Hey Karen & Karenfans - I have a puzzle question for you. When I was younger, early 90s - I had a jigsaw puzzle called 'The Worlds Hardest Jigsaw Puzzle' - and the gimmick was that it was a doublesided puzzle and each piece had a small square taken out. On one side of the puzzle was a traditional picture (what it was completely eludes me) -- but the other side of the puzzle was all clock-faces and the squares were the faces of the clocks.
Supposedly you could do the puzzle both ways, the "easy" way was doing the picture, but the hard way was figuring out the pattern of clockfaces. I've hunted for this puzzle, and I really thought it was made by Buffalo since they have the 'WORLDS HARDEST' line with double-sided puzzles, but I haven't been able to find this particular quirk of pieces missing from inside the traditional pieces.
Anyway, if you have a link for some place I could look or maybe even you've heard of it - I'd be super thankful. Thank you for the potential help and all of your great content. 🙂

Also this puzzle is circular and the robot only understands rectangles. Writing a program to solve this is immensely more difficult I would imagine.

Karen, I discovered your channel during COVID-19 lockdown. I don't do puzzles myself these days, but watching you reminds me of my late father, who often had a puzzle underway at one end of the dining table. If there was a big family dinner, we would help him move the puzzle-in-progress off the table -- carefully. We weren't a speed puzzling family -- more of a wander by, place a few pieces, and move on group. When he died, my brothers and I took huge numbers of puzzles to Goodwill. Watching you brings back fond memories.

I don't think I'll be doing the 60th anniversary Springbok, but I do like their puzzles -- especially the round one with all the weird-flavored soda bottles in it. (It's called "Carbonated Colors," and it's really fun.). My favorite images include gradients achieved with actual objects, not blank color fields, and landscapes with bright, colorful gradient skies, like sunsets.
I'm also glad you addressed the loose piece fit of the modern Springbok round puzzles; people sometimes hear of how robust they were in the past and can be disappointed when they get a modern one. I'm also VERY pleased to hear that this isn't the case for their rectangular puzzles! I may pick one up now, knowing that those ones still have that nice strong fit.
ETA: I'm also pleased that you were able to be sponsored by Springbok! Sometimes companies can make people sign exclusivity deals, and I think it reflects well on Ravensburger that they didn't do that.

    Happy 60th, Springbok!
The funny thing for me is that _most_ of the jigsaw puzzles I've solved in my life have been theirs. It totally spoiled me on most other brands! "What do you _mean_ all the pieces fit a nice neat grid? What fun is _that_ going to be?!" It still to this day strikes me as uncanny-valley off-putting to see a jigsaw puzzle that _doesn't_ have "odd piece shapes".

These puzzles are so hard. TBH, it took me at least half the puzzle to wrap my brain around your Puzzles on Puzzles puzzle.

I did the 1975 octagon version when I was 12. I still have it, but over the years of moving, pieces went missing. I glued it but it didn’t hold up. I kept it because it was my favorite puzzle ever. Yes the colors are drab now, but not at the time. It’s still my favorite to this day.

I don't know how people don't know that Springbok is still in business. I see their puzzles in stores often...and I'm in Canada! I am in a couple puzzle groups on Facebook and there seems to be a consensus among members that current Springbok pieces are not as high quality and don't hold together as firmly as onesfrom the first 40 years or so. I have a couple more modern ones that I haven't got to yet so I"ll have wait and see for myself. I still enjoy them either way. Here's hoping they make it to another 60 years!

One of my aunts had the original Puzzler and when she told me about it, I really wanted to try it, but sadly she never was able to find it after she mentioned it to me. I missed your original videos on these puzzles, but after watching this one, I just had to go by the 60 anniversary edition! Can't wait to get it, and definitely will be looking at Springbok's site for more interesting puzzles to do!

My work has been putting puzzles out in the break room for people to work on (I’m the only one that does, and I’m still doing them fast enough that they can’t keep up, so I’m getting repeats), and right now it’s the Bboldin Mosaic puzzle (look it up if you want to see how hard it is [very]). With these kinds of puzzles, I fully agree that staying organized is the most important thing

I did a lot of Milton Bradley puzzles when I was a kid in the 60's. They were typically scenery puzzles and much drabber colors. I subsequently lost interest in jigsaws due to the boring scenes and drab colors. Then in the 80's I discovered Springbok and renewed my love of jigsaws. I like the random cut and prefer then over standard cuts however, I do not like round puzzles, so I veer away from those. I only do then if I like the subject matter. I have many of the puzzle's made by Hallmark when they had the license but did not live in Kansas City at the time. Now I live in KC, and Allied Manufacturing has the Springbok license who is also in KC. However, after contacting them about a tour, they will not allow a tour of the factory stating they make many other products, and the factory is too noisy and not set up to have non personnel in the way of the workers. So still on my bucket list to actually see a jigsaw being made. PS no I would not do any of these puzzles. My favorite Springboks are collages of like things, such as animals, especially cats, vintage toys, flowers, sets of things like teacups, etc. and they have to be bright colors.

