John Williams played 'Home Alone's music score on piano for ET, following his Oscar nomination for composing the 1990 holiday classic's sountrack and its title song, 'Somewhere in My Memory.' In this rare interview, Williams shares the backstory of how he signed on just two months before the movie it theaters, where it later grossed nearly $500 million at the box office. The legendary composer also explained why he was excited for the opportunity to write Christmas music, as opposed to his iconic adventure-themed scores for 'E.T.' and the 'Indiana Jones' franchise.

He is inspiring. He was doing this score in his 60s! In the 80s he was moving towards 50 and killing the soundtrack scene on just about all the films. His hard work just paid off!❤

Spielberg once said the John Williams was responsible for half the success of Jaws. You can apply that to practically every film he's ever scored, including Spielberg films. I would say about 70% of Home Alone.

Kudos to Fox for bringing Williams in. They knew the film was testing sky high and wanted to elevate it even further by having Williams score it. He's not going to say it but they moved Bruce Broughton off the movie (his name was on the original trailers) and the rest is history.
