I'm a relatively small guitar RUclipsr, and I get these emails all the time. The first time I saw an executable file in an email, that was it for me. I backed out. I dump these emails in the trash nearly every day. As Carl says, be careful out there. Don't get sucked in with big name sponsor offers if you're a little guy. That's the thing that hooks you in.

Carl I've been subbed for years and didn't even know this happened until this video today. Sooo sorry for the stress this caused you. As an old timer on the interwebs having had my own website hacked over 20 years ago I know the feeling of helplessness. And like you, another channel I sub to, Dave's World of Fun Stuff (Canadian guitar luthier) had his account hacked a while ago even with 2 factor authentication and it took him a while to get things back in order. I think if there's any silver lining to this it's that all the other teachers I sub to came out to help you asap. Marty is the boss! And also this pointed me to other teachers I wasn't aware of. Initially receiving a random livestream notification that I didn't recognise was really confusing at first, but as soon as I realised it was your channel it was really saddening because of how hard you have worked towards it. It was really cool to see everyone come together to help you though like Mike from Art of Guitar. Youre such a great teacher, Carl and I have learnt so many songs thanks to you (I consider your Van Halen tutorials in particular to be THE definitive videos on RUclips).

Carl, glad you’re back! Love your lessons. One thing I’d like to say is that, anytime someone sends you a link, especially one that downloads an executable file to your computer, be extra cautious. There is such a high potential for malware. You’re right that the email headers would have tipped you off to a problem initially, but that executable file your brother downloaded and ran was the actual bomb that did so much damage. Be careful out there!

I was really bummed when I found out your account got hacked. I play in two different cover bands and your channel was my main go-to for learning songs. For years I've learned a lot by ear playing and rewinding cassettes to just listening to songs on the internet or trying to study other guitar player's hand positioning on the fret board. You're pretty much the only RUclips guitar teacher that teaches songs the best and most accurate way I want to learn them and I really appreciate that. Initially receiving a random livestream notification that I didn't recognise was really confusing at first, but as soon as I realised it was your channel it was really saddening because of how hard you have worked towards it. It was really cool to see everyone come together to help you though like Mike from Art of Guitar. Youre such a great teacher, Carl and I have learnt so many songs thanks to you (I consider your Van Halen tutorials in particular to be THE definitive videos on RUclips).
I'm happy that you got your channel back. Also, when you got hacked and realized your videos were gone, it was like I lost my guitar teacher (wich u are) and I took your content for granted. I just want to tell you how much you helped me since I started playing guitar! Thank you Carl
Just before I heard about the hack from Marty Schartz on Twitter, I thought you had shut down your channels, Carl. I was massively disappointed at that point since I've relied on you for so much guitar-related information. I just got back into playing my electric and needed some guidance, and you were there for me. So, it's my time to say thank you! I'm so glad you're back.

I hate this happened to ya Carl. Our small business website was hacked a few years ago an taken over by an overseas casino crap or something. Tools months to straighten out. Glad you’re back up an going! Great guitar lessons

Carl, glad you’re back! Love your lessons. One thing I’d like to say is that, anytime someone sends you a link, especially one that downloads an executable file to your computer, be extra cautious. There is such a high potential for malware. You’re right that the email headers would have tipped you off to a problem initially, but that executable file your brother downloaded and ran was the actual bomb that did so much damage. Be careful out there!

The day you were hacked, I was looking for "Still of the night" you did 10 years ago and everything was gone! All is saw was Musk's' face! I saw that you got hacked and got a hold of O'Keefe and then we put a blast on Twitter. So thankful you got all your vids back!

Hey man, I was struggling going anywhere with my guitar playing until I found your videos, you kinda opened up how easy some songs were to play for me. Wouldn’t be able to play at even the intermediate level I am now if it wasn’t for your vids and I couldn’t imagine what would happen if they were all deleted forever

I heard that there was some kind of disruption from Mike from his channel the art of guitar but didn't know what was going on or what had happened. I am so thankful that so many came together to help you get your channel back up and running and to retrieve all the hard work that you've put in over the years back under your control!
I yesterday searched for a song tutorial(good riddance) and I knew that you have made a video on it but when I searched for it didn't appear. After that I knew something was wrong. I have been working with your Pink Floyd Time Solo video to learn that solo and I really love it. I was out of town last week and came back on Monday and low and behold I couldnt find it via youtube and was wondering why. Now I know.

So glad you're back up! I love every guitar lesson channel, but you have always taught me the most with your in-depth lessons and camera angles to see exactly what I'm supposed to be doing. I have no idea why someone would want to hack a channel that only brings good and positive energy to RUclips. Make sure your password is secure, that's all I can say 😂😂
I was really bummed when I found out your account got hacked. I play in two different cover bands and your channel was my main go-to for learning songs. For years I've learned a lot by ear playing and rewinding cassettes to just listening to songs on the internet or trying to study other guitar player's hand positioning on the fret board. You're pretty much the only RUclips guitar teacher that teaches songs the best and most accurate way I want to learn them and I really appreciate that. I'm really glad that you're getting back on track and reviving your channel again. I look forward to continuing being a subscriber and excited to see more great content!