I want Springbok to bring back that specific mandala puzzle that's on your shelf so badly! It hurts my heart that it's a vintage rarity. It's so beautiful. I laughed when you said that they suggested to do a more "accessible puzzle for average people" LOL!
I'm attracted to novelty and rarity, so I adore that that's what you tend to focus on more. It's soooo satisfying seeing all,of the Puzzler puzzles lined up like that! And it's even more perfect being on your desk :) Keep being you, Karen! The criticisms may be valid but it sets you apart from the rest and I eat it up every time.
I think my favorite of the four is the 60's puzzle if only for the colors, while the 2000's version would be my favorite as a puzzle in it's entirety. Also the mailing card ad that came in the box was too nostalgic 😂

So here is what I have noticed. I found the Prismagic puzzle (after a puzzle friend found it AND the puzzler II a few weeks prior also) thrifting and looked up your video in hopes I could screenshot a finish of it to help me check if all of the pieces were there. Your video didn't help (reddit did, though) but you stated the price point of that puzzle was about $50. The price point of that puzzle depending on condition is now about double that. I wonder how much influence your videos on vintage puzzles have on the resale market of collectible puzzles...because I think it has got to be significant. Now, if you're already in possession of a bunch of the popular vintage puzzles, then that's great for you...but for those who only heard of them from your videos, well, they may not be so keen on that fact.
I think it's very interesting to learn the history of an industry and I love the information that you provide. I am personally not a huge fan of vintage puzzles (mostly because I am particularly bothered by bad smells and a lot of older items that have sat for years and years are going to smell 'old'...that being said, the prismagic one I found thrifting...for 79 cents!...actually smelled like a sweet laundry detergent or something, almost like they kept it near an area where they fragranced their home or like they put a dryer sheet in the box at some point) but I still find the information fascinating.
While I do understand that there are complaints about accessibility, there is really only so much content to be made about things that are mass produced and readily available today. The historical information that hasn't really been corralled into an easy to access place makes the content on vintage puzzles a lot more interesting.
That being said, if you want to appease some of those naysayers, perhaps you can do videos that I look for but rarely seem to find (at least in the quality that I'd prefer to experience): thrifted puzzles. I know you are provided a significant amount of puzzles from companies and mostly buy vintage, but I love watching thrift hunts and hauls to see what other parts of the country/world and while puzzle thrifting seems to be a popular thing, it doesn't seem to garner a significant amount of content here on youtube. It could make for a nice fluff video (you know, something that doesn't require the huge time investment into research that some of your vintage puzzle videos do) that you piece together when you're near a thrift store in your day to day life and stitch it together eventually, kind of like you do with your haul videos/puzzle mail now. I personally obtain over 90% of my puzzles secondhand through marketplace and thrifting with a mix of new (but usually on sale) and pricier used (ebay, mercari, etc) and as my 79 cent Prismagic (that was complete, by the way) puzzle can attest, vintage puzzles are out there. In fact, I left behind about a dozen full size and mini vintage Springbok puzzles that ALL featured cats or dogs at a thrift store just last week. One caveat, though, is that when I was in Anaheim last month there was almost nothing to be found in the thrift stores...the few puzzles that I did like were ones I had already thrifted. Being that the hub of the speed puzzling world seems to be in and around SoCal, it could be that your thrifting options aren't as great as where I live, but we didn't make it up to Los Angeles (where my husband is from and where his family still lives) on this relatively short visit.
ETA: I also wonder how much your vintage puzzle videos inspired Springbok to create the 60th anniversary edition. My guess is that there was some degree of influence, particularly if they're sponsoring you to feature it!

Hello Karen - great video as always. I believe that the puzzle that was taken back to America was made here in good old Blighty by Waddington's. In fact the images of some early circular Springboks at 16:15 show a few puzzles which were available in the UK through Waddington's and the artwork probably originated here too.
