No problem :) Always loyal since season 7 of the microwave show. After it ended, I jumped to here. I do want to apologize on asking about the Nostalgia Critic that lit a feud with him...
+Jogwheel honesty have to love the Star Trek series and the intro sketches. I had subscribed to your channel since the 10th season of the Microwave Show and once again... You are the most humbled RUclipsr to watch. Question, when is your next Live Time?
Joe V Well, when you're trying to finish a video with over 2,000+ individual edits inside of a few days, mistakes happen. There's literally one in every episode, in fact - see if you can find them! Haha.
One thing I've always appreciated about your movie reviews is your consistent attention to the scoring in films. Too many filmgoers and even professional critics seem to have no idea how much the music influences the quality and enjoyment of a movie. Keep up the great work!
I make a point to mention around 20-items in every review; box office, release date, visual effects, etc. And "music" is one I try to always cover, especially for films like this - where it plays such a huge part of the experience. Thanks for noticing!
Star Trek '09: Solid reboot including casting Nimoy, but standard Abrams tropes and "alternate realities" distract from an otherwise amazing picture. Luckily "distract" is mostly all it does. 8/10 Star Trek: Into Darkness: Good retelling of "The Wrath of Khan" and not as many distracting tropes this time around. Improves more than it messes up, to which both do happen. 9/10
Sindacco98 Any video-game related movies I MUST include? I already reviewed "Super Mario Bros." and "Tomb Raider" in part I of this sub-series. Was going to review at least 5 to coincide with the release of "Assassin's Creed" this winter.
Great intro and reviews as always, Jon. I really need to watch more Star Trek (films and series). It's something I never really paid much care or attention to when I was a kid, but I definitely plan to make up for that sometime. I've seen the reboot trilogy, the first three TOS films, and the odd TOS episode, but nothing beyond that yet. I've got a lot of catching up to do! Anyway, reviews: Star Trek - If you can overlook Abrams' flashy trademarks, then the fantastic cast, well defined characters and thrilling action make this a very satisfying picture. 9/10 Into Darkness - It may not be the Star Trek XII I always wanted to see (looking at you, Simpsons), but it's still a hugely entertaining, if derivative, thrill ride with an excellent Cumberbatch. 9/10 Beyond - A bit below the previous two, but the wonderful characters, narrative and action make this a winning tribute to both the franchise and the late Nimoy and Yelchin. 8/10
Star Trek (2009): A fun reboot that functions as a tribute to the original and a new story for a new generation, while simultaneously preserving the characters from the original. 9/10 Star Trek Into Darkness: A superior sequel with some great action, engaging character drama, and an intimidating performance from Benedict Cumberbatch. 10/10 Star Trek Beyond: One heck of a fun thrill ride! By far the most in line with the tone of the original series, this is one fun film that old and new Trekkies will surely enjoy. 8/10
Can't wait to hear your thoughts on the newer "Star Trek" movies, including the newest one. I really enjoyed all three of them, despite there flaws. It's been a long time since I watched the first two, and it's been a while since I saw "Star Trek:Beyond" in theaters. Great episode as always.
I keep hoping for a "Search for Spock"-like followup to Nemesis where somehow, Data is brought back through the body of B4 (more so than the tiny bit with B4 singing Data's song from earlier in the film); alas, I fear I shall never be granted that wish.
Star Trek Beyond is just plain phenomenal. Not only my personal favourite in the series but one of the best Sci Fi films in recent years, it deserves a spot on the best Sci Fi films ever with Empire Strikes Back, Wrath of Khan, and Alien (Aliens too). 10/10
Eh... he's just sort of an afterthought to that movie. I wrote a quick line about how it seemed they were just rehashing existing Data plotlines, but nixed it for time :)
I really liked Generations. The only thing that really bugs me about that movie is Malcolm McDowell's character. Why did he need to blow up that star to get the Energy Ribbon close to him? What was stopping him from piloting a small craft near it since he knew where it would be? I'm sure since Kirk survived going through it when the Enterprise exploded he would survived if a craft he was in blew up too.
Star Trek '09 review: A Trek of a new generation, a perfect cast and fantastic characters make the film great to watch. The villain is well developed and Hans Zimmers score is awesome. 9/10
I like the first three "TNG" movies, but "Nemesis" has tons of problems. Paramount stupidly allowed Stuart Baird to erase a ton of character-centric moments, which any fan of the franchise will tell you is the heart of the whole thing. They also placed it in direct competition to both "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" and "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers"...so its no surprise the film was annihilated at the box office.
