I’m just happy to a ride that rivals Millennium Force in my home park. Back in the early 2000s kings island didn’t any elite coasters. It’s nice not needing to go to cedar point every year
I was a long time CP junkie, but when I finally got to Kings Island in 2009 I started to think I liked it better as a park, it was just missing one or two more marquee coasters well the last decade or so has seen KI get 3 really good coasters. As much as I have mad love for Millie, I do agree that Orion has the slightest of an edge on her and it is the claimshell restraints and insanely good airtime.
The one aspect that I clearly give to Orion is the layout. It gives a nice variety of elements by comparison to Millennium Force. It comes down to personal preference, if you prefer how Millennium is able to maintain its speed vs Orion's variety of elements at the cost of the pacing. Orion does that very well, but plenty of non-gigas do it better, which is probably why many people don't give it proper credit for this aspect. I think that Millie does the maintaining of speed better than almost any other coaster out there, which I think is the reason it stands out in the minds of many people. This is probably the reason why I personally have Millie ranked far above Orion. Personally, although I do love the clamshells, those Intamin t-bars are my favorite restraints on any coasters, other than buzz bars or the Iron Rattler-NTG restraints.
I know Millie doesn't do all that much but it does always make me grey out on the first drop and overbank. The same can't be said about Orion. That ride just goes fast and has one good airtime moment (two if your sitting in the back). Millie for me
I really like how Millie gives you time to enjoy its speed in parts instead of just throwing you up over hills. Both have good restraints but Orion is less cramped. Orion may not have much airtime but its more than Millie. Also, I'll take the disappointing not-quite-a-wave-turn on Orion over graying out on Millie's overbank. Why do people like that? I often have them tied but if I have to choose, I'm going with Orion.
I was actually tickled to death to see you put Orion over Millenium force. I've said it was better since the first time I rode it. it's not that Millenium is a bad ride... Orions just better. It just is. To be honest, Orion is my number two over all out of the rides I've been on. Granted, I only have 58 credits.. But still.. I think it's my favorite Giga I've ever been on... Full disclosure, I've not got to ride Fury yet. But when it comes to Millenium force, I just feel like Orion is better in EVERY way EXCEPT duration.
Never been on either but I will say I’m much happier that my home park Knott’s Berry Farm is rumored to be getting a B&M Giga like Orion rather than something similar to Millennium Force. I loved Mako at Seaworld Orlando so add 140 feet to that and I’m 100% on board.
@@ArrowThrills knotts makes cedar fair a lot of money, we deserve this kind of investment. The leaked blueprints look legit and there is plenty of parking on the other side of beach Blvd. Now the nearby residents need to not hassle the city council about it -_-

Anyways I'm glad Knotts Berry Farm is getting a Giga Coaster I've would have never expected that in a million year's

Excellent posit - XScream bud. I'm gonna say Orion. I've only ridden Millie, but, it's like The Phoenix. Ya, they're both great. But they don't deserve the award, EVERY YEAR. How old are the voters for Golden Ticket, anyway?
I got to ride both of these one day apart last summer. We did CP one day and then KI the next. And maybe I’m just getting old and was a bit sore from CP but I found Orion painful at that speed. I don’t even know why but while it’s forceful, I didn’t find the forces comfortable or enjoyable. I preferred Millie significantly over Orion for that reason.
Millennium was all about speed, think that what cedar fair wanted for that ride. I just went for the first time this weekend on Orion, it made me really light headed on some spots (i didn't care for that really). I really like the restraints on Orion and Diamondback but I wish the seat backing wasn't so tall. It takes away from the views. You don't really see the drop much unless you're in the front seat. I honestly thought Orion was boring, it felt like the trains lost significant amount of speed after the second hill, and a lot of the transitions wasn't smooth at all. I don't know if that's just a thing with B & M coasters, cause if you look at gatekeeper or Valravn those trains struggle and get rattily as they do different manuavers. Intamin tries to get you into a barrel roll they try to have your center of rotation around your chest so you aren't thrown everywhere and you don't pass out. The only reason I would want to come back to Kings Island would be to ride the beast. I thought the beast was going to be a boring ride, but the constant feeling of the train derailling made it fun.
