The thumping and bouncing of the floor -- that's how I used to go to sleep as a little girl. My parents both played. My mom accordion, my dad guitar. The adults would throw coats down under the tables and us little gaffers, once we got tired of dancing, would pass out asleep to music and dancing, the floor bouncing. To this day, I can go to sleep no matter how noisy it is, pretty much anywhere. Good memories, those!
That's one of the best ways a childhood can be. I grew up similar - with my father often playing accordion after supper on the table in the kitchen. (He played many instruments but this was his favourite one.) On the other hand he, my a bit older brother and me were regularly playing small pieces of Mozart, Telemann, Händel, Bach (I'm german) on recorders (I was 5 and had the Alto). Now I'm 62 and have played and still play several instruments for all my lifetime. My big love is the guitar, many different styles from classic to blues to rock to swing to irish folk... But I also play a low D whistle (amongst other flutes, saxophones and much more). I love Irish folk music for many many years from the moment I heared it for the first time because of its energy and joy of life. And this performance here is really brilliant.
My first wife hated this style of music. Couldn’t understand why it had all those notes. Always told me how many bills i could pay if i just sold that fiddle. It was amazing how i found my third wife, she was jamming in a pub. Married her and jamming together 16 years now
This set is just brilliant! I didn’t come across this kind of music until my early twenties, when my brother-in-law gave me a Planxty album. It blew my mind. For some strange reason, it took another 20 years before I took up the Irish wooden flute. Been playing it for over 30 years, now. I’ll get good at it, one day.
I challenge anyone to listen to this and not tap their feet, bob or clap along to the music. So brilliant, happy and uplifting, this kind of music never fails to make me smile
Things I absolutely love about this set: Twice you modulate up; your rhythmic drive is brilliant, just enough push without letting it snowball out of control; each of you brings an incredible unique-yet-complementary musicianship to the performance. Just wow.
This is SOOOO GOOD!!!!!! You guys are such a solid group and I love the unique flare you bring to the music. You are all feeling the music right to your bones!
@CaitlinWarbelow Oh my congratulations to the 1M+ views over 10 years!! I come back to this one regularly. Such an amazing arrangement and how it flows from one song to the next. Hope y'all are doing well.
Even with how many times I’ve listened to this specific clip and all the times I’ve listened to you guys play versions of this set over the years, it still makes me absurdly happy!
This is the catchiest medley ever!!!! I’m a fiddle player as well, and every time I listen to this it makes me take my fiddle out :) Thank you! Lovely job!
Things like this are totally the reason why I decided to start learning the fiddle 2 years ago. I can only dream of being like this one day. Best get practicing!
My god. This video is a perfect encapsulation of what makes being a human being in this place and time so amazing: balancing virtuosity and team-work, nonverbal and verbal communication, tradition and innovation, the ascendance of women to equality with men, the blending of cultural traditions, the stunning expertise of fingers flying on the fiddle and the low-tech, ages-old drumming of feet on the floor, and the thrill of mixing careful practice with free-flowing improvisation. I could listen and watch this on a loop forever. Thank you for sharing it. Rollicking perfection.
Big breath from me while reading this comment from you - THANK YOU, THANK YOU for these words. This makes all the hard work over all the years worth it. I am so glad you like the video and the tunes. :) :)
Epic. A beautiful melody and no less exquisite performance. Greetings from Poland, from the city of Będzin where the Celtic Music Festival has been held for many years and where the "Galway" dance group comes from
I can't get tired of this video. Each time I listen to it, I find new stuff from the violins... BTW those leaves on the middle window dancing to the reels.
I'm glad I did that :D I have an irish band here in Argentina, we've been playing for the last year. We are trying to play this same set but we are really struggling trying to learn by ear the last part of Reconciliation. That final phrase going down the scale on part B is a nightmare. @@EmiFolkMusic Oh wow!! That's so cool. Where in Buenos Aires is your session? I was there a few years ago on vacation and loved it. Would love to come back. Do you have an Irish music festivals in the area? Perhaps I can come see about getting a gig! :)
@@CaitlinWarbelow We have the session at La Plata city. You can check it here instagram.com/irish.session.lp/ No, we don't have a festival here, there are not many bands (we are three or four bands in this city). But if you someday comeback you will be very welcomed at the session :D

@@dukadarodear2176 I hate to be a party pooper, but "The Reconciliation" is indeed, as most of tunes in A now rooted into Irish tradition, a glorious Scottish reel. Nothing against Irish fiddle, but to me taste Scottish fiddle is far superior both on technique and sensitivity. Cheers.
i've been listening and studying this for a year. I will never get tired of it. NEVER! it's because of the harmony and the rhythm guitars. they PLAY with the tune. Like you're supposed to. Take this purists!