As someone who was a Trek geek in high school (and who still retains some of that geekiness) there's one thing I never understood... In Generations, when they realized that the enemy could penetrate the shields, why didn't they: 1. Rotate shield frequencies or 2. DROP the fucking things and channel that power to the weapons?! We know they didn't do 1 because the weapons kept punching right through the shield bubble. We know they didn't do 2 because there WAS still a shield bubble. There was no mention of any damage that would've prevented them from taking either action... This is the only tactical blunder in the Star Trek films worse than Admiral Kirk's failure to raise the shields when Reliant wouldn't communicate (seriously are we expected to believe JAMES T. KIRK would be THAT naive...?!).
Star Trek 2009: A great looking movie that brings in new fans, and reintroduces the franchise to the silver screen: 8/10 Star Trek Into Darkness: A decent movie, if it has its flaws. Cumberbatch is a good actor, but Khan material? 7/10 Star Trek Beyond: Beautiful, smart, and with a new level of kickass. Somber farewells mixed with new adventures: 9/10
I'm going to have to agree with you on Generations, because you're pretty much on-point for about everything. I still enjoyed the movie, but, yes, it could have been done a lot better. Great review. :)
+cHeStEr5434 When the fifth one comes out, probably! In the meantime, check out the video I did on FeudNation's channel where we debated which was worse, the second film or the fourth.
Oh yes I have seen that video, I'm just really interested in hearing your thoughts on the other films and the series as a whole. But no matter, June 2017 will arrive in no time.
Star Trek (2009) A reboot with a fresh, young, and rambunctious cast. Does everything it has to do to invite a brand new generation of Trekies 8/10 Star Trek Into Darkness- An attempt to recapture the magic of Wrath of Kahn that despite many home run performances, strikes out 7/10 Star Trek Beyond: A returning crew much more mature and refined unites to foil a forgettable villain, yet the closeness of the crew makes this film unforgettable 9/10
I always thought Nemesis had echoes of The Wrath Of Khan too, but also was a very underrated entry. I think the farewell to the the TNG crew was weak though and maybe another film could have handled it better.
Star Trek (2009) A fun new entry in the series. However upon multiple viewings plot holes and scientific inaccuracies become more noticeable. Not to mention the lack of Kirk being a Captain feels like a cop out. 8/10
Star Trek Into Darkness is in my opinion an improvement on the 2009 movie as it extends the story of the new cast further, and I liked Admiral Marcus' military look on Starfleet as it seems like a rare perspective. 9/10
Star trek beyond: Feels more "episodal" than an actual star trek movie. Still decent, though, thanks to its astounding visual effects, and good call backs. 6/10 Star trek '09: This sets up the rebooted universe so well, its not even funny. It gives just enough backstory on everything, and then delivers one helluva punch that will seperate your skull from your flesh. 9/10 Not perfect, but is almost a must see for a star trekkie.
Star Trek Beyond: Arguably the best reboot film to date, it really feels like an old school Trek episode with a great story. Bit of a generic villain though. 8/10
Star Trek (2009) - A well deserved re-introduction to a beloved franchise! Not as slow-paced as the original Motion Picture, instead it's a fast-paced action fest. Fun and exciting! 7/10 Star Trek Into Darkness - Clumsy and has to many "homages" or as I call them for this film: "rip-offs" KHAN! 5/10 Star Trek Beyond - Took three tries, but they finally got it right, just enough action and drama to be an entertaining and fun. Best since "Voyage Home" 9/10
Star Trek Into Darkness - It isn't perfect and may turn into a retread of Star Trek II near the end, but Into Darkness is still a fine film in the series with some great action and likable characters, and was definitely worth seeing in IMAX 3D. 7/10
Star Trek Beyond Review: A fun film with some great character moments, awesome special effects and good chemistry between cast members. Unfortunately a weak villain and a few plot holes keep it from being fantastic. 8/10
thx for another awesomely ha bisky movie review i love these so much i mostly just listened to this then watch it because my sisters dog ate a video game case so i had this case that had all of the windows 95 games in it so i put those into the game cube/wii cases (its also a nice prank)
Having grown up with the TNG show and movies, I feel I may be a little biased, but for me: Generations: 6/10 First Contact: 9/10 (easily the best out of the series) Insurrection: 7/10 (feels like a subpar two hour long episode) Nemesis: 6/10
+The Fumbo Muffin I trust you're joking about the "big" part, haha. And yes, I know Looney Toons was his final effort, which is why I said "penultimate" :-)
Jogwheel I'm just giving you a hard time. Also I'm embarrassed to admit I didn't know what penultimate meant LOL but seriously though keep it up. I'm looking forward to your part 3 this week.
