Ever since I discovered your JJ2 OST remixes I was waiting for this one song, Dark Groove has always been my favorite. At this point I have listened to this remix about at least 20-30+ times. ... And I couldn't get it. It just didn't click with me for the longest time. I felt pretty bad about it. Because ALL of your remixes are so exceptionally good, I got over-hyped waiting for Dark Groove. And the first many listenings, I couldn't bring myself to like it. I was honestly disappointed and didn't want to be. And then today I feel like I finally understood - if I am correct this remix is actually not supposed to be DARK. It might be obvious for somebody else but for me this song seems actually pretty calm, chilled, even happy and funny with the great inclusion of Popcorn theme. And THAT'S what caused my initial confusion. You see, I love the original Dark Groove so much BECAUSE it is dark. The tone of the original is about the hell landscape. And so I expected this one to be dark as well. Now I realized this was never meant to be the case, this is actually a different take on the song. A happier, more chill version. And as such, after this realization, I started to love this one too. Thank you for making such amazing music ❤️
Thank you for listening and sharing your thoughts! 🙂 Indeed I don't try to copy the original, nor just replace the instruments and call it a day like some others might, but instead add to it, expand the original ideas and/or present a different take while at the same time preserve as much as possible from the original. You can hear that the intro is indeed very dark and ominous, but it then develops into a synthwave-like tune that's not too dark and not too bright/happy so there could be a balance. The Popcorn reference almost didn't make the final cut, but the track felt a bit too dark and serious without it (with all the electric guitars and such) so I decided to include it after all. 🙂 Glad to see you liked it in the end! 😊
RUclips autoplayed this, and I didn't realise what it was, but I tabbed over so fast when I realised I was hearing a Kraftwerk bassline. Amazing remix, thank you for sharing
2 masterpieces on the same day, you are on a roll Allan! It's like You have to enter the hell in an impossible mission to save your soul buried deep in it And the time is too short What an epic stage and soundtrack Great job 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Incredible interpretation. I love the beats, it adds a bit of melancholy but with modernity. I love the Dark Groove stage, I wanted to last longer, it was that kind of stage that now as an adult I like it, and it brings me back memories of waiting for a super boss hidden, or maybe a cutscene, it depicted the journey of our hero into the depths of hell, it was almost a "tranquil" stage and OST right before the dynamic ending stages. Great tune!
Yet another master-piece, Allan! You remix Alexander's tracks but still keep the magic intact! I also saw the ingenious integration of "Popcorn" by Gershon Kingsley in this track, haha awesome! I keep getting a song in my head but I cant figure out where its from. Its driving me insane.. :D
Found it asked in other comments, apparently its Popcorn by Hot Butter. I can sleep again at night!

Hehe indeed! 🙂
I think this track should feature in stranger things season 5 trailer! I can imagine Steve dancing to this track in his kitchen.
Hehe thanks! Glad to see you like it! :)
Whered you get the art from?
My wife drew it for me. 🙂
There's a link to the art in the video description.
Is that Dark Groove name below JJ2 in a hard rock style?
More like a gothic one. 🙂
Did you use parts from "Hell freezes over" ?
I don't think so...
If you're referring to the whisper voices in the intro then yea they are from the jazz2 sfx sounds repository, but I don't know if they are from a level in the game.

5:12 - And that, like Anarchic system - Pop corn
Hehe indeed they are! I decided to incorporate some nods to influential electronic tunes from the past. :)

Hehe yes it is! I've added some nice nods to classic electronic tunes. :)
