Preemo could drop these for the rest of his life, his whole catalogue is classic. If you have this man behind you, you're official. Even Group Home, which weren't the best MC's honestly had bangers thanks to Preemo.
Why add an insult to a compliment?
Who's Preko?
'Supa Star' was x is an excellent record. One's interpretation of art differs from artistry/songs/verses vs time. Group Home have a hit record under their belt with the chemistry of Preemo. A hit is a hit. #Relax
Styles and styles I flip, Lil’ Dap remains sick!
@Black lodge facts g , they weren’t the best at all , especially compared to other heads of the east coast , doesn’t mean they weren’t great👊🏽🎤
the internet is a magical thing: you go from buying the cassette 15 years ago in Romania and listening to Gang Starr to listening to the man who made all this good music, the legend. much love!
Premier giving us these looks into his floppy disk collection is only whetting our appetites for a beat making series. Come on Premo pass that knowledge down OG!
That would be a can't miss series sun!
You could learn to make beats from dozens of people online if you really wanted to. Yeah he's one of the best to ever do it but making beats exactly like Premier would take creativity and style only he has, thats what makes him so great. So why not just learn from other guys who sample and are nice with the drums? Just my opinion
@@silewis9396because veterans could have knowledge that we don't. I've watched hundreds of beat making videos and only one of them mentioned the fact that Tribe Called Quest used to put a low pass on their beats, increase the volume and then layer the normal beat on top to have a thumpy low end. A simple trick but I've heard no one else mention it except one person. There are definitely things Preemo knows that we don't that he could teach us.
@@silewis9396 I feel you. I already make beats. I don’t wanna sound just like Premo, I have my own flavor, but he’s a legend. There are so many details that we don’t know about that we can use that would help no matter what our styles are. All these legendary producers need to do it.
@@silewis9396 Yeah, his sound is right in the middle, never overly polished and never so low that is sounds cheap, he's the master at that.
This is what I mean when I say hip hop in this era is no comparison to the 90s hip hop…the work ethic, the diggin of samples, finding the right ones to blend together, the hours of recording to tape, adat, cassette, etc. Music is music but the grind is different.
Not to mention that Premo was actually in the studio with the artist making the beat in real time and not emailing several pre-produced beats to the artist to select. There was a REAL SENSE OF COLLABORATION back then.
Right, true hip hop productions, the craft!
To me technology has taken the true collaborative aspect out of creating music, being honest I wouldn't want to create music with most of these young peoples! #SAVE THE ARTFORM ❤
Yeah. But few musicians of the 80s, 70s, 60s, etc had respect for 90s hip hop, ‘cause none of the producers or artists were actually playing musical instruments. Older musicians considered sampling “stealing other artist’s work”. They didnt look at rap as “real music”. The generational resentment stuff is pointless, cause you can always find a way to hate if you want. It’s all about perspective, humility and appreciation. Great music spans generations.
@@dantegood2195 It's not pointless. It's a slippery slope. 70's musicians weren't totally wrong in their critics. Now, it's less and less music and more and more computerized noise. The next step will be AI "creating" music.
We deserve a story for each and every Premo track ever made. The end. 🙏🤞😏
Hey Preemo, if you read this, I still look at you as the gold standard for any producer that came after you since I was a kid.
I just realized that this video was 6 days ago
This track is still dope af and always will.
Word
Facts Brother Facts!
KRS-One: "off course we don't flipflop"
Dj Premier: "got the salute the floppy disk"
😂 🙏❤ love to both LEGENDS!!
HAHAHAHA! Clever!
of course u can't flip the flop, only goes in one way
Disk as in diskette. Not Disc as in compact disc. Stop saying stup!d s*&*&^, b&&^^!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@dianevrules thank you
Would be nice to hear krs' side too. He always has a story to tell
One of the coldest beats ever
Netflix seriously needs to pick this up FAST! Seriously, I could binge-watch hours of it!
Naw, f^^^ netflix. Keep this s&^^ free, on youtube for everyone.
@@dianevrules I feel you, I just want more. Like 45-minute episodes with various producers; hosted by Premo, of course.
KRS' foot on these wack MCs necks with this one. That beat is too hard. Another of Preemo's classics. Supa Star next, or D'evils even if it wasn't a single.
I used to break in highschool with the homies to this. This one song right here helped forged a bond of brothers that are still tight to this day!! Shout out to KRS-1 and the Boogie Down Productions!! And of course, Preemo!!🔥🔥🔥
U broke “in” high school?!? Why? Why not out
I can listen to Premier all day long.
They could make a tv show out of this.
