Excellent video. I found the little bit of extra time taken to take it slow and show not just how to make the blueprint but also how they fit together really helped me wrap my head around the whole thing. Keep up the good work!
Hi! I decided to finally buckle down and build a "proper" railroad system for 1.0 and I'm finding your blueprints so INFINETLY helpful! Something to note is that there is an odd boundaries bug with the 2 rail long left/right piece i was fortunately able to fix it by adding on an extra foundation in the blueprint. I have to delete it every time it is place every time but I'm thankful your design wasn't completely bricked as I fell in love with how it looked
Hello and thank you so much! I’m glad they still work even though they have some issues. A good train system makes a huge difference in the later part of the game. Good luck with 1.0!!
I loved how you showed how to create the foundations for the ramps, but you didn't lay any track. How do you lay track on elevated ramps without the track bending into the foundation?
Thanks and you are totally right. I don’t know why I never thought to show that off, I definitely should have. I like to place a short section of track at the top curve and bottom curve. I’ll place the track either 1 foundation or 1/2 foundation on the straight/flat part and then bring it to the ramp and it should go to either the 1/2 foundation or a full foundation depending on what you chose. If you build off that part you should avoid a lot of the track clipping into the foundations
Blueprints save sooo much time. All of this is simple stuff but would take HOURS to do it by hand over a long distance where that just takes a few min's and if you make a routing mistake its simple to delete and try again.
Not sure why but everytime I try to place a catwalk in front of the other and hit control, it merges to the first one, can't find the sweet spot for it
You bring up a great point, thank you! I think I've had this before. While holding control, try scrolling the mouse wheel to rotate it anyways. I think it's rotated 180 and since they snap to the center point of the edge, its right on top of the first one.
My apologies, I may have forgotten to show off how to get the more gentle curves. I learned it from DC_Wan here: ruclips.net/video/ql8-g2o7wFc/видео.htmlsi=nhzes-vorrAjTiDC This will allow you to get smaller increments when turning.
The inside of the curve will definitely have some clipping although the overlap should be pretty small. I try to stick to fairly gentle turns. If you try to make it a sharper turn the clipping gets really noticeable though. With the blueprint they should snap together in default mode pretty easily and be aligned. Blueprint mode won’t work unless you nudge it into place.
@@moo121 I also struggle to create the blue print for the double track curves. I looked at the examples, used the single track blue prints to build the double, tried to masure the grid in the blue print editor, but it just doesn't work. Could you explain that again or show it in another video?
@@danielwilms6919 I think I made the double track in a different way so that it was a more subtle turn and not showing that off was a huge oversight on my part. I am going to make an updated video that will show off how to make it. Sorry about that.
There's the hills... Are there curved hills??? MUHAHAHA!!!!!!! I did see a video, maybe U6, that had spirals and other curved grades. I think the title has 'curved roads' in it. I like my hills to start out with a 1m ramp, transition to a 2m and then 4m if needed. I like to try and reverse out of it too. But, it's no parabola!!!!
lol sounds a little bit like a parabola… :) that would probably give a cool look. I’ve never tried that! I have used spirals for trains before, they are super handy to go up cliffs and what not. I may make a video for those down the road. Thanks for the idea!
One thing you could do when building down with ramps is just zoop a long line of foundation ramps to the point where you want the ramp to stop and build up from there since going up is easier, right? I never used ramp blueprints but I think that should work, probably faster than using walls and foundations to line up every single one.
Hey, thank you. That’s a good idea! I’ll have to give that a try and mess around with it, ramps can have some strange snapping points. Hopefully we get vertical nudging in 1.0 and make this really easy
Hello and thank you for the question. I have noticed some blueprints have a gap for some reason now. If you press H to lock the hologram in place you can use the arrow keys to 'nudge' it into the correct spot hopefully. The other thing it could be is that it does not work in Blueprint Mode. If you use Default they should still be able to snap together easily.
I love your blueprint series! there was a blueprint I saw once, dont remember where, but it was a road that was a 45 degree corner, so you could use 2 in order to get a perfect 90 degree corner. EDIT: for the down ramp, maybe if you created a specific down ramp blueprint, it would be easier to snap since it would start at the top? I dont know maybe im wrong I havent tried it.
Thank you so much! For trains making a 90 degree turn, easiest is to go 3 foundations forward and 3 to the right or left. You can make it smaller. I think the tightest is 17m instead of the 24m that 3 foundations is. So you can totally make some 90 degree turns in the blueprinter. I just have a hard time making that sharp of a turn look good. The ramps and snapping are tricky. I’ll try again, maybe you can add a temp beam to snap to and then delete. Thanks for the suggestion.
@@moo121 well, my suggestion requires a separate blueprint for up and down. you might not want to use an extra blueprint, preferring to use the same one. as it is the walls trick works pretty well.
At 7:44, I cannot rotate the catwalk like in the video. When I hold ctrl it spins the catwalk in place, it doesn't notch it to different angles. I've seen others do this in other videos and for the life of me, haven't been able to figure out why I can't. Any ideas?
That’s a good question! I played around with the catwalks and I did notice they only rotate when you hold ctrl and look at a mid point of the side of another catwalk crossing. They don’t rotate off foundations. If that doesn’t help there is another method of rotating that actually gives smaller increments and smoother turns. ruclips.net/video/ql8-g2o7wFc/видео.htmlsi=WyRjQ5_Bbj15DjP4 DC is another fantastic creator that I’ve learned a lot from.
That’s a fantastic question and thanks for asking, I wanted to talk about this. When using the catwalk crossing and you scroll to change the angle, it moves 10 degrees each time. So each of the blueprints will turn 10 degrees and 9 together will get you a nice 90 degree turn. It will be aligned with the global grid BUT it won’t be on it. It’ll be a few meters off in each direction.
Thanks for the great idea! I think at the time I was afraid it was going to be too repetitive because its built very similarly to the single curve. But in hindsight I wish I spent just a minute on it building one out as an example. I'll probably do another train video down the line and I will definitely keep this in mind, thanks.
@@moo121 I second this. A double curve example would have been fantastic. I can get it to curve just fine, but the walls aren't matching up like yours, and I'm having a hard time figuring out how to get them to look clean. Also, THANK YOU for your videos!!! EXCELLENT work!!!
@@ryanscottnix Thank you so much, I really appreciate that! I think I am definitely going to make another train blueprint video and I will make sure to go over the double curve.
Thank you so much! That’s a great question. One of the nice things about load balancing all my factories is that everything is clocked to the exact amount so all machines should be 100% efficient. That makes my consumption and max consumption exactly the same and it stays a nice steady flat line. I wanted to use trains but they wouldn’t keep those nice flat lines. So my trains and other things that might turn off and on, like overflow sinks, are all running on my first coal power plant to keep it separate. And the power towers carry my main power grid across the world.
I can't argue with that lol. I think it's the first thing I cover in part 2. The newest video, in the pinned comment, is an updated version of these curves and I do remember to build tracks in that one :)
