I put thousands of hours on a JD 450 B track loader. Mine didn’t have the 4in1 bucket but it still moved a lot of dirt to grade. I never had a dozer but still leveled and shaped a lot of projects with a regular bucket. I was a commercial landscaping contractor band did all the rough grading with it and loaded soil into bobtail dump trucks. I sure appreciate your ability to operate equipment I would have hired you in a minute. I’m in my 70’s now and all worn out and wish I could make it out to your place and just watch you repair and operate. Thanks for bring back so many memories.

I'll state from experience that those clamshell buckets really enhance the capabilities of a loader! Can't wait til she get's her pump transplant, you'll probably want to keep her for yourself.

Another excellent video Clint. Kevin is not only a good mechanic, he is also a pretty good videographer!! Sorry to see the fuel pump die but my guess is you were not completely surprised. Seems like you guys could create a paid subscriber program to help the DIY crowd resolve mechanical issues they are encountering too. Chris at Lets Dig 18 gave you a shout out for helping with his D6 radiator replacements. Nice to see you guys helping each other.

Equipment doesn't like to sit, I'll take an older piece that has been run regularly over the same age unit that has very low hours. I use to be the maintenance manager for an oil spill team. Equipment that was run constantly we had very little to no problem with. But I could have a pump or any piece of equipment sit on the shelf for a year right after a major service and would bet you that when we fired it up we would have issues with it. After working around equipment most of my life, one thing I can spot is a company with integrity. C&C Equipment, in my opinion, stands at the top.
    Thanks very much for sharing.

I've enjoyed this series Clint . That little 455 it's going to make somebody a nice little loader. Get the injection pump straightened out and new undercarriage on it, be good to go.
An acquaintance of my grandfather had a 455E . And a single axle Ford dump truck with tag trailer. A lot of the smaller jobs my grandfather couldn't handle he would send them to this guy's way with the 455 John Deere. This guy also bought a lot of dirt from my grandfather through the years.

Funny you mention its like a VW motor (Yes i said motor not engine) Those are what I worked on. Back in the day I could have an air cooled MOTOR out in 10 minutes and the transmission out in another 10. Such were the days of simplicity. I guess thats why I love watching yall work on old school equipment. Keep posting rebuild videos. Longer the better in my opinion. Glad I found your channel through DP and LD18.

Well after refurbishing the engine it certainly is a kick in the YamBag for the injection pump to “defecate the bed” on you while test driving it, but I suppose it’s better that it did it now than after you sold it. One solution which I have used on all sorts of vehicles and stationary engines over the years to replace no longer available molded rubber coolant hoses or for the gold or platinum ones like from Deere for that track-loader is 4 hose clamps a couple short pieces of silicone hose of the appropriate size and 90 degree bend of correct diameter 0.062 or 0.100 mandrel bent piece DOM tubing that I bead roll a lip on each end or weld a bead around each end of the tubing to prevent leaks and or hose clamps from slipping under pressure and vibration. After I have bead rolled or welded a bead around the ends I like to sand blast the tubing inside and out and paint it with urethane enamel like Imron inside and out or dip it some Rust Oleum Tremclad paint that I have thinned out a bit and then hang in front of a heater to dry (which because it’s Rust Oleum paint meant to be brushed on takes what seems like forever. (Note I may or may not shoot the 90 with a epoxy primer if I use urethane enamel but not when I dip it in Tremclad but I have found that sand blasting the tubing to clean it and give it a key is required for the paint to adhere and not flake off).
The 64 dollar question is after getting the injection pump rebuilt and the undercarriage replaced do you have sucker ops I mean buyer in mind with a fat wallet to be the pound new owner of a John Deere 455E Track-Loader that has been expertly refurbished by C&C Equipment. In any event whoever ends up with it will have themselves a nice machine when it’s all said and done.
PS watching you test drive that machine suggests you might have run a track-loader or three before or have stayed at a Holiday Inn Express 😁

He was to railcars as Kevin is to heavy equipment. I don't record anything but Kevin is hot.

Greetings from No VT - That is a super size unit for a lot of situations, lots of power with a compact frame and excellent push, reach, and dump characteristics. Bummer on the pump but when you get that and the under carriage updated this is one impressive piece of equipment. You can legitimately advertise it as a complete rebuild - it will give the buyer a lot of pain free hours of operation.

+C&C Equipment: An excellent video on completing rebuild of the diesel engine and related pieces/parts for this piece of earth moving equipment. Reasonably thorough coverage of the principle components/labor/technical aspects of the rebuild.
Enjoyed all of the video, except _failure_ of the injector pump. Would have thought, given the time/effort/money put into everything else, said pump would have been highly suspect. Accordingly, that injector pump should have been replaced in the process, as well. That said, was not in your position, financial and/or otherwise, so-o-o...
In any event, you have snagged the standard You Tube 'thumbs-up' award. In addition, you've managed to lay hold of the highly-prized, much-sought-after "Old Curmudgeon," three 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 award, for an outstanding video, superbly done and presented.
Looking forward to the _?upcoming?_ video, showing actual _final completion_ of the rebuild/rework required for full restoration of the *_John Deere 455E Track Loader_* .
Best and keep 'em comin', young 'not-so-gentle' men!

  • @davidmorse8432

There is a little ball valve on top of the pump that allows excess fuel to bleed off the pump. Quite often it gets plugged and will not let the pump work properly. Also the leak off line that routes to each injector can get plugged with junk and will keep the pump from working right. Check this out before taking the pump in for rebuild. It could save you a bunch.

      Well thanks for the service
Not sure if I’d want to be in a SEE truck in combat lol

Lol me either, thats why I got out when I did. Not much there for protection. Do you ever have issues with the torque tube on the see ? It always was a problem with the ones we would get. Ft Benning Ga. Kelly Hill ?

Crazy right ! I watched 2 RPG's skip across the road in front of me. Lol those trucks just like everything else in the military are not fast by any means...oh the stories I could tell you about a see truck.

Great video! You tell it like it is, good, bad and ugly! I was afraid something let loose or broke super major by the title and thumbnail! Really glad you had it figured out and can be fixed with more money and time! Kevin's 😬! Thanks for sharing!
