Hi Jennifer, I do see that Epson L805 is an inkjet printer. As long as this printer has pigment based ink in the lines and not dye based, it will work well with inkjet heat transfer paper.
Hey there, you can use the Sawgrass SG400 or SG800 to print on both sublimation paper and Siser's EasySubli heat transfer vinyl. FOREVER also created a line of sublimation transfer papers that function similar to a heat transfer paper but work with a sublimation printer.
thank you. this helps me decide. i was about to buy sublimation ink then just realized it has limited fabrics to use unlike inkjet as i want to use it on fabrics only. and i can use the printer to print docs and cute stickers. although you can use the sublimation ink to do the same it has diff result. right?
Great question! While Sublimation cannot transfer to 100% cotton, there are now several different options for users if they do not want to work with 100% polyester. We would highly recommend the Sawgrass systems, and would either recommend Forever Subli- Light with the Forever Edition profile in the Sawgrass Print Manager, or Siser's EasySubli vinyl - with the user of Siser EasySubli ink, or SubliJet HD ink and the Siser edition in the Sawgrass Print Manager. Thank you!
Hello! If you are working with an inkjet printer, and inkjet heat transfer paper, then yes. if you are working with laser and a laser heat transfer paper that is self weeding, then no you would not have to cut out individually.
I really wanted to go with sublimation because you stated that its in there for life rather than the inkjet where you can feel it and it could crack after a couple washes. Thank you
Hi! With dark clothing you will want to go with inkjet/laser transfer paper or a printable vinyl. Sublimation works best on light or white colors with a high percentage of polyester. Please let us know if we can assist further. Thanks!
My head is spinning lol I just got a pretty large order for shirts, but wasn't sure if I should do vinyl as I usually, or sublimate. I still don't know 😂
If you are doing T-shirts and they're cotton, do vinyl. If they're polyester and you need full-color images, sublimation is better. Sublimation only works on polyester, so that's something to bear in mind.
Cindy, in this video we went over a few options - heat transfer and Sublimation. For Inkjet, any inkjet printer will do - just make sure that you use Pigment based ink. For Laser, we recommend the Crio8432WT, and OKI C711WT. Sublimation, for small format, we recommend the Sawgrass SG500 and SG1000. Heat transfer paper for inkjet was mentioned at the beginning, you can find our options here: www.coastalbusiness.com/sublimation-specialty-and-heat-transfer-paper/heat-transfer-paper/inkjet-transfer-paper.html
@@CoastalBusinessSup Thank you for the information, how do we know if the printer uses pigment based ink?? I'm super new to this and would love to learn more.
Hello! For ink type, we would recommend checking the cartridge in the printer, or the box they came in. Normally the ink will either be dye based, or pigment. Again, for transfers, you want pigment.
can i ask, what kind or brand of sublimation paper i can use for dark fabrics? i keep looking for sublimation paper for darks shirts but i cannot find it. hope you can recommend me affordable one. thanks!
Hello! For Dark's, and Sublimation, you can use the Siser Easy Subli HTV. This is a vinyl that will adhere to the top of the garment. It can be used with lights, and darks, as well as cotton, polyester, and blends.
Bunny, Sublimation is truly meant for 100% white polyester garments, or hard substrates. This will give the most vibrant color output. However, you can do light shades of color - the transfer will just take on the color of the garment. You can also do fabric blends, for a faded, vintage look. The lowest we recommend is 60% polyester, and 40% cotton.
Things are much better here in egypt I think Sublimation printing is way cheaper than any other method I get a hundred paper that have polyester coating for working with cottons for like 5 bucks And 4 bottels of high quality ink each is 150ml for around 25 bucks And I get rich color sublimation on 50/50 blends

I want to start making some shirts for friends. I was looking into getting an ink jet printer but I see some benefit of self weeding paper for laser printers! I currently have a laser printer. I was wondering if you noticed any difference with colour between ink jet and laser printers? Thanks!