Star Trek XI: The Star Trek: Wasn't the Trek we Trekkies wanted, but I enjoyed what we got. 8/10. Star Trek XII: Into Darkness: A plot that makes no sense. Confuses fanservice with reusing scenes and mischaracterization. 2/10 It would be lower, but Generations exists. Star Trek XIII: Beyond: It felt like the TOS cast in a VOY movie. In a good way. 9/10
Star Trek (2009): This character-driven vehicle masterfully introduces the audience to the new Star Trek universe and its fantastic, witty main cast. The weak villain and shallow plot hardly tarnish an entertaining and respectful reboot, 9/10. Star Trek Into Darkness: The breathless action, intense character moments and compelling antagonist still suffer from an unoriginal plot that gradually loses focus in an awkwardly self-conscious movie, 7/10. Star Trek Beyond: A comparably humble planet adventure with lower stakes and a plot right out of one of the TV series. The usual great character moments and fast-paced action are offset by the foreseeable story and a rather bland villain, 7/10.
Star Trek Into Darkness Review: A worthy sequel but closer to a remake of Wrath of Kahn than an original film. Cumberbatche's Kahn is a good casting choice and again, the score by Hans Zimmer is awesome. Great but not fantastic. 8/10
Star Trek (2009): Fast paced, well directed action movie. Does not feel quite like proper Star Trek, but an enjoyable watch none the less. 8/10 Star Trek Into Darkness: A good watch but is overloaded with so many references to classic Trek that is takes you out of the movie. 6/10 Star Trek Beyond: The best of the rebooted films.A return to form for Trek with the spotlight pointed on Kirk, Spock, and McCoy as it always should have been. 9/10
Star Trek '09 - 3/10 - Cast too young, lighting too bright, unnecessary reboot Star Trek Into Darkness - 1/10 - Offensive to any long-time Trek fan, all action no plot Star Trek Beyond - 8/10 - They finally got one right, looking forward to more if they are like this. The first of the reboot series to actually care about the characters. Ending was a bit lame.
Sorry but Beyond was way too focused on explosions over plot. The fast and Furious director did a terrible job IMO. especially that cringeworthy Music disrupts their communication scene
dear john paula. i seriously do not think that you would turn to violence if you had a different past. petty crime maybe. (i know i did for a time and by the grace of what ever gods may be i never got caught. i have since quit all that seeing as how i nolonger have any need to. but this is not about me it is about you) there is more than just education systems at play in a persons development as a person. their parents and grandparents and rolemodels come into play. its the entire environment. Would you have ended up a bit more cynical and angry as a person? maybe. a criminal? i seriously doubt it.
Star Trek [2009]: (7/10) Exciting entry point to the franchise for uninitiated. Old fans' mileage will vary. Star Trek Into Darkness: (5/10) Effective action, unjustified re-using of "Wrath of Khan" plot elements, plus a highly offensive 9/11 truther subtext, make for a disappointing sit. Star Trek Beyond: (7/10) Surprisingly respectful celebration of Star Trek, but not as good as others.
Of these four, I've only seen Generations (sad, I know, since I've seen all of TNG and love it). I'd give it a 6/10 as well. It's decent, and nice to see Kirk again, but just a bit boring.
Star Trek 2009 - too much lens flare, and I did not like alternative universe thing to much 5/10 Star Trek into darkness - I thought it was fantastic when I saw it in theatre, however I haven't seen it since then 7/10 Star Trek beyond - imo so far the best of the JJverse films, with great special effects and a ton of great references to tos I rate it a 9/10
I know Nemesis and Generations get a lot of hate, and I understand why, but for me Insurrection is the worst of the movies. I lost all interest in it when they said Data didn't take his emotion chip with him -- the chip that two movies ago FUSED INTO HIS NEURAL NET AND COULDN'T BE REMOVED. That right there told me they didn't care about continuity, and the humour was too childish to work. Add on the "quaint primitives" being held as superiour, the antithesis of Trek, just rubbed me the wrong way.
