What I find amazing is that I've watched countless videos of Pearl Jam performances and I've NEVER seen a bad performance. Even with great vocalists, they have their off days, but with Eddie it's always perfect.
tremendous performance by an absolutely mighty f*#^ing rock and roll band. thick bass, drums banging hard and fast, two great guitarists, and the best voice in the history of the game.
always amazed by how good eddie sounds live. on another note...we are so lucky to have lived through pearl jam. From there live shows to their completely generous release of material.
One of the most familiar voices in rock history. He`ll forever make millions get to their feet and cheer in 20 years, all he has to do is grunt. It`ll still take all of us back to a time when rock was great. Thank god for that!
Well Matt Cameron is pearl jam's official drummer, i don't think he's gonna be leaving anytime soon, but man that's gotta be rough touring with soundgarden and pearl jam, but it's fuckin awesome! haha
I wonder what dave does with all the vinyl and cd's he uses to introduce the bands over the years. There are countless vinyl like Pearl Jam that are not in production anymore that I would like to get my grubby hands on instead of paying hundreds for. I just hope he cherishes them like an audiophile would.
Life wasted is their first "music video" in eight years, they came out with other videos which were (studio) live performances of them; Love boat Captain, Save You, ect...
Yes I would have to agree they still have thier edge maybe even edgier. I used to be a music snob and it was all about nirvana, sonic youth and so on for me....It may have taken several years but Eddie has grown on me. Saw him on a program called iconoclast and sensed what an intellegent and gentle soul he has. Im not into comparisons.... He is undeniably an artist.
@TheLiaran21 Next they will be in summer 2010 in berlin, on June, 30th in "Wuhlheide" (never heard of it, but must be somewhere in berlin). The ONLY concert here in germany this year, when I remember correctly. I also think very intensivly about a little travel to our capital this summer :)
You know what?!!! I DO care what you think! Though Zeppelin were more of a high school band for me, both bands are amazing, and Pearl Jam, being my favorite band of all time, IS the best band around!
i saw that show too... i think a lot of nirvana grunge purists are coming around so kudos... also i think this song during the verse has a drum beat that is remenicent of a dave groll beat... that 3x snare dave loved... i don't know if you think the same thing or not?
To answer this question, from what I understand, Eddie developed a rapport with Dave in the mid 90's when he made a surprise appearance to sing a verse from Black during a week that Dave was making fun of "Where's Eddie Vedder". After that they appeared on his show and they like the fact that he just wants them to come and play and doesn't make them play a specific song...he lets them choose what they want to play. See MTV 1992 for when they were forced to play Jeremy instead of Sonic Reducer.
They never played Animal or Oceans on SNL. In 1992 they played Alive and Porch, in 1994 they played Not for You, Rearviewmirror, and Daughter, and in 2006 they played World Wide Suicide and Severed Hand.
I like how after 15 years he still doestn like to look into the camera, he'll look up and then when he does catch the camera he closes his eyes... haha cool!!!
Not on prime time til hotness and coolness were gone? What? They have been on letterman going back to No Code and I'm pretty sure before that.. They are still cool and still hot...boy PJ "fans" for lack of a better word are so critical...ikes..
@jomanu jajajajaaj si es cierto , es bonito cuando alguien se emociona a tal punto, es signo de que disfruta lo que hace: juega! "yes that´s true, its nice to see somebody joyfull, stands for loving what they do" (sorry my bad english)
I'm Rolling Stones Gen and they aren't on Pearl Jam's level. The mid 90s was the last time I listened to the radio.Everything sucks after Pearl Jam, Sound Garden and Alice in Chains.
What I find amazing is that I've watched countless videos of Pearl Jam performances and I've NEVER seen a bad performance. Even with great vocalists, they have their off days, but with Eddie it's always perfect.
I've worshipped this band since the very beginning, and they just seem to get better and better...just like a fine wine.
tremendous performance by an absolutely mighty f*#^ing rock and roll band. thick bass, drums banging hard and fast, two great guitarists, and the best voice in the history of the game.
I've seen PJ many times live and am always blown away by their live shows...they are a FAN's Band...their music has been the soundtrack to my life
You can hear them cranking it up in intensity as they progress through the song...so organic, old-school.
I've been fortunate enought to see them live... those guys are fricken phenomenal every time they play
his voice is just insane....big smile on my face
seems they always kick it up a notch when they're on Letterman... all the Letterman performance clips on youtube are amazing
Amazing performance, thanks for uploading it! 2nd best Letterman performance behind 'Hail Hail' in '96. Ed is intense!
Tremendous performance from Eddie and PJ!!
Still as tight and disciplined as ever. And their message is true and on-the-mark. Long Live Perl Jam; 10!
even if he old now he still have high energy! eddie vedder is really awesome
always amazed by how good eddie sounds live. on another note...we are so lucky to have lived through pearl jam. From there live shows to their completely generous release of material.
Best American Rock Band Period.
Awesome performance. Badass!
only if you watch pearl jam live you can judge..and i saw them 2 times.....and let me say something...AMAZING
Mike is so amusing! I don't know why but he always cracks me up!
Pearl Jam = My generations Rolling Stones... Kick-ass rock-n-roll
What an amazing band.
I love all their albums
The best music video ever!
eddie vedder is such an inspirational person
how i wish i was letterman just so i could watch all of these great groups everynight
Best band in the world!!
You can tell Mike likes to play this song! Rightfully so.
Kurt chose death. Eddie chose life. and i'm so, so grateful he did so
One of the most familiar voices in rock history. He`ll forever make millions get to their feet and cheer in 20 years, all he has to do is grunt. It`ll still take all of us back to a time when rock was great. Thank god for that!
Well Matt Cameron is pearl jam's official drummer, i don't think he's gonna be leaving anytime soon, but man that's gotta be rough touring with soundgarden and pearl jam, but it's fuckin awesome! haha
at the begin, Mike McCready looks like a 9-10 years old kid with a toy guitar!
lovely!*.*
and pealr jam is the best of the best!
They sound amazing but i think everyone should take the time to look at the lyrics and see how fucking amazing they are then!
Letterman & Pearl Jam...great combo! Paul Shaffer and the band always play this song during the show as well!
Well...his voice has changed from years of singing and touring, but he's 40...and he can still sing better than LOADS of people younger.
I wonder what dave does with all the vinyl and cd's he uses to introduce the bands over the years. There are countless vinyl like Pearl Jam that are not in production anymore that I would like to get my grubby hands on instead of paying hundreds for. I just hope he cherishes them like an audiophile would.
Vedder looks so good here. Much like the 90's Vedder.
@JackRaspin92 me too dude. me too. i don't know what i would do without pearl jam.
@mike8163 There is alot of good rock music made today that is not played on the radio...
Life wasted is their first "music video" in eight years, they came out with other videos which were (studio) live performances of them; Love boat Captain, Save You, ect...
what else can you call it?
such passion, melody and poetry can only be called that. you can't just categorize them.
this was pretty much the first time i saw or heard pearl jam (when it was first broadcast)its awesome
Eddie, Mike, Stone Jeff and Matt...I love you guys.
why does dave make that bop bop sound he always fucking does even now STOP DAMN YOU
I;ve since purchased all of their material
@katiecoole101
its ALL good, we still love u! : )
it's gonna be the BEST Labor Day EVER!!!
He is undeniably an artist.
i was here and met mike on the street in nyc that day, he was the coolest
Nice musics :-) yeah yeah
I miss Dave Abbruzeese