I can't disagree with anything here. Orion is the better coaster. The only knock on Orion is that it's a little short, which is the best negative to have if a coaster is going to have one.
orion has 4 really good elements, the first drop, the speed hill the airtime pop after that and the off axis airtime pop at the end. the wave turn was so disappointing. i rode it like 20 times or more in 2021 and when it was a colder like 55 degree morning holy crap did it run slow no airtime at all
Fun facts: Orion is like the"black women" of giga coasters Like us black women, everyone have mixed opinions about us, we are unique, and in the end we are fantastic 😊👏🏾
I don't know why people get so worked up about the possibility that Orion is better than Millennium Force. Millie was the original/prototype, a massive experiment, by the time they built Orion they had two decades of feedback on what people like and don't like on enormous rides. With that advantage, Orion *should* be better, and it's a testament to the amazing job Intamin did that it's debatable. A few times during the video I was wondering if some of the criticisms of Millie's are because it was the first one and they didn't know yet what to do (and what not to do) with it, and how Intamin would change things if they were re-designing it today.
I went about a decade without riding anything life happens. But since the fall when my Sister bugged me into getting a pass for a Kings Island sale I'm obsessed like I was when I was a teenager and in my early 20's. 40 now. Orion is what blew my mind and got me hooked during Halloween Haunt nights. I rode Millennium Force for the first time ever this past Saturday for opening day early ride time. That view of Lake Erie is one of the best experiences I've ever had. I absolutely loved the ride but this is review is dead on. Orion gets the slight nod from me. Don't know if its because Orion gave me that feeling first but that was my experience. Both coasters 10/10 in my personal ratings though.
"The nostalgia factor is strong with this one?" Interesting that you allude to "the Force" while many ignore that and call her Millie. You're a real coaster Jedi, Derrick.
It might be because of it's age, but the reason MF gets some "meh" reviews I think is because it's inconsistency in the way it runs. Last August for instance it felt slow the entire month. In late September it felt blazing fast and was still one of the if not the best experiences in the park. When it was running quick I've never seen so many people go for repeat rides at the end of the night
Overall I agree that Orion>Millie. The one big area that I disagree on is the first drop. Here are the objective stats: MF's first drop hits -.65g and lasts approx 2.5 seconds from .5 to.5 or 1.8 at or below 0. This is approximately average from ~10 force recordings and from the back row. Orion's first drop hits -.4 and lasts approx 2.7 seconds from .5 to .5 or 2.4 at or below 0. Also an average from many force recordings in the back. The more continuous/circular curve of MF's first drop leads to a spike in the forces to get lower negative g's, where as the more parabolic drop of Orion gets you to the desired force (0g for front, -.4 for back) and sustains that force for a bit over 2 seconds. The subjective part is whether you prefer longer more sustained negative g-forces or slightly less in duration, but a harder spike in negatives. I generally prefer the latter, especially on first drops. This is basically the B&M parabolic design language vs Intamin and RMCs more continuous/circular design language and is what makes the difference between long sustained floating/uplifting negatives that hit a particular force and sustain or the more u/v shaped forces where you have a spike into stronger ejector airtime, but it doesn't last quite as long. With this said, I'm of the opinion that the two large airtime hills on MF to and from the Island are too tall. You are very close to 0g and even when running fast only peaks about -.25, whereas after the turn-around on Orion everything is hitting close to or beyond -.5 (-.7 peak). Since I prefer airtime first (and snappy transitions seconds, which neither has), then overall I prefer Orion. Positives do not really affect me (not even I305), but I could see how some may prefer the stronger positives of MF (peak - 4.5 for MF 4.1 for Orion) in the first drop's pullout and overbank. I think MF is propped up by nostalgia and hype. There was nothing like it when it came out and for years afterwards. It was my favorite coaster for almost 10 years, until I rode Diamondback. If Orion would have opened as the first Giga and had 20 years of hype and nostalgia around it, I bet there would be no question that it's the better ride. MF is still a great ride, so I'm not trashing it. Last, I305 kills them all. Fury is slightly better than Orion due to number of elements and duration, even though Orion is more forceful, but neither can do what I305 does. A giga SHOULD be intense and I305 feels like what a 300 foot roller coaster should feel like. It also has plenty of sub -1 ejector airtime as well.
I think Orion’s drop is better. Orion and Fury give me the greatest sensation of falling on a coaster. You feel like you’re going to hit the ground on those coasters almost like a drop tower.
I think MF's view and scenery go far beyond one score point, it affects everything. It actually makes it better in a way that the ride isn't too busy and has speed as most of its intensity. It would be almost just a giga S:RoS anywhere else, but there it is truly special. All the more apples vs. oranges of ranking coasters. I'll give Orion a better view than Fury though! I could really like it.
You forgot to give Millennium Force a point for accessibility because it has a 48 inch height requirement and allows foot casts and forearm casts. Orion does not allow casts of any kind and has a 54 inch height requirement.
