- Whether it is leasers, historic or foreign catches, or just heavy freight trains ramming through the country-side, you'll find it here in this 25 minute-long feature of the NS Harrisburg Line! Included are summer sightings of both Canadian Pacific haulage rights trains and an assortment of Norfolk Southern trains totalling 15 individually unique sightings!
What a better way than to start off with classic-powered CP train in the sweet morning light? A rare catch for this nocturnal train.

Later that morning the interesting combination of power continued with automotive/intermodal train 212, note the rare and endangered SD50 in Conrail livery.

Hotshot intermodal train 21M speeds west on the opposite main as it is a few miles from passing empty autorack train 11J who stopped at PRESCOTT.

Roughly 5 minutes ahead of the CP train caught exactly one week prior, this one sneaks by with a leased "ghost" just after dawn. For the following days this train would return to the ghost in the night.

That afternoon torrential rains moved in and caused flash flooding. Brand new GE products battle through the pouring rains.

A heavy 20K had a failure in one of its units resulting in a helper set to remain ahead of the train east of Altoona. I'm surprised the train kept these on the front east of Harrisburg, it was about 7000 tons into Harrisburg, but just shy of 4000 tons after departure from the terminal.

With about 17,500 tons of train, these 8000 horses have quite a load on their shoulders. This loaded coal train throttles hard to keep the train rolling as it re-enters 50 MPH track. (Lebanon has 40 MPH head-end only in effect due to the crowded crossings and population around the tracks).

Shortly there-after, the train I was waiting for arrives, passing one of Pennsylvania's finest industries: feed manufacturing. Unfortunately, the sun dissipated behind the clouds, but not to worry, meets are always a nice treat!

Because ethanol comes from the Midwest, there are great chances of this train have a pumpkin or red or yellow nose engine on it. However, this one was a real treat, supporting a Santa Fe War Bonnet and a KCS, while led by the class unit of Norfolk Southern's newest GE products.

There is nothing special about this train this evening, but I like the location at this time of year where the sun rarely crosses to the north side of the tracks to illuminate the Browns Feed Mill.

Anthracite empties from the Pennsylvania Coal Region along the Reading and Northern system are returning to Reading to be interchanged with RBMN and will waste no time being loaded. This loaded train runs to the Midwest, and the coal is actually put on a ship near Sandusky, OH, because it is actually cheaper to be shipped to Minnesota that way!

Continuing the morning east bounds, 9500 ton 10N is overtaken by a hot intermodal train. 10N takes a stop at the DORF signal just east of (behind) my location while the 24Z crosses over in front of him, notice the conductor calling the LIMITED CLEAR signal after the train passes. 10N is stopped on a bit of a hump, and the slack in the train causes it to roll backwards a bit after stopping way short of the signal. I packed up and went over to DORF to get him on the move once he got the clear.

Excellent video, always enjoy the Harrisburg Line action! I live in Hershey so these are my home rails!
Beautifully filmed. A real treat!!
What a nice bite to go with the morning coffee. Thank you! :-) I started to think about airline tickets and accomodations just to be there myself.
WOW, that's all I can say to describe this 25 minutes of pure epicness. I would go into more detail and give testimonials as to what I liked about each train like usual, but there's wayyyyy too many gems in this video for one comment. I really like that new angle you've adopted at Newmanstown, that's a picture perfect eastbound shot, I'll definitely have to go there one morning should I get out your way soon. And ah HA! I knew there had to be a reason why I didn't see those GP40MC's all Summer!
Excellent video as always Eric, looks like you have had a successful summer of railfanning.
I have missed your videos. it is another good one! I love the variety that was shot.
Nice video. Excellent quality and great variety. Thumbs up!
Bravo. Thanks for your time and (fine) efforts.
I just love your 25 min. Videos if you had a DVD Id buy it thanks for sharing
Great video as always, great to see a Conrail Blue still running around. Haven't seen one in Mid-Ohio for the last couple months and it bums me out. But again, great video - keep em coming!
Very nice video! Neat catches, and I like that CR SD50.
Very nice Eric!
@AliceInChains243
Thanks. This was just a fraction of the epicness I encountered over the summer, so I hope to have more up soon. And It's nice to see you back! I've been trying to catch as much as I can up here in Vermont, but of course, I don't get off campus much because I don't have a ride, so it's basically limited to walking distance. Aside from the goodness in VT, I hope to get back on the D&H soon!
Yes that was the case. Private Lanes don't require horn because they are not registered as roads.
Spectacular video, as usual.
Wow great film!!
your videos are very enjoyable.
@Cipher160
There are only a handful of trains handled between Enola and York, the H95 takes care of the freight and I think the coal train ID's are in the Five Hundred and Teens. Reading and Northern does not run any coal to or through York, they are all NS hoppers.
This was the golden days of railfanning
@o00o00ozy If this was only a fraction than I can't wait to see rest! I've been having a pretty epic week here myself, it's too bad the RBB&B Blue Unit is leaving to go west at an un-Godly hour of the morning for me to go out anywhere to get it, otherwise I'd have a REALLY good week going here. I can't wait to check out the rest of your VT stuff as well as that D&H one I scrolled across. My wifi here is just awful, so it may take me a bit to load them, but I'm sure they'll all be worth the wait!
That is N Ash Road in Newmanstown, PA. Look it up on Google Maps you should be able to find it without any trouble.
Conrail is not extinct. I have several mixed freight videos, featuring a few NYC era hoppers with that logo AND Conrail on it!
Nice Job!!
great video.
Nice video
Great action. From what mines are the coal coming from?Nice surprise to see the MBTA units
1:27...LOVE IT
thanh you
Nice
Agreed
Woah, BNSF was unexpected
Is it possible that 573 passed through York on it's way back to Reading because I saw a empty coal consist about that size sitting at the small NS yard that passes under I-83. It looked like an SD70 and a D9-40C was with them but I'm not entirely sure.
I wish this was what railfanning was like in 2022. Sad to see all of this good stuff be put onto the sidelines and retirement lines and replaced with GEVO locomotives.
@o00o00ozy how do you get to the crossing at the very beginning of the video?
