While I'm not entirely opposed to your statement. I have to admit, regarding animated movie villains, Mark Hamill and his work as the Joker surpass Gary's work in unsurmountable ways.
When i was a little kid, i felt kung fu panda 2 was darker than the first movie and i felt that Shen was one of the reasons why the movie was darker than part 1. And looking back now, i think Gary Oldman nailed the role of Shen.
Same, when i was a little kid i don't really care about the villain and the motive but i really felt the serious tone in the 2nd movie even when i don't really know whats happening and it gave me goosebumps for no reason. But looking back back now, i think it's because of how good shen as a villain. You can really feel the emotion in this film
Shen was creepy because of Gary Oldman's voice work. On paper he could've a good villain, but with Oldman voicing Shen, he became such a terrifying threatening villain

I'm amazed at how much passion and work he put into this role. Just watching him you know he's focusing all of his energy and talent into the voice of his character..and it totally payed off. I've never really been into Kung Fu Panda..but when I saw the second movie I was blown away at how amazing the story and characters were developed. That's not something you find a lot of movies these days. Mr. Oldman is a treasure and I hope Dreamworks sees that and brings back this character!

@@souhiyori8032 I have not seen it for a long time, because let's say that I have matured in that aspect, but since it is a movie from my childhood, I have a lot of affection for it and maybe in the future I will see it again, what I do know is that I have children, this will be one of the movies that I will put them.
It's kind of funny that Lord Shen is basically the Animal/Animated version of Lord Voldemort in Harry Potter when it comes to ideology and determination as a villain, that he also so happens to have portrayed Sirus Black in it 💯
