Wooden Keepsake Boxes Made From Scraps

- I made a batch of wooden boxes/keepsakes to sell on my Etsy shop (www.etsy.com/l....
I only used scraps I had around: a few boards of obeche, a lamination of birch slats I had made previously, and some thin strips of mahogany. The bottoms are poplar plywood. The initial milling was a bit of a chore, but the resulting material was good and I got five boxes out of it.
I decided to only use the table saw for the entire process (well, except planing and sanding), because I wanted to put my new Bosch GTS 10 J to the test (result: very accurate and quick). Some of the cuts I show in this video aren't particularly safe, but I was very aware of what I was doing and where my hands were. Remember: YOU are responsible for YOUR OWN safety.

This should be required viewing to all beginners. It confirms that one doesn't need a $5,000.00 table saw to produce beautiful work. Very nicely done. Great design.
Just purchased my first Mitre Saw and tomorrow I'll start on my first mitred box...your video has given me some good ideas...thanks.
He just proved for all the woodworkers out there you DONT need a chop saw to get beautiful mitre corners..
Bravo! So much in such little time with no dialogue.
Loved the angled accent - good job! 👍
Tape before assembling - head slap - so simple
Been in search of a box to build that was simple ( compared to some ) with a unique touch and you have givin me that perfect choice for me to pursue and in return you will get a faithful subscriber . Looking forward to your next video !
I really love how you did that with just the table saw. It took me a minute to follow what you were doing with the angles to turn the grain on the lid. I really like the contrast. The side accent is a sharp idea as well. There are fancier videos out but simple is best for beginners like me. Too many are over my head, skill wise, and too perfect for me to do now. This video encourages me to keep up, imperfections and all and I can do it with the most basic of tools if I spend the time to be as familiar with them as you are here. Maybe add some voice over or a word box to explain some of the steps you took as you went. Again, loved the video and I saved it for future referrals and will subscribe to follow your progress.
Thank you, Jim!
Kia Ora & Good Afternoon from North Shore, Auckland, New Zealand …great video bro …
I love how you use your table saw to do everything!
It's because I'm lazy and I don't want to switch tools 😜
Did you make your lunch with it as well?lol
😀
i never knew how to do inserts like that. Thanks and great video!!
Nice. Tab one end of each piece of tape first before applying them for easy removal.
Very nice. All with a table saw too.
My man making do with the tools he's has, job site saw and all! I love it man keep up the good work!
Beautiful mitre cuts there. Really nice to see someone taking pride with what they do.
Nice job. I like the safety logic
Very nice craftsmanship. I'm shocked that you have not had more viewers. Thanks for sharing your skills.
Thank you so much for your kind words, Warren!
Liked what you did. I’m getting ready to make a couple for graduation presents but not sure how to start. I’ve watched a lot of videos. I really want them to be big enough to hold all the papers they get when graduating. So, 12x9 at the base inside. But your design is good and much easier than a dovetail. I’ll wait until I get better with the router for that one.
Simplicity is beauty
Awesome!!! Will try to make some of these this weekend. Thanks for the inspiration!!
Cool stuff.
Amazing how scraps of wood can be made into something to good
Nice little project
I assume you used sapele for accent strips. Great idea. I expected splines. Thanks

Nice and to the point. New sub from Spain🙂
Very good film. Thanks for sharing. Straight to the point and very easy to follow. What table saw are you using?
It's a Bosch GTS 10j
Nice to have a good video for making a simple box. Question: was the top actually glued vertical layers of a spalted wood, or such?

Ahoj,kde seženu červené dřevo(desky)? Děkuji
are results this good possible without a thickness planer? what tool/technique would substitute?
You could do it with a hand planer, I guess
That is a lovely box . What are the dimensions of the box? I would love to make some. Very good job!!
Thanks Diane! It's about 30x12x12 cm or 11x5x5 inches.
I don't have the equipment you have
Wooden keepsake boxes made from scraps of wood and $5000 in power tools.
You don't narrate anything huh? Be a lot cooler if you did.
