  • For NASA’s Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART), the DART spacecraft impacted asteroid Dimorphos, from the binary asteroid system Didymos, on 26 September 2022, at 23:14 UTC (19:14 EDT). The binary asteroid system Didymos is NOT a threat to Earth, making it a perfect testing ground to see if intentionally crashing a spacecraft into an asteroid is an effective way to change its course.

They stated it will take weeks/months to trully understand just some of the results of the impact. Also In a collaborating project, the European Space Agency is developing Hera, a spacecraft that will be launched to Didymos in 2024 and arrive in 2027 (5 years after DART's impact), to do a detailed reconnaissance and assessment.

@@constantinethecataphract5949 they do lots of math before something like this they dont fly over there to hit an asteroid and just see what happens after. Also space is sooooo big the chances that it will hit earth are soooo small you cant even imagine it. And also if it was coming close to earths gravitational field jupiters gravity would probably get rid of the asteroid before it could even come close.