Hi Farrah, there are some notable differences between inkjet and laser printers as far as color goes. Inkjet is going to generally be better for photo-quality reproduction whereas laser - unless you have a white toner laser printer - is best for printing vector-based images. Something to also note is not every laser printer works with heat transfer paper, and we generally avoid HP and Brother laser printers. If you do end up going with an inkjet printer, we highly recommend Epson - with a pigment-based ink. Inkjet printers with a dye-based ink is not ideal as the ink washes out.
Coastal Business Supplies Thank you so much for this insight! I have an HP laser printer so It looks like I will be getting an ink jet! I will defiantly look into getting an Epson! Thank you!!!

@@CoastalBusinessSup Hi, I wanna ask about Epson Inkjet L120 printer. Can I use pigment ink to print out the design on transfer paper using this particular printer? Thank you so much :)
If anybody knows of any companies that will heat press sublimation onto any fabric you choose/send them for you, that'd be great. I'm just looking to do one project that's about the size of half my body, so I can't exactly justify the purchase of a 4 square foot heat press.
hmm, well now, isn't there special papers used for sublimation, that can be printed with sublimation printers for both dark and light fabrics, and even on cottons?
Hello! Yes, there are a few options where you can use Sublimation ink and either a paper, or a vinyl to transfer to the garment. However, this is a transfer that will sit on top of the garment, so it does differ from true Sublimation - where the inks dye into the fabric fibers.
Do you need two types of transfer paper like an inkjet printer does when it comes to light or dark shirts? Like for example if I wanted to use a graphic that doesn’t need weeding and it was for a dark t shirt would I then need to get transfer paper that’s specially for dark shirts like a inkjet printer does?
Coastal Business Supplies thank you so much! I have another question. So is there a specific toner or ink that I need for my laser printer for this process of making t shirt designs?
Hello! No, your standard printer toner will work. With most of our heat transfer papers, if you are working with a CMYK printer, you will need to use bold colors in your design.
Hello! Sublimation, and heat transfer are separate systems, and also different ink. For heat transfer paper, you also have the option of toner for laser, or pigment based ink for inkjet.
I know you named a particular laser printer, but I couldn't catch the name. Could you tell me what brand of laser printers and what brand of sublimation printers you recommend? Thanks.
Hey there! The brand of laser printers we recommend are the OKI white toner printers. As far as sublimation printers, Sawgrass makes great desktop printers such as the Virtuoso SG400 and SG800. These are generally our go-to printers.
Sublimation is ideal for white or light-colored shirts. This is because you are dyeing the fabric, and it takes on whatever the background color is. Sublimation won't show up on black or dark-colored shirts.
Hi there, while you can print on sublimation paper using regular ink, it won't transfer over to a garment or product. You need sublimation ink to work. The magic is in the ink, not the paper.
For laser heat transfers, we recommend the OKI white toner printers such as the C711WT and the Pro8432WT. For inkjet heat transfers, we recommend Epson printers with pigment-based ink such as the Epson WF-7720.
Hi Cavin, we are not familiar with that particular model. After looking up the printer on Epson's website, it appears to be dye based. I also did a general search for pigment based ink, and it appears that you can purchase pigment based for this model.
@@CoastalBusinessSup okay and you wont need to change anything on the printer cause i know it uses dye based ink and also pigment so i jus wanted to know if i buy pigment based ink for it if it would work or ill have to change something on the printer before it work.
Pedro, we would only recommend Sublimation paper, with a Sublimation specific printer. Transfer paper, in most cases, has a thicker weight and could cause feeding issues, as well as smearing of ink.
@@CoastalBusinessSup Thank you so much for your reply. I have a sublimation printer which I converted from an epson ecotank inkjet printer, and currently we do not have sublimation papers in my country at any store. I only managed to find heat tranfer paper for light and dark garments, so I really needed to know if it's still safe to use sublimation ink or rather buy another inkjet printer and use it for heat transfer paper.
GoodEveving my big big problem at the moment is that my team logos on there jerseys all are faded i use the (3g opaque heat transfer paper inkjet) my pressing time 350° /30s i uses the (hp 2375 printer inkjet ) i would really appreciate you helping me with this problem.