Honest opinion I’m amazed on my end that Millie is still so smooth 21 years later. That’s the thing that blew me away the most and I enjoyed it again after waiting 21 years to reride it again. Compared to Orion (to me) was difficult to decide between the both, but it’s best summed up like this: if you want speed Millie will be the better choice, you want the airtime, then Orion will be the better choice. Plus I do think they are the best blue coasters I’ve ever rode so there’s that lol Dillon
Still have yet to ride Orion but I’m definitely a fan of Millennium Force! I honestly think I’m going to like Orion better for the airtime but Millennium Force’s views are exceptionally good so it’ll be tough
The view on Millie is unbeatable! It’s gorgeous. My first time riding it last year, and I could’ve cared less about the ride haha. The view is amazing.
I’ve done both. I prefer Millie personally, for its amazing location, great airtime moments, and l actually find it to be intense and not forceless, no it’s not as intense as I305 or Fury, but definitely more than Orion. Orion is still a fantastic ride though.
I think I will like Millie better for its showcase of speed (haven’t been on Orion yet though to be fair) and the length. However, objectively speaking, pretty sure Orion is the “better” coaster. Better profiling, interesting elements, modern. But I like what I like!
I got to ride both within days of each other last year, and while I have always enjoyed Millie, Orion just seems to be a better experience, in my opinion. When I think of pacing on a ride, I think about how one element flows into another, not feet per second. By that metric, Orion doesn’t seem to have any drawn out sections where nothing happens. I would also add that Orion has much less down time than Millie, and the ride ops are unmatched. That thing eats up lines like nothing I’ve seen before.
For years I thought Millie was good but somehow last year, it rocketed up my list. Riding it in the front row completely changed my feeing about the ride in a good way. Orion is great don’t get me wrong but personally I’m just not the biggest fan of floater airtime focused rides like Orion. I think it’s really good but Millie scratches my itch a bit more in terms of the design and elements that I most enjoy. It’s also why I’m also not the biggest lover of Diamondback. I’m much more of a Banshee/Mystic Timbers guy
Milly's song is the best song of all time, especially with the stuff on the radio and the vastly overrated Beatles, but I like where you voted on everything. Great analysis
These are the only gigas I’ve ridden so far. I used to love Millennium Force but with Orion being closer to home, Ive been able to get more rides on it than MF so I’d give Orion the slight edge. Nice review!
Neither ride is perfect, but they’re still elite in my opinion. Of the four gigas I’ve ridden, Orion ranks at 4, Millennium Force at 3, I305 at 2, and Fury 325 at 1.
I prefer Millennium Force (#6 overall), it has my favorite first drop of all time and it felt a fair bit faster (maybe because it's more low to the ground). Still though, Orion is my #9 overall so it's still damn good.
I have Millennium Force at #28 and Orion at #30 in my rankings. I prefer the Orion first drop slightly, but I think the setting for Millennium Force is much better. Milly has the better pacing as well. I think the air time isn't favoring either coaster once you get past the first drop.
It's hard to say for me. I feel like MF takes the slight edge because of the mythos and location by the water and the longer ride. But it's hard to say- both trains are awesome, fun station atmosphere (Orion has theming, MF has iconic music and train flybys), and good airtime moments.
I've not ridden Orion but I've ridden Millennium Force and Leviathan and prefer Millennium Force to Leviathan, and I even like Behemoth better than Leviathan! I'd probably like Diamondback better than Orion (and possibly also Millennium Force)
Millenium is definitely more exhilarating just because of the speed and pacing, orion was fun but b&m coasters never seem to have the same affect as intamin for some reason. Orion has almost as high of a top speed but it just doesn't feel as fun
Orion for me. I much prefer the theming and layout of Orion over Millennium Force. The only thing Millennium Force has over Orion (besides nostalgia) is its setting next to the lake and on Millennium Island and the sense of speed. Orion is more of a complete package. All of my GP friends who have ridden both all prefer Orion. The clamshells are the goat, Orion is more reliable than MF (i've only seen it down once or twice compared) and it eats capacity for breakfast. Also even tho Mille's soundtrack is a banger, Orion's soundtrack is more epic than a lot of movie scores.
I haven't been on Orion yet, so I can't say which one is better, but I know I don't care one little bit about MF's "theming" when I have that view at the top of the first hill. Just saying. 😁
Orion can't even cleanly beat its shorter, older brother in the same park, much less Millie. There is not another ride experience like Millie, in any park.
I like milli. Best coaster I ever rode and the last I ever rode. Orion looks fun but haven't been to a thrill park in years. Old people like more laid back recreational activities. Lol
Apparently I'm in the minority- but I definitely prefer Orion. The restraints are so much better, and I never actually greyed out on Millenium Force but did on all three rides of Orion (which is rare for me) on the "Orions Belt" portion. Both are awesome though!

I should've brought up dispatch times because that would've blown Millie out of the water lol
Tony Clark better not see this comment.