If you have ever ben in recovery ie subtance abuse the words to this song are words to live by.
man....15 years n they r still lookin cool ya know? i love Pearl Jam they rock, and the guitarist's hair looks real cool too, lol
Their music is so much different today and lyrics too.............
But these are the same bodies.
@TheLiaran21
Next they will be in summer 2010 in berlin, on June, 30th in "Wuhlheide" (never heard of it, but must be somewhere in berlin).
The ONLY concert here in germany this year, when I remember correctly. I also think very intensivly about a little travel to our capital this summer :)
lyrically amazing beneath the hard rockin
JESUS LOOKS LIKE EDDIE VEDDER !
Love them!!!
Best All American Rock Band Ever!
that drummer is amazing
if the guys play it live i think its theirs if not, ill agree with you.
the song is very radio friendly...
god, i love pearl jam
damn mike smoked that solo.. had to watch a few more times.. haha
Jesus! Look at Stone busting those moves, man!
ye man letterman loves PJ. I wanna go to one of his shows and hold up a big sign saying "pearl jam" and see if he has any reaction!
I'm with you there man, they steal riff's and are totally not in ti for the music any more! Pearl Jam are the Best!
You know what?!!! I DO care what you think! Though Zeppelin were more of a high school band for me, both bands are amazing, and Pearl Jam, being my favorite band of all time, IS the best band around!
Haha, Dave's hilarious.
"WOW, I CAN'T DO THAT!"
i saw that show too... i think a lot of nirvana grunge purists are coming around so kudos... also i think this song during the verse has a drum beat that is remenicent of a dave groll beat... that 3x snare dave loved... i don't know if you think the same thing or not?
@g0ldbuG i thought the same thing. no way he could hold a tour schedule playing for 2 bands. at the very least, i'm glad soundgarden is back.

its awesome...
I like how after 15 years he still doestn like to look into the camera, he'll look up and then when he does catch the camera he closes his eyes... haha cool!!!
oooooooohhhhhhhhh yes. best night of my life EVAR
Not on prime time til hotness and coolness were gone? What? They have been on letterman going back to No Code and I'm pretty sure before that.. They are still cool and still hot...boy PJ "fans" for lack of a better word are so critical...ikes..
wow! what year is this? eddie looks like is 1992.
Yeah, to each their own. I just hope they come out with a new, better one soon.
@jomanu jajajajaaj si es cierto , es bonito cuando alguien se emociona a tal punto, es signo de que disfruta lo que hace: juega!

yeah... awesome
Now this is a fucking rock band!
who's PJ's drummer gonna be now that SoundGarden is reforming or is Matt Cameron gonna do double duty from here on out (a tall order to be sure)?
@johnkiedis27 that is actually on the album. I think it is called life wasted reprise. I think
Life Wasted, from the 2006 self-titled album.
I completely agree with cjmst3k. Well said.
HELL YEAH!!!
Seein 'em next month :)
Eddie was extremely hot this year...
Making great rock n roll must be the fountain of youth, because Vedder still looks like he did when he was with Temple of the Dog.
i have not seen dave interview eddie before..they should chat on air sometime
They remind me of an Australian band called 'Powerderfinger'
indeed!
did you go to Oeiras Alive?
@notlhe81 jaja..yo tampoco hablo inglés, así que no hay problema!
GRAANDE PEARL JAM MIEERDA!!
very very very very very very true :)
@timmyjonson
did you have fun?
anyone seen iconoclasts with ed and liad hamilton there is a version of this but really slow and no drums, sounds like its on an organ
Yeah, he's one of the few who sound the same live and on the albums
When did this episode originally air? I'm pissed I missed it...what would we do w/o youtube?