Hello! Correct, to receive the most vibrant transfer it is best to transfer to 100% white polyester fabrics. Lighter shades work as well, but, the color shade of the shirt will take on some of the transferred image.
Coastal Business Supplies will any inkjet printer work ? Or could you point me in the right direction for a inkjet printer just looking to be decent don’t need the top of the line would the epson XP-4100 work ?
Most inkjet printers will work for inkjet heat transfers. It is highly recommended to use pigment based ink for your inkjet model. We have worked with the Epson C88, Epson 1430, and Epson WF7710.
Great question! For Darks/Cotton, you will not be able to transfer with Sublimation. If you work with a lighter color shade, and a 60% Polyester/40% Cotton (The lowest blend we recommend) it would be possible to transfer with Sublimation. The outcome would be a faded appearance, as the print/ink will only transfer into the polyester portion of the garment.
Hi, thank you for your very informative video. Can you tell me about the durability of laser transfer on mugs compared to sublimation and is laser dish washer friendly? I already have a good A4 colour laser printer that I can use, but if I need to buy an inkjet and convert it to sublimation, then I'm prepared to do so. One thing about laser is that photos are not as good quality as on an inkjet, so I assume sublimation is better for photos as it's from an inkjet?
Hi there, you're correct that sublimation is going to be better for both durability and for photos. Sublimation ink binds to the coating on the mugs, so it's incredibly durable. Laser transfers, however, are generally dishwasher-friendly, but you'll want to verify with whichever laser transfer paper you're using. Laser transfers are going to be good for vector graphics whereas sublimation will be better for transferring high definition photos.
Hi Gordon, thanks for your question. There are some printers that are made exclusively for dye-sublimation such as the Sawgrass SG400 and SG800 as well as the Epson F570. There are other printers, like the Epson C88, which are standard inkjet printers that you can convert to sublimation printers (but they are not sublimation printers by default). If you buy a new Epson C88 or another similar Epson inkjet printer, you can put dye-sublimation ink in it instead to convert it.
Maheer, pigment based ink is for an inkjet printer, to run heat transfer paper. Pigment based ink allows the ink to settle more into the formula of the paper, so when you wash the garment, the ink will not bleed out.
For Sublimation, it is best to use a Sublimation paper that is recommended for the process. This process is meant for 100% Polyester, and best onto White, or Light Colored garments. Material that can be ran through a Sublimation printer model is as follows; Standard sublimation paper, copy paper, EasySubli vinyl, and Forever Sublimation papers.

Hello! No, your standard printer toner will work. With most of our heat transfer papers, if you are working with a CMYK printer, you will need to use bold colors in your design.
can both sublimation and heat transfer be done using same printer?
is just changing paper be enough?
is there any separate ink requirement?
Hello! Sublimation, and heat transfer are separate systems, and also different ink. For heat transfer paper, you also have the option of toner for laser, or pigment based ink for inkjet.
If i have hp office jet 4650 i use inkjet transfer paper AND pigment ink? Or can I use regular ink? That comes with it
Thanks for checking in! It would be pigment ink. Check out one of our blogs on ink: www.coastalbusiness.com/blog/ink-101-what-are-ink-types.html
Good video thanks
What’s the best affordable printer for sublimation?
The Sawgrass machines are made specifically for sublimation and produce great quality!
Hi! Can I use sublimation printer with dark/ light heat transfer paper?
Hi Gisell, you would not be able to as the ink will not transfer to your design, especially if you have a cotton garment.
@@CoastalBusinessSup Thanks.
how about the garment color in sublimation? does only work with white shirt??
Sublimation is ideal for white or light-colored shirts. This is because you are dyeing the fabric, and it takes on whatever the background color is. Sublimation won't show up on black or dark-colored shirts.
Coastal Business Supplies thank u so much for replying back! so u suggest transfer for dark garments got it 💕
I have a really important question. Can I print printable HTV using the subliminal ink?
You can only do this on the Siser EasySubli heat transfer vinyl currently. Most printable heat transfer vinyl is designed for solvent/latex inks.