WRT Nemesis, yeah, I don't buy the narrative of "This is what Picard could have been." Um... yeah. Genetics do not make the person. It's essentially saying if you were raised differently, you'd be different. Well, duh! If you take identical twins, have one raised by rich parents, and the other by poor people, you better believe they'll be different people because, well, THEY ARE. It wants to be deep, but the premise is so obvious that it just falls flat. People are more than just genes, they are the sum of their experiences as well. You change the experiences, you have a different person. That is just obvious. Besides, I'm going to disagree about Q being Picard's Nemesis. An antagonist, sure, but no -- his actual Nemesis was the Borg. I'm going to agree with SFDebris that First Contact WAS the TNG equivalent to TOS's Wrath of Khan. Trying to create a from-scratch Khan for Nemesis was just the wrong decision. Let's not even get into Data's treatment here... can't create more than one transponder my @$$...
Nemesis is so bad, it makes almost the JJ crap look good. The Nexus looks more like hell. First Contact could have been 7/10, but because of the Borg Queen I rate it -50/10. Insurrection is the least shitty ST movie. But overall all ST movies are a waste and stupid.
Thanks for watching!
No problem :) Always loyal since season 7 of the microwave show. After it ended, I jumped to here. I do want to apologize on asking about the Nostalgia Critic that lit a feud with him...

Thanks Evan! Means a lot coming from long time fans like you and NinjaWarriorRabbids :-)
+Jogwheel honesty have to love the Star Trek series and the intro sketches. I had subscribed to your channel since the 10th season of the Microwave Show and once again... You are the most humbled RUclipsr to watch. Question, when is your next Live Time?
The budget for Generations...$35..."clumsy" typo xD. No wonder why the movie sucked! In all seriousness, great reviews all around here, Jon.
Joe V
Well, when you're trying to finish a video with over 2,000+ individual edits inside of a few days, mistakes happen. There's literally one in every episode, in fact - see if you can find them! Haha.
So I just had my wisdom teeth out, and I'm high on painkillers, and your "$60" typo on the budget for Nemesis had me in stitches.
+Dog Years haha, glad I could bring some unitnetional humor :-)
+Dog Years haha, glad I could bring some unitnetional humor :-)
Best intro yet Jon!
+Feud Nation a biased opinion, but I'll allow it!
That was pretty funny
It's just too bad the LCARS graphic says NCC-1701-D
I didn't realize the budget for star trek generations was $35.
One thing I've always appreciated about your movie reviews is your consistent attention to the scoring in films. Too many filmgoers and even professional critics seem to have no idea how much the music influences the quality and enjoyment of a movie. Keep up the great work!

The first movie cost $35 (2:03) and the last cost $60 (17:41). Not a bad budget!
On your information tab of the first movie it says the budget is 35 dollars and the run time is spelled as minutesZ.
I saw this was 23 minutes so I paused it and said "I need a bag of popcorn for this". LOL
+jfolck1886 haha, awesome!
Star Trek '09: Solid reboot including casting Nimoy, but standard Abrams tropes and "alternate realities" distract from an otherwise amazing picture. Luckily "distract" is mostly all it does. 8/10
Star Trek: Into Darkness: Good retelling of "The Wrath of Khan" and not as many distracting tropes this time around. Improves more than it messes up, to which both do happen. 9/10
Love that intro Jon, "Number 1, I have to take a number 2" then Riker's face lmao.
These are amazing reviews, Jon. I love all of these films, but I can't wait for the reboot series reviews.
I lost it at "Number One, I have to take a number two. You have the conn."
im not sure if you have or have been planning on doing this but recommend that maybe you could review movie based on video games.
I am planning this!
Alright cool

Farcry and mortal combat
Hey, Jon. When are you releasing the next Movie Night episode?
Hey, Jon. When are you releasing the next episode?
Wow I didn't know Star Trek: Generations was 118 minutesz long. Small typo, but I bet you can fix it for the archive.

Jon I know it's a random question but What did you think of "Star wars Knights of the old republic"
Adam and you rocked it!
3:22 - Stewart and who now? ;) Another great episode.
Jon you should have wait to do westerns for the manifest 7 or you can do western remakes like true grit and 3:10 to Yuma
Star Trek (2009): A fun reboot that functions as a tribute to the original and a new story for a new generation, while simultaneously preserving the characters from the original. 9/10

It was actually synced up! Yay for the small things
My videos are ALWAYS synced up though, haha :-)
That problem was on your-end last time :)

You should also do Galaxy Quest - since it's an unofficial Star Trek movie.