Salute to the floppy disk…. and Schulmadchen Report
Floppy Disk as in diskette. Not Disc as in compact disc. GTFOHSB
@@dianevrules fixed. Thanks, yo
Do not stop these...would love to see you pop in the floppies and show us the chops
He’s never gonna show how he does his chops. It’s his closest guarded secret
@@DJFurio I just think he doesnt wanna give away what samples hes used so not to get sued
@@marcosaruca5283 He said that bs on one of those Gangstarr albums. But why tf would anyone want to show motherf&&%% how they do s&^^^???? Oh, youtube producers do that all the time. Thats why everyone sounds the same.
@@dianevrules cmon people gave been emulateing him for a while
Premier is just one of those guys that I can just listen talk about hip-hop all day long. Sprinkle in his catalog in the background, and I’m there for days!
1996 ... WHAT a year in hip hop
This was the ultimate Jam right here. KRS did his thing and Preemo brought the crazy boombap joint.
Hip Hop on hardware hits harder
Anybody else listen to albums like this when they were young and have no idea at the time that cats were FREESTYLING these lyrics?? I feel like KRS freestyled damn near this whole album! "Build Ya Skillz" especially, from a freestyle perspective, is fking mindblowing!!
Definitely gifted like December 25th; one of my FAVORITE rhymes of all time. Was mad that Busta didn’t rhyme on it
Krs top 5 dead or alive 💯🙌🔥
Yeah you just made that up lol
Depends on what you mean by freestyling
@@Mr-gx9dx For me it's "Get your tape recorder fast, kid / Boombastic, another classic / TURN UP THE CASSETTE!"
I would pay for Preemo's book with all of his stories. Icon.
If this series ever come to an endding, please make at least one last episode showing the whole case!!! 🙏🙏🙏🤩
The all time classic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The GOATS Preemo & KRS1!!!!!!!!
The teacher teaches. Had the pleasure of meeting him at a rave in Jersey back in the day. Bought a International church of hip hop from him. Respect.
You're talking about The Temple Of Hip Hop, right?
@@marksuckaturd5098 yeah that sounds about right.
One of the hardest joints ever made
Music history by DJ Premiere puts a huge smile on my face!!
This So Wassup collection is truly a gift to us all
The MPC is something that you’d have to experience to understand the capabilities of.
Two geniuses at work. LOVE hearing these stories, yo.
This series is just as inspirational as the day I was blessed enough to meet you at the airport in Melbourne and share my art with you. It was a portrait of you and Guru, I doubt you remember or see this, but keep it up! I hope this series never ends!
This video smells like a room full of speakers and equipment, musicians know that smell, it’s an actual smell no lie. Premier
I absolutely agree with you that Chris Parker is one of the best MC`s and performers in hip-hop. I saw him live in Stockholm in June 2005. It was amazing, and I was in euphoria afterwards. Thank you, Premier for all the beats and your love for hip-hop. Lots of respect and love from Sweden.
I have no idea what's on that album behind Premo, but I'm loving the cover.
I’m lovin these Preemo. Back when it really mattered that mpc was the sword. They still act like they don’t know.
One of my all time favorites..
Every beat this man makes is a banger. Everything’s a classic. Hands down no other DJ can make a beat like Premier.
He kept all his work!!!!
I just love how he points to his ear and brain every now and then.
*WACK MCs* u must learn comes to mind! 😊
Preem and Gang Starr documentary........long overdue.

Thank you Primo. Now I need that Nas is like story.
Great shout
the series should be way longer!
A much welcomed slice of history! ❤🙏🏿 Thank You!
This is the first song i heard from hiphop teacher and i fell in love with the art and culture. Thank you Preemo and thank you KRS_ONE. What would've my life be without Hip-Hop
Im dead at this dude's KRS 1 impression.
One of my favorite songs ever, by my favorite producer ever...One love Premo!!
My fav emcee with my fav DJ/Producer 👏✊✌️.
Incredible story about this classic record! Keep 'em coming Preemo! We are all witnesses! 🙌🏾
One of my favorite beats of all time.
💯Props to Preem for maintaining the true Hip Hop DJ code of not revealing samples💯
If he did, he would have to pay
Such a classic record. Thank you for sharing the story. I played this last night at the Hieroglyphics show here in Tampa. 🙌🔈🔉🔊
This song always gives me energy, when I need it.
Still my fav KRS one song of all time. And that says a lot bc he’s got too many, and more famous ones, but this one always stuck out to me from all his shit. The beat is just so fire, the bars, and the fact KRS was on a mission to prove he was still that dude around this time bc the west was in control, the East was dominated by gangsta rap. I was a kid in 94, but I remember my brother always bumpin this and it always stuck wit me.
Should forsure just have the full track play at the end of these . Lovin it !
Man that intro still slaps.