Very informative video. thank you
Thanks! Glad it was helpful!
What printer(s) would you recommend that uses pigment ink
Good question, Epson would be a good choice.
@@CoastalBusinessSup the pigment ink will eventually fade from a shirt after so many washes?
Great question. Yes, eventually the transfer will fade from the shirt. Thank you!
can you print on sub paper using regular ink
Hi there, while you can print on sublimation paper using regular ink, it won't transfer over to a garment or product. You need sublimation ink to work. The magic is in the ink, not the paper.
Can you do mugs with inkjet?
Great video thank you.!
Glad it helped
Good video but my question is can I use my sublimation paper with ink jet ink
Hey there, you cannot. You need sublimate ink for sublimation to work. Or you can use heat transfer paper with inkjet ink.
@@CoastalBusinessSup is it okay if i use sublimate ink on heat transfer paper?
What printers are you using for each?
For laser heat transfers, we recommend the OKI white toner printers such as the C711WT and the Pro8432WT. For inkjet heat transfers, we recommend Epson printers with pigment-based ink such as the Epson WF-7720.
Hi do u guys know about the epson L120 if you does it work with both pigment ink and dye based ink or just pigment alone.
Cavin, you will not need to change any settings within the printer. Make sure you use the printer as strictly pigment when installing the ink.
@@CoastalBusinessSup okay it comes to work with either but once start with a specific ink you continue to use such.
Yes, ink will not come in the printer, just in the package, so make sure that you purchase pigment based ink and install that only.
Can you use heat transfer paper on a sublimation machine or strictly sublimation paper?
Pedro, Sublimation ink will smear or wash off. We would highly recommend a separate system with pigment based ink.
@@CoastalBusinessSup Thank you so much, I highly appreciate the info.
You're welcome!
Thanks for making this video.
We hope it was helpful!!
GoodEveving my big big problem at the moment is that my team logos on there jerseys all are faded i use the (3g opaque heat transfer paper inkjet) my pressing time 350° /30s i uses the (hp 2375 printer inkjet ) i would really appreciate you helping me with this problem.
Hi! If you are using a dye based it, you will experience some fading with washes. We suggest a Pigment based ink for best results.
@@CoastalBusinessSup okay I understand so if i buy a printer that the black ink is pigment and the other inks are dye based will it work?
Cavin, no, you will want all CMYK, or all ink within the printer, to be pigment based for best results.
@@CoastalBusinessSup okay thank you

Thanks for the info...👍

So sublimation you can not do on dark and light colors only lighter shirts?
Coastal Business Supplies thank you for the comments back have a great week
You're welcome! We are more than happy to assist. Have a wonderful rest of the week.
Can we do sublimation printing on dark colour 100% Cotton or blend cotton ?
@@CoastalBusinessSup thank you.
What kind of printers are dye sublimation printers? Epson c88? Or any epson? Printer?
Hi Gordon, thanks for your question. There are some printers that are made exclusively for dye-sublimation such as the Sawgrass SG400 and SG800 as well as the Epson F570.
There are other printers, like the Epson C88, which are standard inkjet printers that you can convert to sublimation printers (but they are not sublimation printers by default). If you buy a new Epson C88 or another similar Epson inkjet printer, you can put dye-sublimation ink in it instead to convert it.
I have the epson 7710 and it works great
Thank you boo 😘
More explanation to the pigment based ink
Maheer, pigment based ink is for an inkjet printer, to run heat transfer paper. Pigment based ink allows the ink to settle more into the formula of the paper, so when you wash the garment, the ink will not bleed out.
Thanks
can you sublimation print on paper? i would like to print it on 100% cotton paper and cardboard ish papers.
also, regular paper and thick crafting paper
For Sublimation, it is best to use a Sublimation paper that is recommended for the process. This process is meant for 100% Polyester, and best onto White, or Light Colored garments. Material that can be ran through a Sublimation printer model is as follows; Standard sublimation paper, copy paper, EasySubli vinyl, and Forever Sublimation papers.