I'm just happy to live in Ohio.
You share my same thought on these almost to a T. I was "OK" after riding Orion once, but felt more anxious to give MT and Banshee more rides
Rode both for the first time this summer. I fell in love with Millie. I enjoyed Orion but it’s Millie for me. Fury is next on my list.
Neither ride is perfect, but they’re still elite in my opinion. Of the four gigas I’ve ridden, Orion ranks at 4, Millennium Force at 3, I305 at 2, and Fury 325 at 1.
Both are very close in my rankings, but Millie is slightly ahead thanks to its sense of speed and pure fun factor.
Mellenium for me🔥
Orion >>>
I love both but I prefer Orion over Millennium Force because I enjoy the layout of the track more.
Battle of the big blue bois
Millenium is definitely more exhilarating just because of the speed and pacing, orion was fun but b&m coasters never seem to have the same affect as intamin for some reason. Orion has almost as high of a top speed but it just doesn't feel as fun
Millennium Force is 20 years older than Orion. Welcome to the year 2000, King’s Island.
PS... Orion doesn't just have MORE airtime... It's got BETTER airtime.
I love melenium force
I haven't been on Orion yet, so I can't say which one is better, but I know I don't care one little bit about MF's "theming" when I have that view at the top of the first hill. Just saying. 😁
Orion because more air time.
Good video.
Thank you!
Orion can't even cleanly beat its shorter, older brother in the same park, much less Millie. There is not another ride experience like Millie, in any park.
Finally a review that isn't nostalgia based for millennium force
Millennium force is better by a lot.. faster, longer, so much more fun… Orion is short and plain.
Millennium Force obviously
Personally I feel millennium is the better ride.
I like milli. Best coaster I ever rode and the last I ever rode. Orion looks fun but haven't been to a thrill park in years. Old people like more laid back recreational activities. Lol
Pfffff. I'm an airtime junkie and I still like MF better than Orion. And I love Orion.
Give me either one for magic mountain lol
X2 is just as good as either
Apparently I'm in the minority- but I definitely prefer Orion. The restraints are so much better, and I never actually greyed out on Millenium Force but did on all three rides of Orion (which is rare for me) on the "Orions Belt" portion. Both are awesome though!
Orion > MF
Orion is way better.
I’ve been on both an millennium force is wayyy better
orion is a b&m hyper
Millenium force for sure Orion is the worst ride at Kings island it’s so hiring
when a thoosie realizes that millennium force isn’t the best coaster ever
@@yourmother3217 I’m not saying it’s the best just saying it’s miles better than orion
@@blainebasil6577 why? Orion is a literal giga
@@yourmother3217 I’m not saying Orion isn’t a giga I’m just saying millenium is better in my opinion
@@blainebasil6577 you are saying a *gigacoaster* by B&M is *boring* and the worst ride at KI. So the fucking kiddie coaster is worse than a smooth and forceful giga?
Millennium snores
Boring*
First
Millie is easily #6 (imo) in its own park this isnt even really a discussion
What 5 do you put above it? I’m sure I can guess four of them, but I’m also curious what the fifth one could be.
@@slytendencies2669
Vengeance
Maverick
Magnum
Raptor (i like inverts ik)
Top thrill
@@Coop-su4qb can’t argue with that list at all. Raptors a top tier invert so I can totally see someone enjoying its raw intensity over Millie’s speed. Great list btw.
@@slytendencies2669 i had 2 rides on millie this last year (row 2 and second from the back) and both had a bit of rattle to them. Not sure if that was localized to a specific train or not though. So overall i just felt kinda meh about it.
Millennium forceless
Millennium bored
Is this a trolling video??? The fact that you said Orion's music is More epic than millennium Force?🤣 That's the most ridiculous clean and amusement park videos I've ever heard!!!! how many golden tickets has Orion ever won ABSOLUTELY ZERO it's a joke to even compare these two rides there is no comparison and it's an absolute insult to say that the music is epic...you should have your channel taken away and never be allowed to ride a roller coaster again this channel is fantasy
when thoosie 🤓
Orion is better tho
What was there for Millennium Force to compete against? Orion would win mass golden tickets if it was built in 2000 with no Fury, SV to compete with.
Riddle me this, though. If a park like Six Flags Magic Mountain were to receive Orion, would ANYBODY complain? ANYONE AT ALL??
No? Good. There’s no wrong answer here; both are sensational rides. Anyone who hates on Millie because it “lacks forces” or Orion for being “too short” won’t be pleased by anything unless it’s an RMC strata.
@@starryagent9936 any one of those rides at Magic Mountain isn’t fair😂 talk about stacking the deck. Once people started complaining about SV I knew you can’t please an enthusiast.
