shore, but there was road noise everywhere.
    Refreshers! :D
I prefer being outside of towns and cities too, although the impulse is not nearly as strong as it was 20 years ago. What made the difference was probably building a life for myself away from all that, especially because it was social; I was appreciated and liked by people who were fine with normal houses. The down-side was it was an online life, so it was inevitably unhealthy in a physical sense. There were other problems too, partly from my own choices and partly from haters who don't care that justice is something far more complicated than their tiny brains can handle.
It's weird but cool watching through the camera at the front of the boat when you've no idea what's going on behind. :D

When facing a fallen tree needing to be cleared the first order of business is to insure the safety of those doing the clearing. Cut down the tree with just half a trunk so that nothing more can fall on the workers. After that it is easy to access the part in the canal and safer. Good Vlog! From Troy, NY.
