What I like about your gear is how beaten down it looks. There is simply nothing more beautiful than used gear, grinded down by lots of use.

Thanks Matt! always glad to share some tips! I'll post a pic of my trad rack soon! I don't use cams because I mainly climb limestone so it's all nuts and slings for me. but it works great. can't wait to try out the new chalk!

I wish I could join said contest, but my trad rack is still shiny. I bought mostly DMM gear and that is thanks to your trip to their factory. My engineering background was rather impressed with their set-up.
I climb on sketchy limestone so I am still looking for cams that won't pull out under bodyweight in anything but bomber placements. Totem seems to be an option but they are hard to get in Canada.

Matt you said that the grigri was auto-locking where this is not true. It is assisted breaking just not to give new climbers the idea they can let go of the dead rope.

True thing, NO belaying device is autolocking, they're just break assisted!

Cam sizes would have been the most useful to know

My definite most sexy addition to the trad family are the DMM Alpha light draws. What a fantastic biner, and with the different lengths they are just the best trad slings out there. Unfortunately for me, I did not have enough sports slings on my current trip to Sardinia. So I had to sprawl around with the DMM's like one of the academics at the crag. But, they have yet to be showing any signs of wear!

To carry the trad equipment I would recommend the Zodiac gear sling!

Consider the new Black Diamond C4 Cams, size #1, size #2 rocks. I build them on the assembly line at Black Diamond and they are light weight with good quality.

You could really do with thinking about your wording on things, Referring to a 4CU as a dual axle cam is just wrong, so is referring to a grigri as an autolocking device and Black Diamond Bug, there is no such thing. DMM Bug and BD ATC.

Great videos! Why do you dislike Scottish winter so much? (I've never done it so curious to get what it's all about)

    • @emiltjonneland721

Because it's absolutely miserable for the hike in it's usually raining so by the time you get the base of the climb everything you brought is soaked. Thankfully now that you're at the base of the climb where it's snowing so it's arguably less miserable but now all of your gear doubles as an ice block, however, you are not likely to notice this as you are probably to busy worrying about all the spindrift and ice the relentless wind is showering down on you. That's a typical Scottish climb.

I'm suirprised you don't having any alpine draws, rather than using slings to extend gear. Can keep them short for regular placements or extend them to reduce rope drag, then get to save your slings for threads, spikes etc. One bit of gear I really want to get is a DMM revolver, put it on a large sling, perfect for taking the rope drag out of drastic changes of direction like traverses.

Hi! Don't you use a series of Totemcam? For holes and shallow crack are fantastic, because they bend like the "basic" totemcam! I use it in Italy on limestone where often there are not straight crack but many holes.

No one gives a toss about trad limestone. Only crazy Italians. :P
