If you spread them to a good depth rolling them down in two or three layers and do it in the spring, after a hot summer they literally set almost as hard as if laid hot.
Our house was built in 1982 in Glendale AZ, a time when you would think things were made a little better. Back in 1997-99, we started seeing a waterfall coming out the expansion joint in the concrete of our driveway. Well we knew what that was since many houses were seeing the same thing about that time. City water dept. comes out and yep, it's their side (meter wasn't spinning so we knew already). They come out and dig up the main, which is on the other side of the street, and whatdya know - black poly tubing, but thick walled. It lasted 15-17 years, but the city replaced it with copper line to the meter. I don't know if the builders lay the utilities, or the city lays them in the Phoenix area back then - but that black tubing I said "I remember that!".because we had the same exact pinhole type leak in it. Also for the valve keys, I've seen the city out exercising the valves, they have some kind of machine that turns the valve for them that comes off the side of the work truck over the cubby boxes, don't see them using manual valves much. Do you guys have those valve machines?
@@azmrblack ya the black Polly was garbage !! Yes we have a valve exerciser , great for 12 inch valves and ones that are really hard to turn , I don’t mind doing 6 inch by hand , these ones worked really well , butterly smoothe lol good work out too 🤣😁🍻🍻🍻
We built a repair facility in phases over several years in a large complex. Depending on if it was a shut off for a building or a hydrant the valves went different directions. They had rules for each and if two valves were next to each other they could turn different directions to close. I am glad I am now retired from construction. Also happy to live on a well. Interesting work.
Had a funny one today, asphalt company filled their roller off of our hydrant and snapped the shaft in the open position. It was a geyser coming out of the tank
Great video. Rare to see a town using a excavator. Around here all are still old school with backhoes some have mini excavators. 160 size excavators is what all decent size towns should have in my opinion.
I wish we'd pick up an excavator for my service department but city hall doesn't wanna fork out the money for an excavator, truck+trailer to haul it as well as sending someone to get their CDL A. We've got an old case 580 for all our digging needs
@@theodorejohnkaczynski9442 our local municipalities only really hire people with cdls already so not sure why they don’t just get the trailer and machine they have the tandems to tow it
Not that you want to hear it from anyone but as a former smoker I get it bud it’s hard to quit. I used a very underrated method. A teaspoon of cream of tarter mixed in orange juice like 12/14 oz and it takes the craving away and also makes cigarettes taste awful. It really is how I was able to quit
Yup that’s what I was saying , I can’t believe the contractors did that kinda shotty work , just gotta shake my head , and I guess it keeps us busy when the rest start leaking lol

Does your municipality use fluoride in the water? I know this summer my water department in my area put out a survey on discontinuing adding fluoride to the water supply.
Why is every body crying about a hydrant wrench the public works in houston uses a pipe wrench to flush the hydrants i could flush the ones on my street but would get a ticket from the police for doing so.

We actually used millings (what we call 'em down here) to pave our parking lots and laydown yard at work. Works like a champ.

Snow sticks to find hydrants and you have to dig them out if they are in front of your house.
It is horrible
We get 4 feet of snow in a single storm
Looking at it I say right is hydrant and left is main since it looks farther back.

Those stainless cotter pins are a pain i like the brass easier to use in tight places
Yet again, quick easy painless!
So the home owner now pays for that fix or how's that work? Once your there it's too late for them to say no its too expensive?

do you have to tell the homeowners before you shut down a whole street main? how many houses does the valve control?