I have! You should watch, ruclips.net/video/4UpOrIryoVo/видео.html
Star Trek '09 review:
A Trek of a new generation, a perfect cast and fantastic characters make the film great to watch. The villain is well developed and Hans Zimmers score is awesome. 9/10
The double typo on Generation's info, with that rating I would've thought you were just trolling the movie on purpose. XD
Haha, certainly not.
Another great video Jon.
Karl Urban had to make sure Nemesis would fail, so he could be cast as McCoy in the reboot a few years later.
As someone who was a Trek geek in high school (and who still retains some of that geekiness) there's one thing I never understood...
In Generations, when they realized that the enemy could penetrate the shields, why didn't they:

Star Trek Beyond: A great sequel that shows the Enterprise at it's best - Beyond is what the first two films should have been. 9/10.

Star Trek Beyond: A comparably humble planet adventure with lower stakes and a plot right out of one of the TV series. The usual great character moments and fast-paced action are offset by the foreseeable story and a rather bland villain, 7/10.
Generations 7/10, First Contact 10/10, Insurrection 8/10, Nemesis 6/10
Great video
Star Trek Into Darkness Review:
A worthy sequel but closer to a remake of Wrath of Kahn than an original film.
Star Trek Into Darkness: A good watch but is overloaded with so many references to classic Trek that is takes you out of the movie. 6/10
Star Trek Beyond: The best of the rebooted films.A return to form for Trek with the spotlight pointed on Kirk, Spock, and McCoy as it always should have been. 9/10
nemisis was made with sixty dollars and made 67 million wow
Star Trek (2009): A solid film with a good cast and amazing music, but it never truly gripped me and was occasionally contrived - 6/10
The fatal flaw of all the TNG movies is Data!
Star Trek '09 - 3/10 - Cast too young, lighting too bright, unnecessary reboot
Star Trek Into Darkness - 1/10 - Offensive to any long-time Trek fan, all action no plot
Star Trek Beyond - 8/10 - They finally got one right, looking forward to more if they are like this. The first of the reboot series to actually care about the characters. Ending was a bit lame.
Sorry but Beyond was way too focused on explosions over plot. The fast and Furious director did a terrible job IMO. especially that cringeworthy Music disrupts their communication scene
Star Trek: While some eyerolling moments, this was an interesting way to reboot the franchise. Pine and Quinto were amazing, but Bana was not. 8/10
dear john paula.
i seriously do not think that you would turn to violence if you had a different past. petty crime maybe. (i know i did for a time and by the grace of what ever gods may be i never got caught. i have since quit all that seeing as how i nolonger have any need to. but this is not about me it is about you)
there is more than just education systems at play in a persons development as a person. their parents and grandparents and rolemodels come into play. its the entire environment.
Star Trek 2009 - too much lens flare, and I did not like alternative universe thing to much
5/10
Star Trek into darkness - I thought it was fantastic when I saw it in theatre, however I haven't seen it since then
7/10
Star Trek beyond - imo so far the best of the JJverse films, with great special effects and a ton of great references to tos I rate it a
9/10
First Contact is still the best Star Trek movie overall, so.... And I don't understand the hate for Generations and Insurrection.
Thermians all the way.
Love me some Galaxy Quest.
Your welcome
great reviews! You couldn't have just showed the clip of Picard saying the line? i didn't want to hear you butcher it twice
Hahah, fair point. Usually, I just read the quote myself as it's less of an interruption - but in this case I probably shouldn't have :)
I think you just really love that line ha ha. Great videos though! You got a new subscriber!
WRT Nemesis, yeah, I don't buy the narrative of "This is what Picard could have been."
Um...
BRING BACK THE MICROWAVE VIDEOS
STFU.
Jon I love your videos but dont have time to watch 23 minutes...make some shorter reviews pls
+tinytimme The reviews are never longer than six minutes though! If you prefer shorter uploads, check out the /MovieNight channel.
Borg
Generations was 118 minutesz? The z stands for ZZZZZ?
Nemesis 10 to me!!!
Star Trek Into Darkness: Uninteresting from start to finish with hamfisted fan service every step of the way. Cumberbatch is a terrible Khan. 4/10
I️ know why you get no views
Oh you do?
The Q
TNG movies are horrible, feature length episodes which had no place in theaters
