Thalys Train Coupling Fault

- Two Thalys trains in Belgium being joined for a journey from Brussels to Paris Nord. You can see the nose cowling being opened, although it refused for a while and then retracted with a bang.
The train manager gives the signal and then the new arrival drives into the stationary train. They seem to couple and sync straight away. No nonsence with pipes and cables. Very neatly done.
I used to be a tecnician on those trains. Those nose hatches are often replaced because of damage from birdstrikes or suicides. However after each replacement they need to be fine tuned. But some people just replace them and either don't fine tune them or do a bad job, resulting in the hatch rubbing against the front ring and getting stuck. Sometimes when the workload was low i would go and check random trains for this problem and fine tune them. The process is a bit tricky.
Is that a screwdriver and wrench operation, or is it software nowadays?

those are not locomotives, they are EMUs

@@phaenius So like locomotive is a separate carriage with no passengers, only the motors and driver but EMU has the motors integrated into all the carriages for space saving and the cab is on the front of the carriage and it has passengers too. 1:36 the headlamps of the unit on the right turned from red to green. Never noticed that before.
It looks more like they turned off as it’s no longer an end of the train and in the middle so doesn’t need lights. I think the remaining reflection is from the lights on the left train rather than the right.

@Mario bro, if the mechanism doesn't work, it doesn't mean the coupler is damaged. They could have left the coupler exposed (which would be an issue after some time.) Most of the air pressure comes in exactly at that spot, and these trains are at least 20 years old. It's not bad engineering (quite the opposite), it's just a malfunction. When you have trains operating at 320 km/h, minimal technical faults caused by the conditions around are bound to happen. It's like if a tree hit the train and you blamed the company who made the glass for the shattered window. Makes no sense

It’s a mechanical lock with a air and electrical supply.

@@felixbeutin8105 Achso eh ein deutscher, naja aber der tgv hier fährt ja nur langsam an und rollt direkt wieder. Ich meine ein ice 3/velaro macht vergleichsweise viel lärm, dass stimmt. Aber ein Stadler Kiss macht z.B. kaum lärm. Und dazu muss man auch sagen, dass die tgv's durch deren Antriebsweise die Radiatoren zur Kühlung von Anfang an voll anwerfen und somit alles einwenig damit übertönen.
新幹線みたいに自動で開閉しないんだね。あと扉が閉まってる時の蛇の舌みたいなやつにずっと疑問に思ってたけど、手動で解結する時のハンドルだったんだ、新幹線にもあるけど車両側に向けられて取り付けられてるから外からだと見えない。

Do that design again on the drawing board and do it right this time. And test, test again and test 100 times more. Until you (designer) KNOW it works, not believe or thinks it works. Patience, time and money yes. But so much better.