The tables turn as the crosses burn remember you must learn….re established his dominance with that track there in the 90s he was my favorite than Evan so I dunno lol
Oh shit what really happened with Krs in the 90s
1.unnaturally natural
2. Gravity speed
Just some principles there hehe
Slappin' and selectin' em, checkin' em, disrespectin' em
Just deckin' em, deckin' em, DECKIN' EM
Ain’t gone lie, love KRS, but when he says “all up in they rectum,” I’m cringing.
@@pungisotu hahahaha i feel u on that, i like to imagine it wasn't sus in the 90's like when they used to say "eat a rapper" n pause worthy shit like that

Every single one of these videos give me chills… Such a blessed era…
As someone who’s been watching your whole career, it feels like I’m there hearing you answer questions I’ve always wanted to know. I look forward to your series now like a new record release in the 90’s. Thank you again Preemo for giving me that real Hop Hop feeling again. 🙏🏼
Same here. Been a Preemo fan since 89 when they were on Wild Pitch. When I heard him flip "The Message From The Souls Sisters" for "No More Mr. Nice Guy" for the first time I became a life long fan. Best Rapper / Producer duo to do it.
Great videos! Can't wait to see JayZ's "So ghetto" insert!
Love these episodes Premo, keep doing your thing!!!
The teacher + Preemo 🔥
I love these stories!!! Thank you Preemo!
One of my favorite Producers an MC of all time Salute to these Legends of Hip Hop 👑💪💯👍❤️🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I hope we get to see a lot more of these!
These videos are heaven on internet.
These stories are all real interesting keep it going dj premier
I need to cop me that Premier shirt!
Seen KRS One live in Rotterdam, the most energetic performance i ever seen. He went in the crowd and sended the security away to be under the fans. I shook the hand of this legend that night, great guy.
Love this track :)
BTW please back up those floppys before they stop working.
When I was 16-20 my whole life revolved around listening to KRS, Nas, and trying to mimic Premiers beats. Damn man, this is really special.
I still think the most underrated premo joint was that pitch black “it’s all real” from 03. Such a fire beat for a subpar album
That's a sick one!
I started a 10 second timer myself at 5:05. The beat did dropped exactly on time . DJ Premier is a legendary genius
SLAPPIN AND SELECTIN EM!
Classic Album!!! We need a Return of The Boom Bap 2!!! This series is LEGENDARY!!! DJ PREMIER my favorite producer of All Time
Definitely enjoy watching this episode please keep them coming.🙏🏾
What's great is it makes you play the song after Premo video.. Thanks please do this all year 👏 👏
That HipHop vs Rap line he got that title/cut from was:
"That's why when you come to the show *MCs act like they don't know* Cos they was too young to rock up in the disco."
Boom-bap is always my favorite because it creates something brand new instead of just taking an R&B hit and adding a hip-hop beat. Don't get me wrong, it's really cool when you recognize a sample or a melody from something else and it's used nicely but, I like when real DJs (like Premier) find some little gem and don't tell anybody where they got it. ⏺️💪
This will forever go down as one of the greatest records of hiphop!! Almost 30yrs since it came out and still getting chills! Thank you Preem!!
Damn I forgot Premier did this track. What a fkn legacy. We need, in 2021, a new MC to make a banger using Boom Bap beats. They are so undeniably dope. Maybe skills might even come back.
C'mon UNC. There are plenty of artists with skills in this era... from popular guys like J. Cole and Kendrick to so called undergtound artists like Ka, Oun-P, Mach Hommy, Roc Marci. Get off the radio bullshit.
Blu and Exile, Skyzoo, Mick Jenkins, Ill Conscious and many more. I've been a hip hop head since 1986 but I know there's still plenty of skilled emcees out there, even if you have to dig a bit harder!
The Molemen have and continue to make beats that are akin to Preemo, but still with their own taste. Plus they have a ton of sick features and collabs.
Amen.
Check out "Northern Hospitality" Mac Miller x Mos Def vibes
One of my favorite hip-hop songs ever. Thank you Primo, and KRS.
Loving this series so far. I have to admit, I was fixated on the album cover in the background. 😆
I am in awe of the details behind the production. Preemo has the precision of a watchmaker
G-Building M.O.P. Would love to hear the science behind that and the whole Warriorz album.
I was in the Bronx for New York City homecoming concert last month and it was lit! To see all the old school originators hit the stage was the best thing to happen in 2021! KRS Killed it 🙏🏽
The fact these floppy disks are still in good working condition is an amazement. My floppy disks gave me errors if I looked at it wrong. Fun times with the MP.
Right!!!!! I still have 1000s of them for my MPC 2000 Classic
“Nas Is Like” next please ! Love the show
I don't know which I'd rather see, 10 crack commandments or Kick in the door.
I love these stories 😃. But Yoo that ahhh at 4:50 mark was sounded soo fucking crazy 🤯.
