- Take a short walk around Kennywood Amusement Park in 1952. Start by getting the kids in the car, the parking lot, the entrance, Kiddleland! Nothing new under the sun, is there? Black and White film repaired in places and was scanned at 2FPS. Some lighting adjustments and sound added for effect. Take a trip back. What do you notice? Anything still the same, or different?

Grew up going to Kennywood in the 60's. I don't know if it's the same now, but it still impresses me how many people would bring these big elaborate picnic lunches (and dinners) to the park with them.
We would get there early, and then maybe 2 or 3 o'clock, my Mom would take my sister back to the car for her nap, and then somewhere around 5 or so, we'd head back to the picnic shelter to eat....and my Mom didn't screw around with dinner, she would spend the whole day before making fried chicken and potato salad to take with us in one of those Skotch Coolers that were so popular then.
Thus fortified (between my sister's nap and dinner) we would NEVER leave the park until closing time, and would be walking out to the accompaniment of that "Good Night" song they played over the PA System.
I'm 64 and remember going to Kennywood and West View Parks every year. Back in the days when you didn't need to take out a loan to afford it.
I lived across the street from West View Park for 5 years. Danceland burned down right before we moved to the other side of West View.
I grew up in Pittsburgh and I always went to Kennywood I love the roller coaster I like the ride that we called whipped
Absolutely love Kennywood Park . So many wonderful memories of times spent there .
Footage from the year my dad was born! He grew up going to Kennywood every year for the KDKA employee picnic because PapPap was a camera man at the station. It's amazing to see what the park looked like back then, and to see the same rides my nieces and nephews ride today!
I am 60 years old and my first time at Kennywood was in 1975 . My Family never had money to go there . I went with a Church outing . Maybe 6 or 7 times I have gone to Kennywood Park.
Always looked forward to the Sto Rox school picnic.. it's a fact that not every , school district in the USA has such a event. We are special.
I was looking for the "you have to be as tall as the Howdy Doodie" stand up at the ride entrances. Loved going to Kennywood, especially when it started to get dark and the lights came on.
When amusement parks were simple and affordable! I still love Kennywood! The monkey playing on the Merry Go Round is priceless!! 👍👍❤️
When I go home in the summer I always go back to Kennywood to ride the rides
Are they the ballroom windows behind the Kiddie Whip ?
Yes, original ballroom, I believe
We all know who weren't in attendance in those days 😢
I've been going to Kennywood since the 1960s, and have taken my kids & grand-kids there even though I lived out-of-state. Can anyone tell me more about the chimp on the merry-go-round? Was he a daily fixture there?
