I never get tired of watching your videos, such good fun and often with nice surprises . I would be back there in a heartbeat for those garnets, I might even move into that little cave, with a lean too and some clearing out it could be quite cosy, I've had to sleep in worse places before now. Take a squirting bottle with you then you will know if it's worth taking.
I would like to crawl into that cave to see what goodies might be there. Or light it up with a UV light to see what colours are there. I never thought about using it as a camping spot. If it were not so close to a highway, I will consider it. LOL
What you need is a tiny little strong fellow to get into those tight fitting spots , I know just the fellow . Lol. Great video and that Garnet at the end of your video was a beauty.

But I have a deep respect and fear of bears , I'll explain it one day .

Here is my short story about Denver. Years ago, I flew to Denver to go skiing for two weeks at Aspen, Snowmass and Vail. It was wonderful, but towards the end, decided to take a day off because I was physically tired. I ended up driving to Leadville where the stores sold prospecting books and equipment. I filled a suitcase with everything that looked interesting. That was what got me hooked.
Holy cow i never seen a garnet that big before no joking . I would like to see it taken out and shaped or what ever they do to them. I'm going back for another look.👍
Outstanding. I was standing near a stone outcropping on a mountain in VA last week, and I was wondering “what would MeMiner do with this site”? Probably a lot more than I did. 🤣
@@meMiner I was happy to be outside. Temperature was up in the mid 40’s F so I figured why not meander up this road and see what I can find. Found a few pieces of quartz, mostly broken with rice sized crystals here and there. I’ll go back and check again when I have more time, and it warms up again.
@@virginiarocks I am jealous of your weather . Dropping to -20 C tonight here. I took Daisy for a walk earlier and she was happy to get back to the truck. If your quartz has crystals, then it sounds like a great place to look at. Where there are little ones, sometimes there are big ones. Hope you find a nice vug.
@@meMiner I’m going to give it a try! The weather was about 25 today with windchill in the teens, 20s or teens at night. This probably will go back to 30s/20s then 40s/30s soon enough. Hoping I can tap the maple trees this year - our tapping time is usually pretty short, depends on the year. 2020 would actually have been a good year for it. I know it is a lot colder up there, I’m just not a weather resistant as I once was. I need practice. 😇
I know the spot. Those 2 you got are the largest I've seen. I haven't heard of any facet material from there yet. People have hit that place for over 40 years. I love garnet in most forms so I'll be back.

Hi. Please look at the larger picture of the rocks in the last place you were in... I have spent every waking moment of the last year looking at general rocks my kids have brought me. They are all beautiful and observation shows that they are fossils. Please look again at the long skinny ones you had rejected. They seemed to me to be alligators or crocodiles. I love gems and fossils. I have found fossil rocks filled with crystals. I am torn - respect the fossils or love the gems! Thanks, and happy hunting!
I don't think so for this spot, but you never know until you test. Historically, there was small amounts of gold further west of this spot in quartz. I found a road cut there with some really small VG and it was later confirmed that gold was found there (I talked to a lady who owned the property behind it) and when tested it was not considered to be economic quantity.
So far,, the only road that I have seen posted is HWY 7 east of Peterborough. I have no idea why they decided to do this, but understand that it is strictly enforced by the police patrols. They seemed to use the rock collecting book by Ann Sabina to decide where to place their signs, making it clear that collecting at that site is verboten.

I am pretty lax about snakes here. I have not seen a wild rattlesnake for years. The other kinds might bite if threatened, but they have no poison. Normally, I see the movement as they try to get away. Rattlesnakes will warn you. Still, I don't like water snakes when I am swimming. They can be very large and there is something about snakes in water (especially dark or silted water) that gives me the creeps.
in Australia we have all sorts of snakes, where I live we have taipans.... deadly, and death adders just as deadly.... death adders like to pretend they are leaves or sticks until you grab them. and a taipan bite will kill you in as little as 30 minutes.

I have collected crystals in sedimentary rock that contained fossil corral. A great place to look for such minerals as galena and fluorite.

I notice you don't seem overly concerned about snakes.... I sure as .... couldnt collect rocks as easily as you do..... way too many snakes

We have copperhead and western diamond back. I throw rocks in likely snake places and listen for rattling or hissing or movement.
